#19761214 Trespasser needs a patch for crashes

Posté par Dark_Rogue sur 30 septembre 2015 - 09:53 dans General Discussion (NO Spoilers)

Snipped and edited.

Right, after extensive testing. This issue may be down to mods on my end, I'm not sure which ones, but I managed to keep the following and proceed through the eluvian with my full party:

  • ELEs Female Elf Jammy Retexture
  • Aged & Blackened Staves
  • Fall Damage Nullifed
  • Conversation Camera Zoom
  • Long waves hairstyle
  • No Dirt Buildup
  • Spirit Blade Recolour
  • HD Eye Textures
  • Lushlashes

I had some extra hairs in my patch folder but I never disabled them, so they were removed along with the companion retextures (since they don't show up anyway it's a waste of time using them, IMO)

Also, not sure if this helped but try it if you're running out of ideas:

  • I still had all my resolution and graphics dropped before I passed through, then made a new save on the other side and bumped everything back to what it was
  • I also used mouse and keyboard when going through, gonna swap back to my controller again now though.
  • I removed the 60FPS fix before going through, again, going to set that back.

What a mess! Hopefully this helps others struggling with this issue :D

Solas wound up wearing all the plaidweave outfits in my first playthrough because I figured he wouldn't mind since he's a dork.  I felt bad inflicting plaid on Vivienne or Dorian.  I could just imagine the "Greatly Disapproves" pop-up.

And in my second playthrough with Adaar, Solas still gets the plaid.  Because punishment plaid.

EDIT: Really?  OK.  Punishment plaid coming right up!

Can anyone find the source for this?  I'm bad at tumblr.

I love how Blackwall is all slumped over like a child "But moooom, I don't wanna wear it!" XD

Negative. It's probably best for immersion if you manually remove Solas' armor before you talk to him in the rotunda so that he's "wearing" his own Skyhold outfit.

Never thought of that!  Thanks for the tip :D

My desktop wallpapers are set to cycle through my DAI screenshots, and it got to the Haven Fade scene and I realised something.  This has probably been covered in previous pages and if if has, I apologise.

Is there a way to change Solas's armour for the scene? I always found it weird that Lavellan was in her relaxed Skyhold pjs and yet Solas seems to rock the battlemage set I picked for him. Normally I wouldn't mind, but the clipping...*disgusted noise*

Good morning/afternoon/evening! Time for some art. :)

No, no, no! D:

Late response since I went to bed (damn timezones) but I wanted to comment on this picture.

Wouldn't this be implausible? (I hope I'm using the right word) I can't imagine an ancient elven god being made Tranquil and severing his connection to the Fade when he's survived for how many thousands of years.  Or maybe there's a possibility if he's weak, since he's been sleeping for so long and he could be overpowered.

This was buzzing around my head last night.  Any thoughts?

Everyone on AO3 has been very nice.  So have the folks on Tumblr, to my immense surprise.  And in the rare instance that they aren't, there's always this glorious wisdom, which I first encountered on Gaider's blog (spoilered for profanity):

Spoiler

HAH! Oh god, I'm saving that, I laughed XD

I seem to come across a lot of bits and pieces on AO3, sounds like the in-site for fanfics nowadays.

I don't have a lot of faith in my writing either. I have several fanfics that I started and never finished. I have writer's block at the moment. :(

Aww, same here.  I had severe writer's block before Christmas, thankfully finishing DAI has picked me up out of it, but I worry that I'm going to run out of ideas again soon...Or I just end up using the same style of words and phrases over and over again...

Yeah...just DA. Since I had an account there already.  Hmm, alright..maybe I should expand.

I'm on DA as well since I already had an account too! I occasionally consider expanding and publishing more stuff but I don't have a lot of faith in my writing, a lot of my things are scribbles that remain unfinished and I used to be wary of publishing anything that actually did get finished for fear of the dreaded trolls. Then again, you get them anywhere  <_<

I think I'm in the small bracket of "No-one really wants to read my stuff, so I'll keep it here." where it sits on my computer gathering dust.  Doesn't stop me from reading other fics though, some people just have more talent than I.  Also, I don't really write smut, I guess I'm missing out on a HUGE audience there  :P

On topic: Solas, something something...Gods...Dread Wolf...something.

Step 1: Write the thing

Step 2: Poke at the thing

Step 3: Despair at the thing

Step 4: Eat cookies with kadan

Step 5: Read the thing the next morning, say "F*** it's good enough" and release it into the wide, wide world.

That pretty much sums up my thought process when writing fics :P

Either that, or this works too:

I'd much see him surrounded by bunnies though. But I'm sure he'd love cats as well. He's the type to love everything, and I can relate to that. (If I had the financial means, my home probably would be a gigantic shelter/field for all kinds of animals in need).

Anyone wonder what the Inquisitor's Anchor scar looks like?

I think it would resemble the foci.

Maybe like this? (ignore the face and horrible rendering):

Spoiler

really wish they would have included the anchor marking on the ingame model.

I thought about this earlier...I always imagined a sort of scar, or burn.  But I like the idea of having the foci pattern imprinted on the hand :P

I'm glad I came late to the party then.

Discussion is fun and enlightening, arguing… not so much.

This is the main reason why I'm not active around the forums much, I used to be (before the big revamp) but after ME3 and DA2's endings, everything got really bad.  I just want to find a quiet place to fangirl in peace and discuss theories without being judged and attacked, that isn't too much to ask for :P

Everyone needs to learn to get along and take the sticks out of their asses *sings* "Why can't weeeeee beeeee friends?"

Interesting quote of Solas on the Qun from his Iron Bull interactions.

Solas: If your Qun is so wonderful, so fair and perfect, how does it create so many Tal-Vashoth?
(If the Inquisitor is Qunari.)

Solas: There are enough of them to marry and have children, like the man/woman we travel with!
Iron Bull: And for every one who turns out alright, like him/her, and his/her parents, dozens go savage.
Iron Bull: Most Tal-Vashoth are nothing more then savages. Killing's all they know.
Iron Bull: The Ben-Hassrath are trying to lose fewer people to that sickness.
Solas: It isn't a sickness. You are losing them because they see a chance for freedom!
Solas: And most of them are "savage", as you say, because your culture taught them nothing else.
Solas: They know nothing but the Qun. So even as they fight against it, they are guided by it's principles.
Iron Bull: Watch it, elf. You haven't seen the Tal-Vashoth like I have.
Iron Bull: Try watching a Tal-Vashoth kill a Tamassran and her kids. Then we'll talk.

I think he uses "savage creatures" as a snipe at the wording that they use to describe themselves.

I think most of us agree that Solas has many flaws and that they are part of his character. I think we are debating it because most of us disagree that one of his flaws is one of fundamental and unmoving racism.

I really like this dialogue between them both, Solas gets so angry, it's a real eye-opener when he's usually so calm xD

I always thought Solas's general dislike was towards the Qun and the fact that it strips the Qunari of their ability to think for themselves, since he's all for "freedom of personal thought".  Then again "God of Rebellion" could just be hard-wired into his system to go against authority :P

I think my favorite Solas' dialogue is: "But I am reasonably certain we are awake now..."

Just the way he says it makes me tingle ahaha  <3

I'm due for a DAI replay, but when does he say that?  I can't seem to recall it.

I can't even think about the fact that he's afraid of dying alone anymore. It sets off the hellspiralling like nothing else.

I also feel a little bit like maybe he decided not to tell Lavellan who he was because living apart from her in a world where she still loves him is ultimately more bearable than having her turn away from him when she finds out the truth.

Oh God whyyyyyyy?

WHYYYYYY?

Now I have this image in my head of him watching her from a distance as she carries on with her life and all the while longing for something he can never have...WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO ME?!

Spoiler

I do agree though, it seems Solas is a lot harder on himself that he should be, like he's not content unless he feels like he's punishing himself for his mistakes.  Then when he does feel happy, he feels guilty (and in his own terms "selfish")  :(

Thank you  <3 ! It means a lot to me, 'cause I've really just started writing fanfictions (this one is my 3rd), and I'm still a little insecure about my writing in English ^-^

Spoiler

No problem, credit where credit is due.  I never would have guessed it was only your 3rd fic, sweet!

Spoiler

I know Weekes mentioned K.D. Lang's Hallelujah, but her version does nothing for me.

I've listened too much of Jeff Buckley's cover of Hallelujah to fully appreciate any other version of this song anymore, they all sound bland to me in comparison to his version of this song, completely gut/heart-wrenching.

Spoiler

That's the famous song that Weekes listened to?  Well, a different cover but still...

I thought I recognised it!  A shame that whenever I heard it I instantly think of the Shrek movie, since that was the first place I heard it XD

Sorry, ruining the moment, I'll just be over here...

I almost want to do this just with Solas and Lavellan.  So they can have a universe where they're together.

Though knowing Obsidian, the PC in Pillars of Eternity is going to die in some horrible, traumatic fashion or something worse than death.  Maybe not.

This is why I have my Sims game...I regret nothing!

I also had a DA dream last night involving Solas, it was weird.  He was running from the Pantheon (who all seemed pretty p*ssed at him) and he was dressed in that fancy wolf garb I keep seeing in the numerous fanarts (the wolf skin cloak thing) I also got to talk to him, it was pretty cool.  I could have happily stayed to see how things played out if I didn't have to get up for work (and have a mosquito buzzing around my head in the early morning...stupid insects)

Lovely story! I've a confession to make. I never read fan fiction before this year. Now I find myself reading DAI fan fiction every chance I get. :)

I've been writing fanfiction for a number of years now, it's fantastic practice for when you want to branch out and write your own things.  Most of the stuff I write I always look at and see things that need improving (pretty much why a lot of my stuff isn't posted, I edit WAY too much) but it's fun to let your mind wander in a pre-existing universe like Dragon Age.

I have to admit, I was in a writer's block before I finished DAI.  Now I find myself writing a lot more across my stories, adding bits and pieces here and there.  Other fics and artworks help with inspiration too, I've read some amazing fanfictions that can rival any book :D

Things need to be lore-friendly though...I'm a little weird with that.  I've ended up dropping ideas that just didn't work because of that xD

I'll also add that I love writing about little day to day things and sad scenes...but I an my own worst critic and see the sad stuff I write as "too angsty" so I never seem to finish it.  Or I do and I don't like how it turns out.

No. I did serious adult research on this. Also Gaider confirmed it was Gravelle.

Then I stand corrected!  Thanks for the clarification, someone better hit up the DAWiki for the error :P

EDIT: I haven't played the DLC yet so I can't say for sure (my ears are tuned to certain voice actors now) but now we really need confirmation, I have no idea what's going on anymore!

They do share a VA.  Which I didn't notice until varricschesthair pointed it out on the Abelas thread, and then my brain kind of exploded.

I thought Abelas was voiced by a different VA...I always thought he was voiced by Mark Bazeley (the same guy who did the Male Sith voice in the SWTOR game)

Then again, I could be completely wrong and read the wrong thing xD

So if we get to play the Inquisitor in another game and there are more love interests to choose from, do you think your Lavellan would move on (like Shepard with Garrus/Tali/etc. in ME2 from Kaidan/Ashley/Liara) or would you have her keep searching/hoping for Solas?

As much as I would want my girl to be faithful...I don't know.  It would take time, but if the right person came along and they spent enough time together, maybe she would consider moving on.  I think it depends on how much time has passed and if she hardened herself off from the break-up, and whether or not Solas wanted to resume things.  That's what makes it so hard to say, he pushed her away but he still loves her, so it's a catch 22 situation for my poor girl xD

#18897206 Solas Thread - The Blanketfort

Posté par Dark_Rogue sur 30 mars 2015 - 06:14 dans Story, Campaign, and Characters

If you took Sera's introduction out of Dragon Age and applied it in real it would be so unbelievably offensive.

Sera always makes it clear (in both romance and friendship) that she can't see past the elfy part.  While Solas may not like the Dalish much he does respect Lavellan as a person, and respects her choices towards the elven gods and how she feels about her culture.

I think this is why my Lavellan and Sera didn't get along at all.  I imagine it's the same for the majority of Dalish Inquisitors who RP'd themselves like traditional elves.
