I guess I'm now just feeling pragmatic about what we got and what we didn't.  Though the overall package was pretty shoddy and rubbish, there were a few nice things in it like the metal case and particularly the tarot cards, which I've seen quite a few times changing hands on Ebay for (much) more than the cost of the entire collectors' edition: I guess that made me feel better about it, and I regard the rest as just packaging.  Pity it didn't live up to the concept, but I guess there's no point wasting my time being annoyed about it.  I guess I'll learn and move on: I've had enough duff collectors' editions now to know that they usually disappoint, but there's often something in there that's worthwhile (which actually makes the DA:I CE a better deal for me than some stuff that was less shoddy but more "meh").

 

The matter of DLC not being available in the UK in spite of being advertised as such is pretty naughty and that's ultimately Gamestop's responsibility since they advertised it as such.  Again, I'm not going to waste time getting upset and annoyed any more than I have done already since the DLC was all pretty trivial stuff (being a modder myself, it's the sort of random "do it to fill in an hour at the end of the day" sort of filler that a bored employee might come up with) so I guess it's time to move on.

 

Overall I've been happy with the game and really loved the cards, so all's well that ends well.  For me, that is: none of the companies involved have come out of it looking good, in fact Gamestop, Triforce and (as usual) EA have made themselves look like a bunch of arseholes and deserve to be treated as such.  And will be, to a greater or lesser extent.

The druffalo thing is an escort quest so it sucks by default. Admittedly not as much as the Zeppelin escort at the end of Dragon Knight Saga or accompanying Modryn Oreyn at walking pace along seemingly every road in Cyrodiil but it's still quite annoying. I'm never sure how far I can get before he (or is it she? I forget now) decides he's lost and either stops or wanders back to where he started. Maybe he does neither, but escort quests are like that. Bloody escort quests. >

I was originally going to go smaller but the guy recommended against it: I think his concern was that, unless he used finer lines which may not be as durable, it would've been awkward to retain the level of detail I wanted. I'm glad people waited until afterwards before saying "three hours?! For your first one? :o" otherwise it may have put me off.

I did consider that this is a character from a video game that may not be well-remembered a few years down the line, but that doesn't really bother me overly and may have its benefits (I mean it's not like she's universally liked )

The end result, for the record.  Loosely based on her avatar, I think it captures her personality.  Really pleased with it.  First experience with body art (well, unless minor piercings count) and probably the last: the guy was awesome but three hours' worth of pain isn't something I'm inclined to do again voluntarily!

Anybody know an approachable person at Bioware who I might ask about getting a high-res version of Sera's icon from DA:I?  I kinda need it for a project.  I'm not sure what my chances are, but I know what my chances aren't if I don't even know who to ask!

The statues are a hefty outlay.  I kinda like them, but as well as being expensive, they're also huge, and I already have more clutter than I know what to do with.  I quite like Irrational's statue of the Luteces, which is a bit more diminutive than the Bioware ones at just 12", but aside from finding the space, I don't have a spare £250.  Especially as I already spent £250 I don't have on a new graphics card.

I think the Nagant is the only revolver that can be suppressed (well, the only general purpose one, anyway). I don't think it's possible with the Webleys, but they don't need to be suppressed because they just look so damn cool.

Meh, I got away without that sort of thing. I only had a heart attack (which I keep needing to point out is really incredibly bloody painful: I don't care for another one). Astonishingly, my latest blood tests came back normal: I seem to be alive, which surprised nobody more than me. Oh well, back to my diet. I hate dieting. I also hate having to moderate my alcohol intake, and only eat a sane amount of chocolate, and not smoke cigarettes, and avoid crisps at all costs, and... etc. Leave my coffee alone, though.

Some of us do it IRL just because. I'm on to my fourth now, the last couple largely because the previous ones sucked. I kinda forget that the "seems like a good idea at the time" sometimes means people have no idea who the hell I am.

It's also a real pain in the arse, so I don't really recommend it.

For me there is. That litho I sold a few days ago is being sent back to me by the buyer because somewhere during travel one of its corners got a bit of a crease. So now I've got to go through all this hassle.

Well that's arse. Although I've been known to grumble about corners being not entirely pristine (for a while I thought it was almost inevitable with shipped lithographs) they're usually entirely hidden once they're properly framed anyway. Though I know that there are people who buy them as a sort of investment rather than, y'know, art.

Okay, since nobody is convinced, it originated with my Elder Scrolls character. I spent ages poring over the names of existing bretons trying to find something that would fit and didn't find anything that inspired me, so instead of trying to be lore-correct I figured I may as well choose something stupid instead. So Vometia, Terry Pratchett's minor goddess of drunken puking suggested itself. And people started calling me that too, so it kinda stuck.

I feel like my story should be more interesting and involve car chases and stuff. Actually my driving is a bit "fraught", but is also not really very relevant.

It's food (sigh, looks down at waist, which is looking back at me smugly). I'm not a fan, but it's kinda okay. Where roe is concerned, I'm much the same if it's good enough to be sold as caviar, though I'm still not desperately enthusiastic; but cod roe is disgusting. My gf's father used to like it. I suspect he only liked it out of spite because it smelt so bad.

The unfortunate thing is that the mean is often established when you're growing up and in your 20's, after 30 it's significantly harder to change your body. That said it can be done.

I was really skinny in my teens; slightly podgy in my 20s; then put on loads of weight in my 30s after I got depressed and did a lot of comfort eating. Now I probably eat less and certainly exercise more than in my late teens and 20s but my body seems to have decided it kinda likes being spherical. Did I mention it's a bastard?

Argh, bad memories of lithos being badly packaged by Treehouse in the days prior to their nice competent packer being appointed. I ended up with so many that had knackered corners and stuff, and a few that were totally ruined. Though some shipping companies (specifically DHL) were pretty awesome at destroying stuff that was packaged in indestructible packaging.
