When the patch is installed and the game launch screen brought up, the play button does nothing. Empty executable button. It just clicks and  you can click it 100x and nothing happens. The versions via the configuration screen say 1.01 and 1.03 but seem non-related. The game was working fine before I dl'd this patch. Is there anybody with any idea what is going on?

I ran into the same problem. Pretty infuriating.

If I run the exe directly: Dragon Age\\bin_ship\\daorigins.exe I get the following error:

"This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."

Incidentally, I'm running under XP, and I specified an install directory slightly different than the default:

C:\\Program Files\\Electronic Arts\\Dragon Age

Not sure if that's useful info or not for anyone trying to troubleshoot.

I'm running under XP as well. . wtf is going on? it has to be something to do with the update. . . it was working fine before I updated and now nothing. is there any way to remove the update and go back to the version it was at beforehand? like 1.00 or something

I was off track. I found another forum post where someone diagnosed the problem better.

http://daforums.biow...03805&forum=146

the fix is to install an updated file from MS:

http://www.microsoft...&displaylang=en

Doing this made my game able to run again.

Worked for me! Thanks!

Be sure you download the appropriate update for your OS (x86, etc etc)!

Once I did this, clicking Play on the launcher worked,

Thanks again!

I can confirm this works. Make sure to download the x86 version, even if you're running a 64 bit OS because the game runs in 32 bit mode so it needs the 32 bit files to work properly.

ok thanks for the post architect, VERY appreciated. it turns out that if anybody having this problem wants verification on how to fix the problem, simply go to this site: http://daforums.biow...orum=146&sp=15. Input a year (1902 or something) and then proceed to the forum while logged in.

Once there if you go to the second page you will find more detailed information on the solution to the problem. the issue is revolving around, I must say, a pretty ****ty patch (Version 1.01) and little to no forethought in how it would effect different gamers with different updated software; this patch was released using the newest version of Microsoft Visual C++ and as a result requires the most updated version to sync it properly with DAO executables.

IN otherwords, go to this link: http://www.microsoft...&displaylang=en (in IE web browser) and try the three different downloads at the bottom of the page. I tried the first two and then the last one before the game actually worked.

I am running an XP -64bit processor so this might explain why the vcredist_x86.exe file worked for me when the others did not. it takes about 40 seconds to install properly and then the game will run. i hope this helps anybody else having issues.

cudos to architect for the initial research.

Updating the C++ library worked for me.  Find the fix in the forums, even if you have 64bit OS, dl both the x64 and the x86 versions and install, i dont know what the IA64 one is, but it was not needed.  Good luck!

here is the link: http://www.microsoft...&displaylang=en

No, EVERYONE should use the x86 version only. daorigins.exe is a 32-bit executable.

IA64 is for the Intel Itanium (aka "Itanic") architecture. I can assure you that no one here will want to install that one.

This seems to solve the issue just fine, but it only worked after I downloaded the x86 version [after trying the x64]. b55 and elo have it on the nose, updating your CSS with the x86 file should make it run
