#18944477 Winter Shards & Firestarter.

Posté par Stinkface27 sur 08 avril 2015 - 01:16 dans General Discussion (Spoilers)

I have heard that Revenant drops 3 shards during the fight.  He does it at different phases according to what I've read on different sites.  So, Thousand Cuts may have killed him too quickly, haha.  I think it's a poor mechanic for the achievement.  The shards should have just been placed in the area to begin with or have them launch from his dead body or something, so you can destroy them after he's gone.

Edit:  This is the guide I used when I missed one.

http://www.trueachie...achievement.htm

Thanks so much for that resource and your help, wwilt13 :) It was exactly that. I killed him again without using any ultimate abilities and I made sure to drag the fight out long enough for him to spawn 3 Shards - then I got the achievement! I agree it is a bit of a silly way to handle it, but oh well :) Thanks again!

#18944468 Jaws of hakkon - firestarter achievement Fire locations

Posté par Stinkface27 sur 08 avril 2015 - 01:13 dans Story, Campaign, and Characters

I didn't have problems with Firestarter. There are a few missable spots. Just before the door you need a key for, go up the ramp to your right as there is a brazier there. Also, there is a brazier behind a rogue locked door a bit later. Third, the end boss spawns three winter shards at various points during the fight, these count towards the cheevo. As these are stationary, they are easily missed unless you go look for them. Also, if you kill the boss too quickly (i.e. before he has the chance to spawn the shards) you will miss the achievement.

if you still don't have this after completion and there are no hostiles around the temple you are still missing a brazier

Thanks very much for your help, both of you :) It was actually what caradoc2000 said, killing the boss too quickly makes you miss the 3 Shards he spawns. I did it again and didn't use any ultimate abilities and got the achievement.

In 3 runs through the puzzle, the tiles all become inactive after I open the second door. What you are experiencing is likely a bug. There is no 3rd puzzle door there, and I could find nothing else there using a detached camera.

Thanks for investigating so thoroughly :) Shame, I thought it was a neat little secret door. Oh well!

Posté par Stinkface27 sur 06 avril 2015 - 11:44 dans General Discussion (Spoilers)

There isn't another door. If you open one door, and then repeat that combination again before you unlock the other door, it does the animation and sound for unlocking the door you already opened.

That doesn't sound like what I'm describing, or what Talok was describing. This is when you have already opened both doors with their specific patterns, then you clear the lights and solve the puzzle with only the middle light illuminated, there is the opening sound/animation, same as when you open the other doors. Makes it seem as if there is another door that has been opened somewhere else, and it's distinctly different from the "reset" sound/animation.

#18934257 Winter Shards & Firestarter.

Posté par Stinkface27 sur 06 avril 2015 - 06:40 dans General Discussion (Spoilers)

Has anyone else not been able to get this achievement? I don't care so much about the achievement, but it makes me feel like I missed a room while combing through the temple.

And just to be clear, the "winter shards" are the ward/ice bombs throughout the temple right?

If not, I found my problem. If so, either I'm missing a room or it's bugged.

Oh yea. I plowwed through the whole dlc yesterday and did the temple part 3 times to make sure I wasn't missing any. So I'm out of ideas.

Maybe I killed the reverant too quickly? I was already geared and leveled to a ridiculous degree so it went pretty quick. I'm one of those min/max people, I don't know why. It's a compulsion.

Hey Talok, I have the exact same problem. I've definitely gotten all of the fires lit and I did the whole temple bit 3 times today to make sure I didn't miss any of the little ice guys (which I assume are the "Winter Shards"?) - and I still don't have the achievement :/ I considered that I may killed the revenant too quickly also - he pretty much died as soon as he spawned to Thousand Cuts, so I'm wondering if I may have missed one that way. Kind of annoying :/

#18934049 Jaws of hakkon - firestarter achievement Fire locations

Posté par Stinkface27 sur 06 avril 2015 - 05:01 dans Story, Campaign, and Characters

Stuck on this achievement, lit all the fires but still hasn't unlocked for me. I am thinking maybe it has something to do with the "Destroy all the Winter Shards" portion of the achievement? I've already completed the DLC so there aren't any enemies left for me to kill, so I think I may be out of luck :/ Anybody else have this problem?

#18930387 They Came From Somewhere Else (Jaws of Hakkon)

Posté par Stinkface27 sur 05 avril 2015 - 01:29 dans Story, Campaign, and Characters

Hi everyone,

I'm a bit puzzled. I'm trying to trigger the quest They Came From Somewhere Else, but I'm not able to for some reason. To my knowledge, I've already met the criteria, which is finding all four codex entries for Mysteries of the Frostback Basin. I've definitely got them all as I specifically hunted them all down and they're definitely in my codex.

I'm nearly to the end of the DLC,

Spoiler

I am a bit paranoid about progressing past the point where I can complete They Came From Somewhere else - I'm trying to recruit every person into the Inquisition I can, so missing this quest and the recruit who potentially joins the Inquisition as a reward would be very uncool!

The only thing I can think is that maybe I need to complete the main story quest before this quest will trigger? Or the sadder possibility of maybe I've already progressed past the point where it will trigger? Or something else I haven't thought of? Or just a bug?

Please and thank you for any help anyone can offer! :)

Did anyone ever figure out where the "extra door" is. I got just the centre one illuminated and it did the animation/noise but I never found another door! I'm greedy and want more stuff :)

#18726066 It's just ... boring. Why, BioWare? This isn't you.

Posté par Stinkface27 sur 04 mars 2015 - 02:37 dans Feedback & Suggestions

Thanks, OP. You put into words my feelings about the game exactly. It's beautiful, the main story is great, the characters are great - but it's just too diluted with meaningless filler. This isn't the game I want to fill that purpose.

#18448098 Sera & Solas Similarities (Who is Sera really?)

Posté par Stinkface27 sur 23 janvier 2015 - 02:22 dans Story, Campaign, and Characters

Actually, the bolded could be very simply explained by remembering that Solas is horrified at how far modern elves are from the elves he remembers from Arlathan's golden age. From Solas's perspective, Sera is representative of the decline of the elves; she rejects her elven heritage, the elven language, the elves' inherent ties to magic, and prefers to wallow in ignorance and fear. She's been assimilated into human society, and embraces that assimilation. That's what he's referring to with that line, not anything about Sera being tied to any of the elven gods.

Yeah, I still don't like this theory. I'm an Occam's Razor kind of person, and this is all way too convoluted. Farthest I'm willing to go is that Sera has unacknowledged hedge mage powers that she's kept repressed; not powerful enough to get her dragged to the circle, but her connection to the Fade makes her more perceptive than she would otherwise be.

Great analysis of that line, I can certainly see what you mean. I'm still a big fan of this theory, but I understand the skepticism.

#18444169 International Store or Shipping Options

Posté par Stinkface27 sur 23 janvier 2015 - 12:25 dans BioWare Merchandise

While the cost is insane, it does also include import Tax. I order to the UK and it seriously hurts my pocket.. My desire for Mass Effect 4 is equal to an EU Bioware Store -_-

My last order was the two DA:I Giclees, and a DA:I Prima Strategy Guide. The delivery was:

Shipping & Handling

$60.00

Well, I don't know about the UK, but in Australia's case, there is no import tax/duties for goods under a certain threshold (thousands? I forget, something much more than $100), so I don't feel like the cost is justified.

They simply need to add a budget shipping option. Premium shipping is nice but not necessary all of the time.

#18438501 International Store or Shipping Options

Posté par Stinkface27 sur 22 janvier 2015 - 12:27 dans BioWare Merchandise

Australia here, I would buy twice as much as I buy now if it weren't for the horrible shipping. $23 to ship two t-shirts....

I never buy anything unless there's a massive sale.

p.s. As a joke, I  added all the things to my cart that I'd like to buy - 2x t-shirts and 4x paperback books. Total cost of merchandise: $105. Shipping: $128 !!! Grand total for two shirts and four books - $233! Insanity.

#18438448 Lack of plus sizes...

Posté par Stinkface27 sur 22 janvier 2015 - 12:14 dans BioWare Merchandise

Completely agree. In May of last year, I got a great reply from Treehouse Brand about the lack of clothing for larger sizes and was pretty optimistic. Doesn't look like much has changed but at least they realise there is room for improvement.

I'd also love to hear your thoughts when it shows up, good and bad. There are so many lovely lady shapes, and we don't do a great job of servicing a lot of them, but it's something we do aim to get better at, so any feedback is helpful.

#18403175 Sera & Solas Similarities (Who is Sera really?)

Posté par Stinkface27 sur 18 janvier 2015 - 03:26 dans Story, Campaign, and Characters

Played this game through once and didn't keep Sera around much because I love Varric and he was a permanent fixture in my party. Now I'm playing it again and noticed interesting banter between her and Solas. I kinda halfway formulated this theory and now I'm feeling very excited to read that others are speculating the same things and fleshing it out. (Good effort, you guys, for putting those massive posts together with all the screenshots/pictures and codex entries!)

Now to me one of the most telling lines of banter (haven't seen anyone post it yet? I could have missed it) was between her and Solas when she gets déjà vu...

Spoiler

The bolded to me seems like it could really mean what we suspect about Sera. I have tried but can't think of any other interpretation. Even if this is not true, it's great fun to speculate about :)

#18212028 Please Make Fewer Heartbreak Romances for Women - Possible Spoilers

Posté par Stinkface27 sur 28 décembre 2014 - 12:12 dans Feedback & Suggestions

I think one of the main reasons why I settled (don't hate me) for Cullen is that I can't actually deal with any more heartbreak in these games. I know, I'm a coward. I've got a Solas playthrough but honestly I just wanted a simple(ish) loving relationship for my poor canon Inqusitor - she deserves it. Cullen is a great option if you just want that lovin' without a bad case of the painful feels - but he seems to be the exception!

Medium settings unfortunately, but I still think she's quite nice to look at :) Very sad I can't recreate her and play her again.

#18182087 Any tips for re-creating your Inquisitor for Round 2?

Posté par Stinkface27 sur 24 décembre 2014 - 07:14 dans Combat, Strategy, and Gameplay

I'm in exactly the same boat, and I assume many others are as well. :( Not sure what we can do aside from playing the same character again from the earliest save.

#18180165 Saving A Character's Appearance As A Preset

Posté par Stinkface27 sur 24 décembre 2014 - 01:38 dans Feedback & Suggestions

Fully support adding this feature. As is, the closest thing we have to such a feature is to keep the very first "clean" save with that character.

Also, I fully support allowing a third-party hair creation tool.  ^_^

I came to the forums today to ask specifically about this. I have the same desire as others in this thread and I plan on playing one of my Inquisitors again and having her be my perfectionist/canon one...but it seems like my only option is to use that first save I made with her and start from there. I'm pretty 1) annoyed by having to do that and 2) concerned that it would cause complications with Keep etc.

Has anybody done this with success? Does the Keep update to reflect the new choices if you start from level one on the same character and override your saves/choices etc?

#18110248 Dragon Age: Inquisition Patch Master Thread

Posté par Stinkface27 sur 16 décembre 2014 - 10:51 dans News & Announcements

I'm a bit disappointed, I'm having much worse performance after the patch. Loading screens taking longer, stuttering, CTD, plus the game looks much worse. I play on medium settings with meshes up to high, and yes I do understand about the shader settings being previously set to Ultra. But I don't understand how I was playing seemingly without issue when they were on ultra, but now that they're on medium it's worse?

#17854022 PC Community Concerns

Posté par Stinkface27 sur 24 novembre 2014 - 10:48 dans News & Announcements

Cross-posting here from the EA Answers forum:

Been having the same problem as everyone with the Direct X error. I have an older computer but was running everything beautifully with great temps at "Automatic" settings which were set to high. The only times I had an issue was during conversations and times when the camera automatically changed in conversation, and the war room. That's when I'd get the DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG message.

Everybody's different of course, but what ended up working for me was turning off ambient occlusion and turning off Origins In-Game. I played for a whole day on my Automatic/High settings without one error.

Well, until I tried to load into Val Royeaux the first time, then I crashed repeatedly.

What I've done is make a save right before I go into the war room to change zones, set everything to LOW and loaded it, zoned in, then turned the settings back up. It's actually ridiculous to have to do this but at least I can play the game.

I thought this must be the herald of the end of my computer's life, but it plays every other title on medium to high settings like a champ and even THIS game on high settings when not randomly having these Direct X issues.

#17826121 Can I Haz Tooltips?

Posté par Stinkface27 sur 21 novembre 2014 - 01:31 dans Feedback & Suggestions

I'm actually really surprised not to see more complaints about this. I can't stand it! I can't think of a single reason why they don't have tooltips that you can toggle on and off to your preference. Shouldn't have to open up a bunch of menus to read what the abilities do, takes you right ouf the action.

If they don't change the endings, then all those HUUUUUUUUGE plot holes weren't just clever, subtle hints of indoctrination - they were just huge plot holes??

I'm so sad....
