So would somebody supportive of this decision care to list all of the positive change brought about by closing OT?

1. No more brony posts
2. No more metal posts in music threads
3. No more having sixteen pages of posts in my favourite topic pop up over night.
4. Much more productive time to spend working and being with family.
5. No more brony posts
6. Fewer 'me too' quote pyramid posts to scroll through
7. ManDogGiraffe has not posted since OT was removed
8. Neither has 4chan invaded.
9. No more brony posts.
10. Less rickrolling.
11. No pressure to come up with funny images or videos.
12. No residual guilt for not participating in the forum murder-mystery.
13. No more brony posts.

Several reasons, but the two that hold the most validity for me are a love of the setting and a love of the characters. In the first, putting your own characters in a pre-defined setting can be interesting. For the second, let's just say shipping characters is a sign of an active imagination.

You can't. The item needed is the hidden cache. Once you click on that, a lockbox will be added to your inventory. You can pick it open (use Leliana) or deliver it to Jetta in Redcliffe

Mine were less gore filled, but yes.

The speed of implementation told me they really were not interested in any discussion. That Conal Pierse posted after the first announcement was a bit of a surprise. There are alternatives to here when you are ready for them. You are an asset to whatever online community you participate in.

When I think of Community Managers, I think of people like Sanya Thomas (EA Mythic) or some of the CMs working for GOA. I know one of them (Sterntaler) joined EA Mythic, then was merged into BioWare and I think now he's working for Bethesda. Those people connected with the community, they were the ones who would get answers from the devs and who brought issues of the playerbase to the developers.

I have never seen anything like that here.

I remember her from playing DAOC and even before that when she was a volunteer mod for Everquest. Just Google 'Tweety rants'.

That represents a lot of time. Some might say it was wasted, but getting to know some very nice people is never time poorly spent. It just won't be happening here anymore.

I never felt like I was stingy with my likes, it's very odd that I never hit it before. Until now, of course.

Being out of likes is pretty much the norm for me. That being said, I agree with your analysis of what is going on. We are seeing a down sizing of a corporate social media presence and a redirecting of focus into other, less multilateral social media.

I'll probably get a few laughs for asking this, but can we get some official word on why you're closing off-topic?

Do you want the only discussions on here to be about why the ME3 ending sucks and whatever DA people talk about? I don't think that'll help you the way you think it will.

Closing it, and consolidating topics, will make moderation simpler. Dunno if that's the reason, but it's possible.

I'm sad. The 'what are you listening?' thread was far and away my favourite thread. While the metal got a little repetitive, there were a bevy of posters who listed interesting music on a daily basis.

Selfishly, I rather enjoyed spamming the forum with cat pictures and other funnies. It's a part of my daily routine that I will miss.
