I don't get it, it's just a font.

I think comic sans is the font equivalent of someone's mum using the word "rad" to sound cool or hip

I don't even know what comic sans is.

Edit: Oh, that thing. I don't know. It doesn't look serious or something, maybe?

Comic Sans comes across as casual and unprofessional, which is why some people like it and why others hate it.

It's the font equivavelence of using all the available colours on a webpage. Often used by amateurs who don't know why they choose a specific font.
Comic sans is ok when used sparingly in logos or headlines. But it's hard to read in general. This goes for most sans-serif fonts actually but they are unfortunately getting popular around the web. It's one reason why this forum is hard to read when people make long posts.

I must be missing something, it's just a font. What's so bad about it?

Comic Sans was designed to be a kid-friendly font for the youngsters just starting out learning computers. The font's creator didn't think the standard Times New Roman font was a "good font for kids", so he came up with Comic Sans.

It was designed for children, and yet it's popping up everywhere, for everything. People don't realize that it makes their important bulletins or reports look like quirky fun times.

It's just a font.

Granted, it's not one I would use - but I use Courier pretty much exclusively when composing something.

I use Times New Roman or Calibri when writing reports and stuff.

My favorite is Batang.

I've got nothing against it, allthough i must admit I do hardly ever use it. I prefer Century Gothic

Anyway, I've noticed the hate too (on tumblr mostly), haven't figured out yet myself where it's coming from

I made it before and the mods locked it because nobody actually answered my question.

Over exposure. Comic Sans is to fonts what Justin Bieber is to music.

I wish there was a font system in which you could specify more variations of the same character and that it was easy to select. That could help fonts like Comic Sans to give it more of a natural look. It wouldn't help Justin Bieber, though.

:wizard:

and someone said it's a font for kids. true. anyone in the graphic design industry cringes at the sight of Comic Sans. It's all about context, though. You want to be taken seriously? Don't use Comic Sans.

If someone asked me to design some stuff for a brand that is targeted at kids, I still wouldn't use it.

I don't hate it, I just think it's been overused and abused. Poor typeface :(

Papyrus is the new Comic Sans.

Tangentally, I'm a fan of Garamond 3.

I'm aware of Comic Sans, but never use it. I prefer Vivaldi, Edwardian, and all the Hoity-Toity fonts in that cursive style of the written(or in this case, typed) word.

Edit: Regarding the previous thread, the link is here.

Evidence: If Comic Sans were a person, he'd be that internet tough guy who thinks saying 'I banged the prom queen behind the woodshop' makes him look awesome instead of a toolbag that no self-respecting woman would be friends with.
