#18888603 Patch 6 Discussion Thread

Posté par Cornughon sur 29 mars 2015 - 07:00 dans Feedback & Suggestions

It's not in the patch notes, so I don't think there's any changes here, but:

-Are the multiGPU issues fixed? Like the flickering moon/distant textures, and the opaque fog? I know in patch 5 the flickering ground textures were fixed, but what I mention here wasn't.

-Mantle loading speed still slow?

And are there yet any announcement about Black Emporium?

Forgive for not going through all these pages, or that ranting topic, to look for an aswer.

It's astounding that a 'simple' hair mod can make such a huge difference for femshep's looks. No offense but the 'unmodded' femsheps tend to end up very similar looking to ones posted before.

@BioWare: Is there any chance the multiGPU-issues will be fixed in an upcoming patch? I'm referring to the opaque smoke issue, and the occasional flickering textures (like the moon).

Since both nVidia and AMD setups are affected by it I'm assuming it's BioWare's responsibility to correct this.

Crossfire works fine, DA:I is great on AMD hardware at 1440p all on Ultra settings.

Not exactly, did you check the fog? Yes it's not supposed to be looking that ugly and 2-dimensional...

For the rest I agree, ever since they fixed Mantle in the patch :).

#18239855 So in the end DAI was good but not great.

Posté par Cornughon sur 31 décembre 2014 - 06:16 dans General Discussion (Spoilers)

I thought DA:I was excellent, and well-deserving of it's GOTY-award. I only just completed it, and I think Bioware delivered on most of it's promises. Sure the PC's controls/tac-cam could have been better, and there are plenty of small bugs, but it's not as buggy as some of Bethesda's (Skyrim) or Obsidian's (Fallout: New Vegas) games when just released. At least in my experience.
I'm curious in how much CDPR will be able to fix all the bugs in Witcher 3, and how much will still remain.

Storywise it maybe not as deep as Origins or the Mass Effects or KotOR were, but it's still engaging enough, and there's even a lot of depth in the lore beneath it's seemingly shallow surface.

There's A LOT of content (I don't mind fetch quests in general, and I think they were at least better than DA2's, and I even liked DA2), and a LOT of world to explore, and I loved doing so, even after 8 areas, but I understand why people think it's too much.

I DO think however, while I don't mind the crafting system basically, that one needs to gather too much minerals/plants/animal skins, and it's what distracts most from the gameflow in my opinion. I think it's great that crafting ingredients don't take up inventory space though.

I think DA:I is better than Origins in most aspects. However with all those open maps and exploring I think there should have been more (and larger!) dungeons. With larger I mean most of the current dungeons are of the tiny Morrowind-sized kind (yes Morrowind had small and repetitive dungeons and cliff racers, it wasn't all that rosy)...

Well my 2 cents at least.

According to the full notes it hasn't fixed any issues with DAI. If you already had issues this is unlikely to fix it. If you don't have issues it won't improve anything. The one possibility for improvement is with SLI, but that's just a guess as they don't outright say it.

Don't count on it, it appears to be a game bug: AMD suffers the same issues too...

#18178585 Why Do All Female Characters Run Like Unrealistic Girly Girls ?

Posté par Cornughon sur 23 décembre 2014 - 10:27 dans Feedback & Suggestions

I get that people don't like the female run, to be honest I think its over the top, as is the male run.  Complaining about this is fine (although frankly there are many more important things wrong with the game).

Well some people think that's more distracting and more important to fix than say the control 'issues', or that people can't even play the game due to technical issues.

For example: personally I couldn't care less for not having the ability to 'walk', since I never use it anyway in these kind of games. But a lot of people believe they can't even play the game without it because it ruins immersion for them.

What I think is more important than anything else is fixing the multi-GPU issues with opaque smoke and flickering textures. And adding more and better hair- and eyebrowstyles suited for female characters. And a 'mirror of transformation'. So to each his/her own priorities, which makes us human ofcourse :P

Is the lack of dynamic weather/lighting and the wet indoors confirmed as being engine caused or is it just informed speculation on your part. I'm genuinely curious and mean no disrespect by that question :) .

Well it does have dynamic lighting and shadows, like every game since... well... a long time now. The 'global lightsource' is static though in DA:I, but I for one thing can't imagine it's because of an engine limitation.

At least I don't get the feeling a day goes by in just an hour or so, just like the countries in DA appear to be much larger than only 40 square miles or something

Speaking of female jogging: I took another look at Dreamfall Chapter's Zoë, and I realised she could do with a little bit more hip sway, since there's none at all (all in my opinion ofcourse, but I love the ass though):

Also my point of 'critisism': the lack of modding support.
I usually don't care about mods at all, even in mod-friendly games (I never installed one in Skyrim, and still clocked 300 hours of playing time on that one), but because the femquisitor's hair- and eyebrowstyles and are so atrocious, it seems like the community would be the only solution of fixing that, since I don't suppose Bioware would add more anytime soon, since they still have their hands full at bugfixing and adding a 'walk' button.

But then again: anything is better than Id Tech 5 (which would be my single complaint about Wolfenstein).

#18165271 Why Do All Female Characters Run Like Unrealistic Girly Girls ?

Posté par Cornughon sur 22 décembre 2014 - 01:57 dans Feedback & Suggestions

I love the femquisitor running animation. I love it when women in reallife have a walk like that (the ones not doing it on purpose). Personally I think it would have even been better with SW:TOR's Body Type 4, but that's just me. And call me sexist but I prefer my female inquisitor to be a bit girly over being overly 'athletic', or tough guy FemShep-like. But to each his/her own I guess.

I think the best solution is for allowing different walking simulations like in The Sims 4. And no longer using a dude-on-steroids-with-an-elephant-penis for the motion capture in cutscenes, but a more 'in-between' person.

Yes I'm quite bothered by this exaggerated masculin pose and walk and heavy biceps in cutscenes. It's even worse than in Mass Effect 2/3...

#18082887 Please don't make a (semi) open world DA game again.

Posté par Cornughon sur 14 décembre 2014 - 12:41 dans General Discussion (NO Spoilers)

DA:I ISN'T open world.  It's a collection of MMO-zones. Open world games generally attempt to simulate a living environment with a general populace of NPCs that has daily routines.  DA:I doesn't have any of that.

Well then Morrowind isn't open world either by your definition... or Farcry 3 for that matter. Ass Creed has crowd but to say they actually 'do' something besides walking around...

Posté par Cornughon sur 11 décembre 2014 - 10:26 dans News & Announcements

I am going to try this. I can't seem to restore a previous version and was using the 14.11.2 beta driver so I will see if the update and disabling GE App helps. It's soul-crushing how bad it got. Take a step *freeze* step *freeze* step *rubber band OMG* and Cassandra took about 5 seconds to blink. Either the whole Inquisition is wearing on her to a weird slo-mo degree or something is angry somewhere. :(

If you have problems installing the 14.12 drivers you might want to check this thread (as mentioned before on this forum):

http://www.tomshardw...-installed.html

Apparently Microsoft decided those drivers were the sh!t and tried to make them just sh!t by not allowing them to install properly with one of their critical updates.

Oh and before installing the 14.12, make sure you uninstall the 14.11.2's first.

Posté par Cornughon sur 11 décembre 2014 - 07:44 dans News & Announcements

My game is unplayable now :( When I started Origin, it automatically patched. So I am SoL I believe.

Riddle me this, Batman: Before patch, my game ran well on medium-high settings on my Radeon HD 7800 series and my (terrible) Phenom 2 with minimal lag and fps issues. So why is it that since patching, my game stutters and momentarily freezes on LOW settings? How did Bioware mess this up this badly? At this point, they'd be better off pulling the patch to fix it instead of patching to repair their patch.

Yo dawg, I heard you like patches so here's a patch for your patch.

Did you install the latest 14.12 drivers?

If you're using the Gaming Evolved App, disable it, or uncheck the 'track Gameplay' in it's DA:I profile. For some reason it causes quite a huge performance hit and heavy stuttering while active...

#18048863 Dragon Age: Inquisition Patch Master Thread

Posté par Cornughon sur 11 décembre 2014 - 10:29 dans News & Announcements

evolve is a joke, it never gave me proper settings for a game, for example in da:i everything on low or medium but 4xmsaa, but the game runs much better with everything on high without msaa. just delete it (including raptr), its definitly not worth the hard drive space. somebody mentioned earlier that raptr can cause freezes and stuttering too

I don't mind the program, but reading it causes stuttering (in DA:I) I had to try this myself. And the person is correct: Having the Gaming Evolved App (overlay) active in DA:I causes extra stuttering (as in a 5 fps drop vs a smooth and consistant 60fps) It didn't fix ALL stutter, but it did with most of the annoying ones...
Have to try yet if it's just the overlay or the whole app which causes it...

So for those having an AMD card and are affected by stuttering issues: try and disable the Gaming Evolved/Raptr app, and see how this works out for you!

used mantle the whole time, so dont know about directx, but patch+mantle+the new omega driver gives me a big performance boost (using no fps counter so cant tell exact numbers, but its visible)

Same here. Although the performance boost can also be caused by forced lower settings I didn't really noticed. At least it seems it's performing a lot smoother in higher resolutions (at least in 1800p).

There's still stuttering occasionally but I don't think it's too distracting. This can also be a driver issue since it was mentioned in the driver release notes.

The fog bug is still there by the way, as is the flickering moon in those regions that show one.

confirmed in Control Panel>Program and Features its 1.0.0.1 surprised I forgot that given that I have used and built computers since 1987 when I had an Amiga 500 oh how fondly I remember Adventures of Monkey Island on 13 Floppy Disks  :D

You mean the Secret of Monkey Island. That came on 4 disks. The second one however, LeChuck's Revenge, came on 11 disks.

Look, the problem is pretty straightforward: BioWare has a traditional twofold problem with quality control. They don't test enough, and they try to act like it's okay.

They ALWAYS promise their games will be the awesomest ever made, and their games are ALWAYS buggy as crap on release day, with triple the dose of the bugs for the PC version. ALWAYS. From Baldur's Gate all the way to Dragon Age Inquisition (no, I haven't played Shattered Steel, my bad).

And post-EA, they ALWAYS overreact when the fans get pissed about the poor quality control, and they ALWAYS go with "it's a feature, not a bug" (RE: DX10 not-support in DA2's earlier builds, the randomly disabled tactics in DA2, the timer-based loading screens in ME2, the everything in the UI of DAI, the face import in ME3, the save import problems in ME2, ME3 and DA2) up until TOO MANY fans are complaining, when they make a tired sigh and say something placative with the tone of "oh, if only it shuts the peasants up" and start making patches or hotfixes.

It's something many of us have already come to expect, much like the "Traditional BioWare Party Setup" or "Traditional BioWare Story Unfolding Steps".

TLDR: There will always be people unaware of this fact, and they will complain, and you have to live with it, like everyone else does. After all, without negative feedback, how would BioWare know the game needs fixing?

Wait! Are you telling us Watch_Dogs was secretly made by BioWare?

By the way: Shattered Steel was buggy too...

I just hope they fix problem with Mantle. I was getting +10 fps in the benchmark with it but in game it was a stream of hitching and frame rate issues comperaded to DX 11

Apparently the patch contains Mantle improvements. Meanwhile I suggest installing the latest official Catalyst drivers which have appeared today (14.12), which may contain some improvements as well. There's however a 'known issue' concerning stuttering in Dragon Age still:

◾[410393] Minor stuttering may be seen in Dragon Age Inquisition on Single and Multi GPU configurations

For sure. I have a similar setup but a GTX 970 that I just upgraded to, which made all the difference in the world.. I can basically feel it sweating a bit in areas with a lot of water + rain, but nowhere else. With a Titan it should be smooth as silk even with 4k.

The original Titan is slower than a GTX 970, while the Black is somewhat faster. A Titan-Z may do 4K nicely, but so would much cheaper solutions like a Radeon R9 295X2, GTX 780Ti in 2xSLI, or even 2 GTX 970's.
