This month's challenge is "Arabian Nights":

Genies, magic carpets, etc; This is an idea inspired by the nice tileset made by Zwerkules in the Oriental challenge.

Creatures:genies, CEP included all kind of genies in D&D but in my opinion most of them don't look very nice; Also any other creature from AD&D "Al-Qadim" campaign would be nice...

Tilesets: We have some Arabian cities like Zwerkules' city; But there is other nice Arabian backgrounds, for example Arabian interiors, with lots of decoration. Also additions for existing tilesets could be nice, for example some Arabian cities tilesets included ships, but i think that any of them had included a truly Arabian ship like the medieval arb-ship "dhow" with the typical triangular sails...

Arabian style heads also would be nice, we don't have too much of this...

And as usually: Arabian armors, clothes, weapons, placeables, and any other stuff....

This theme was suggested by Shemsu-Heru.

Guidelines:
  • It must be fully working in game.
  • Use of vanilla NWN or publicly available texture is fine, though state-of-the-art amateur's work would require 100% original work, but that's up to you.
  • Teamwork is welcome.
  • Beginners most welcome, don't be afraid, just try, you'll be surprised!
  • All submissions must be finished, working, and emailed to NWNCCCMakers@gmail.com (or a non-Vault link provided) by October 1st, 2012 at 10 AM EST. Sooner than that is perfectly fine too. ;-)

Somethings you could include in the download/email that would make packaging everything up easier and faster:
  • 2da lines needed.
  • Screenshot *from in game* for use on the vault page (this also gives me hints on how to display the new goodie).
  • Portraits (if needed) of your new goodie. ** Placeables and monsters should include a portrait. **
  • Inventory icons (if needed) of your new goodie.
  • Any credits you would like listed.
  • If this is your first entry, please tell me what name you would like your work listed under and provide a link to your other NWN content if you want that displayed as well (the link bit is totally optional).
  • Also if you would like an invite to the CC Makers group, send Rolo Kipp a friend invite. The group is nothing spectacular, mostly just documentation on 2da lines.
  • If you are doing tileset content, *please* let me know ahead of time so I can get you the set and itp files to work with. I’m horrible at merging those so this bit you will need to provide.
Remember, the Challenge is all about fun, sharing, creativity and surprise!

If you have concerns/questions about this month’s Challenge please post in this thread.

If you want to discuss the Monthly Custom Content Challenge idea as a whole or wish to submit ideas/themes for future monthly Challenges, please post in its thread here
***When submitting a new theme, please provide a title and short summary of the theme.***

If you have a technical question about some custom content creation, please create a separate thread so that the answers can be found later by anyone, not just people interested in this Challenge. We'll try to help!

Have no fear and join the fun!

And finally, you can:

Submit theme suggestions.
[*]Vote for October's CCC theme.

Related to this month's theme, the scimitars in my Project Reforged will be hitting the Vault in 3-4 weeks (as part of the "heavy blades" group).

I think I may contribute my jambiya (dagger) for this month. It's made already, but has not been publicly released.

Someone good with clothing parts might consider doing a sheathed jambiya on a belt, which could help sell the look for Arabian style PCs/NPCs.

And yes, I know there are other spellings for the jambiya. I just picked one and went with it.

Ideas for tilesets:

Bronze buildings; In some tales of the original Arabian nights had appeared bronze structures, this usually are magical places and the home of dijins; Also in the D&D it's thought that efrits live in a bronze city in the elemental plane of fire.

Arabian interior tilset with lots of decoration: Pictures of the Alhambra of Granada and the Mosque of Cordoba,

Water is very important in Islamic culture, fonts and pools are very common in their architecture...

Additions for existing Arabian city tilesets, like Arabian Ships:
Posted Image
Posted Image

There is an old HAK "Caravels" by Some Ux which ships could work well for Arabian ships especially with a little retexture or some additions.

And a last words about tilesets, an Arabian adventure, don't have to take place necessarily in the desert, jungle, shabana or mediterranean coast are also suitable backgrounds...

Ideas for creatures:

Automatons; They are not uncommon in the original tales of the Arabian nights, usually in humanoid shape and builded in bronze with painted runes. Also a cooper humanoid atomatom is one of the monsters in the AD&D "Al-Qadim" campaign...

Posted Image

Lycanthropes; Werelion, were-crocodile, were-jackal or were-hyena could be suitable creatures for this topic...

Zhankaran Roc:

Mouts: white camels, a war elephant with pieces of armor, zebra, ostrich, etc....

To help keep the CCC thread from being overly cluttered with reference art I would encourage (and possibly beg) that if you have more than one or two reference images for the challenge, stick 'em here instead of here in this thread.

@AD - I can't wait to see the scimitars.  Did you do the jambiya as a the blade on a regular 3-part dagger and does it use the existing base item for daggers or is it in a new base item type?

@Shemsu-Heru - Very nice helmets!

My jambiya is a standard dagger, and is made up of 3 matching parts in different colors. Blade, guard+pommel, and grip.

Shemsu-Heru and TAD, you are creating things of beauty; thank you!

This is a rich topic. I hope many will contribute. Indeed, _six, I would love to see your take on some armor.

@ad those are nice daggers. Could I suggest you consider adding a Kriss (wavy bladed dagger) as I think it is also arabian in origin and you seem to be ahead of the game already (^_^).

I wanted to make a malaysian keris (kriss) for a previous challenge. I already have some textures, but didn't get to make the weapon yet.

Yes, I'm working on a building terrain and if I got the time I'll also add a palace and palace-like buildings.

Any chance for a classic evil arabian sorceror/vizier head? Like the ones you always had in those 1960 arabian nights movies?

@Zwerkules: Could you consider to add water and arabian ships to your tileset?

There is an old HAK "Caravels" by Some Ux which ships could work well for Arabian ships especially with a little retexture or some additions.

@Kendaric Varkellen: Could you provide a picture of the vizier you are looking for?

Don't have a picture sadly, but think of "Jafar" in Disney's Aladdin to get an idea of what I'm looking for.

In lieu of a picture from Kendaric, perhaps something akin to Tom Baker from The Golden Voyage of Sinbad?

Edit:
This site has many more images; maybe one of the aged, gray-bearded versions would be better.
