#19972272 Played Reaver in MP: Advice to transition it to SP please!

Posté par Elithramir sur 26 décembre 2015 - 08:24 dans Combat, Strategy, and Gameplay

I haven't touched DAI in many months, but just bought the GOTY edition for PC (previously had it on PS4).  I had 200+ hours into a mage and a rogue (and no, never finished the main story, which is my goal now), but the idea of a Reaver in SP has intrigued me since playing it a little bit in MP.

Does the experience feel similar?  I'm going to be playing on Nightmare with some Trials enabled (although trials are new since I've played last).  I'd also like to stick to 2H for aesthetics.  Advice on selecting race is welcome; I'm leaning towards Dwarf, but I'm not sure how 2H will look on those short guys.

I have looked over some old posts, but I'm hoping to get some updated help (or simply confirmation that the old builds still work with the DLC, any updates and the new Trials thing).

Any advice is welcome thank you!

I seem to recall that was the case for ME3MP (and wasn't it also a bonus to $$ earned too?)

just wondering, thanks!

Aha, another question: can I get rid of these weapons that aren't assigned to anyone but say they aren't salvagable?

This is hugely important: despite great weapons and accs, if you do not understand the game's mechanics, even well geared players can find the game tricky.

Learn the game mechanics:

Enemies - types, their attacks, timing, scripted movement/placement/reactions.

Aggro - how to draw it, how to avoid it - when for both.

Support - if your character is a support type, learn how best to support the team (barrier, well placed wall of fire, winter's grasp etc).

Combos - learn how to inflict status effects with your powers, and in conjuction with other players (ie, paralyze, slow, weaken).

Characters - learn their strengths and weaknesses, and timing for using powers in what order to maximize damage output.

Map cover usage - learn the maps and how to use cover to minimize damage taken while whittling down enemies (one of the biggest fails is often fighting out in the open, taking damage from multiple angles). also here, learning to draw enemies around a corner or through a choke point in order to control their movement and number of enemies attacking at any given time.

When to, when not to - a great example is reviving teammates. sometimes it is safe to revive. other times, if enemies are too close (and/or mucho ranged atacks), you will also be downed before being able to revive. at times it is best to clutch the wave (solo) rather play romantic hero and die in the process.

Gold! - as a new player it is super important to collect gold from vases and chests to buy chests in the store. mic up and tell other players you want to collect all the gold since you are new and need it. some players who have the good stuff will often skip gold, but they have probably forgotten how painful it can be to be a new player with the lowest weapons and accessories.
_________________________________________

These are some things to consider, aside from weps, accs, and promotions. I have seen many a player with good gear, but they lack the strategic understandings mentioned above and often faceplant (and so say 'this character sucks'). It's not the character, but the player who sucks. Understanding your characters and how to best to utilize them against enemy units is the key (granted, great weps n accs certainly help, but are not the end all be all).

All the best to you OP, and welcome to the DAIMP community.

And I just wanted to day thanks especially for this post, as it's information that's usually hard to come by and not often passed along to the newbies!

Oh shoot, I just realized I've made a HUGE assumption: that your skill tree resets upon Promotion. Is that incorrect?

#19395817 Just starting DAMP... Recommendations on classes to build up inventory?

Posté par Elithramir sur 08 juillet 2015 - 06:19 dans Multiplayer

Again thank you for all the advice! I'm happy to report that Threatening is going well and I found a PUG that carried me through a Perilous Dragon run so that was great! I also got a HoH rare bow and HoK rare 2H from store chests so I'm excited about promoting my Archer and starting a Reaver!

I've stumbled across another question: I've messed up my AW build following an out of date guide, so I'm confronted with the following dilemma: do I respec via promoting or craft that item? I strongly suspect the answer is promotion, so maybe I'm really asking when is it a good idea to craft those respec items?

Again, many thanks!

Thanks again for the continued advice! I have more questions:

It seems like there are a lot of builds/classes that depend on HoH/HoK. Do those items drop in one place rather than others? I'm thinking chests versus perilous chest rooms vs dragons etc.

Are there recommendations or guidelines for when it's OK to bring a character into a Perilous PUG? I recall there was something similar for MEMP's gold and Platinum tiers.

Last one, is there a class type whose Promotion bonus I should prioritize first? Con vs Will vs Cunning?

Thanks again! I'm going to try out Elementalist soon because of all the positive feedback!

#19388085 Just starting DAMP... Recommendations on classes to build up inventory?

Posté par Elithramir sur 07 juillet 2015 - 10:20 dans Multiplayer

Thank you for all of the replies! I have already started looking over the large resource thread.

I will definitely look into the LFG message board; I myself am playing on PS4.

I do have a couple questions:

Should I make Promoting a priority? As soon as I get a character to level 20 should I promote them?

When should I start thinking about crafting beyond unlocking characters? I have been adding simple runes and the gray armor upgrades, but I'm thinking about crafting upgrades.

Thanks again for the help!

#19386389 Just starting DAMP... Recommendations on classes to build up inventory?

Posté par Elithramir sur 07 juillet 2015 - 12:19 dans Multiplayer

Hello everyone, like the title says I'm just picking up the multiplayer here in DAI and have been enjoying it so far. I've gotten an archer to level 17 and an AW to 11, but that's about it. I've unlocked Duelist, Virtuoso, Elem, Hunter, and Sin. I haven't rolled any characters over so I have no stat bonuses to speak of.

Are there any recommendations folks have for classes to get started with? It seems that this iteration of Bioware MP (more so than ME3MP) is very gear dependent, so it seems like I should be focusing on getting as much gold and drops as possible.

Any other suggestions or thoughts on the subject are welcome. Thanks in advance for the help!

Hello!  Was this an active ME3 MP group about 2 years ago?  If so, I think I was a member!  Either way, I just re-installed and am loving MP again, so I was hoping to find some folks to group up with.  I used to play gold on a couple of builds, silver and bronze regularly, but I am extremely rusty at the moment.  Bronze is helping knock the rust off. :)

My Origin ID is: Orig3EYE

I hope to see some of you guys in the game!

#10809495 What is best Weapon for Geth engineers in Gold?

Posté par Elithramir sur 08 juin 2012 - 10:42 dans Multiplayer

No Snakes Alive wrote...

Since their massively-damaging Overloads have shields and barriers disappearing faster than kids in Casey Anthony's custody, you want a gun that eats through Armor and health. A Mattock is awesome for that. So is a Carnifax, Raptor, etc. The Indra might even be nice depending on its weight.

I have a mostly on topic newbie question: How do you know which guns have more armor penetration? Is there a stat or is it just class based (not figuring mods into it), i.e, assault rifles > pistols > ... or whtever the ranking might be? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for all the replies! I am up to N7 of around 160 and have some gear already. Is there a way to link your multiplayer profile? I play on PC and my name is Orig3EYE if anyone else wants to group up.

#10723195 Just started MP - advice for Silver

Posté par Elithramir sur 03 juin 2012 - 09:33 dans Multiplayer

Hello everyone! I've been playing the SP campaign and just started playing multiplayer.  I was hoping to get tips on how to be successful at the Silver level and start working towards Gold eventually.  To that end, I would like to get some advice on:

1) Which packs to buy? (I've already maxed out the common weapons, still working on some common mods.)
2) What classes are successful at SIlver? (I've had some success with Geth Eng, but was hoping to have some more variety.)
3) Any other thoughts?

Thanks for the help in advance!

#227767 Again: Arcane Warrior

Posté par Elithramir sur 18 novembre 2009 - 04:28 dans Story, Campaign & Characters

I've gone with all 4 AW talents, so all the spells I have up simo are:Arcane Shield, Rock Armor, Spell Wisp, Death Magic, Combat Magic (AW), and Shimmering Shield (AW). I have my mage using the Warden Commander's Armor with an axe I believe (because my STR and DEX are low, so there's no advantage for me from using daggers. Spell Wisp is to increase spellpower which in turn augments damage (I tried getting the top Mage talent that increases spellpower, but it was only good for 5 points I believe).

Anyways, running it like this is pretty silly. I can tank most Red/Orange bosses (they look red on my screen) and have to pop some health pots throughout, but at most 10 and the outcome is almost always assured. The couple of times that he has been killed (it's my main, btw) is when fighting critters like Orges or Wild Slyvans, because of their grabbing the character and tossing him around or trapping him and taking constant damage. Otherwise, he's as pretty close to invincible without cheating and turning on God Mode. If it wasn't for the chests that I want unlocked, I could likely finish the game solo (I'm level 16-17 atm).

Enjoy!

#150240 Jammer quest bug

Posté par Elithramir sur 10 novembre 2009 - 05:20 dans PC Technical Support

I've picked up three items from the dwarves' boxes, however only one of them appear in my inventory (the iron ring, iirc).  Jammer's loot box won't open at all.  At this point, I'd take the explosion he threatens.

Anyone else had issues with this and have a way to fix it?  Thanks.
