#18122412 So Blackwall Is...(Spoilers)

Posté par oceanicsurvivor sur 18 décembre 2014 - 12:26 dans Story, Campaign, and Characters

He may have atoned for his betrayal and the murders, but what upset me/my Inquisitor was his irresponsibility with the wardens. He kept talking about how the Wardens are just a promise etc, because he didn't know about how they are REALLY needed to end a blight. His misinformation could have had horrific implications, and was generally absurdly arrogant and irresponsible. Yes, he was a traitor who murdered people, but even if you get past that the lie he perpetuated was harmful in many ways. So I kept him around, knowing he would be sent to become a Warden afterwards. I hope(d) he would survive the Joining just so he could learn how wrong he was about the Wardens significance.

Don't get me wrong though, he's a great character :)

#17953049 Not enough story sidequests, if any. I blame camera work.

Posté par oceanicsurvivor sur 03 décembre 2014 - 10:28 dans General Discussion (NO Spoilers)

I get why its a problem, since every scene would haveta be programmed for both Qunari and dwarven Inquisitors, which coulda been a problem, but yeah, I wish that each area had had just one overarching narrative with a cutscene/story. Some areas I wasn't entirely sure why I was going there. It would have been nice to have one cutscene dedicated sidequest as the 'icing' for each area. Like

Spoiler
, just something to make one quest stand out above the rest in each area, to give it a more central purpose. However, talking to companions and advisors in that 'in-game' way was sad, not personal enough for that bunch, ya know?

#17952934 The Bug Thread

Posté par oceanicsurvivor sur 03 décembre 2014 - 10:08 dans Feedback & Suggestions

Ps4 physical copy if that'd make any difference

Banter barely happens, they sometimes seem to talk way quieter then everything else in the world too? I have the tv cranked and sometimes their voices just come out in whispers.

I'm a human female mage and my left Battlemage shoulder pad always hovers a foot like, up and behind my character in all the cutscenes. Real bummer too since its such a sweet look, but it made the story totally ridiculous so I can't wear them :(

Dialogue wheel won't show up, you haveta skip dialogue to get it to work. One time hitting skip wouldn't even work, even though the game wasn't frozen.

I'm not sure some of the tarrot cards are working properly? Once you hit a certain level of friendship/respect/approval they change yeah? Cassandra's never did, even though I got her sidequests done and she was calling me friend by the end. Despite calling me friend Solas's sidequest never triggered I don't think. This could all just be me being misinformed though? I'm sorry that I'm unsure.

Some crafting schematics are messed up. A couple pieces of mage gear/weaponry that should have given me a bonus to willpower and magic were instead showing up as a dexterity and cunning bonus.

Definitely having this bug too. 50 hours in, ps4. The lack of banter was probably my biggest complaint, glad to hear its a bug that can hopefully be fixed!

#17475043 Could we please see more of the Lady Inquisitor?

Posté par oceanicsurvivor sur 10 octobre 2014 - 04:37 dans Feedback & Suggestions

That's really exciting! Thank you for the screen cap Lady Nuggins! There will always be people who hate on options like this being available, but I think the people options like this helps represent, particularly non-binary individuals is really great. I still will always wish that voices weren't tied to certain body types, but these are all positive steps ins the right direction, in my opinion at least.

#17412615 Livestream of Character Creator & New Area on Monday, Sept. 29!

Posté par oceanicsurvivor sur 30 septembre 2014 - 10:02 dans General Discussion (Spoilers)

I edited the main theme song in the stream video, made it a whole and uploaded it to youtube if anyone wants to hear the whole song.

Not entirely on topic, but where is that picture from? (the whole cast pic/ expanded cover)

The character creator totally has me freaking out. It looks so pretty. I will lose days to it before I even start playing.

Well, I hate that more than Blurred Lines but less than the right wing of congress.

If that helps you zero in any.

Ah, the old hetdemaromansexleangreyaseual preference. I can't imagine why you don't just go by that, because that's clearly not a forty-five minute conversation waiting to happen.

Is there a name for how I self-identify? I'm a person of the male sex who is only romantically and sexually attracted to persons of the female sex, but who feels like he should have been born a woman and considers his (Spirt? Soul? Sense of Self?) to be female but has zero interest in the idea of dressing in women's clothing or any kind of operation. I just feel like I was born as the wrong sex.

And I'd like to thank Bioware for having this forum. I've never actually said(typed) any of that outside of my own head before.

There are lots of potential names for how you feel RevilFox. :) This is obviously a very personal matter though. Please feel free to pm me if you want or need someone to chat with.

#17288958 Romances in Dragon Age Inquisition

Of course you don't have any idea what it has to do with anything, because taking the moral high ground without any consideration whatsoever feels good, doesn't it? Means you don't have to read.

The popularity of the mod doesn't imply anything. It only states one obvious fact, that people like it. And talking about how something looks better a different way doesn't imply anything more than the obvious, that an individual thinks it does.

The only thing you do is paint them as the bad guys and almost call them racist because you think an object that is representative of a minority should be more important than it actually is. It doesn't work that way and personally I think it's offensive.

Given that Fair skinned Isabela is the second most downloaded mod on nexusmods I think it does have social and cultural implications. Even moreso when people come here to discuss how much prettier characters look with those changes, and how various women characters need those changes to be sexy or desirable. None of those choices exist in the pure vacuum you seem to want them to.

I have zero idea what the color of your house has to do with anything and frankly I think your entire post is filled with absurdities that have very little to no bearing on anything in my post. And again, if you feel like engaging further, take it to PM.

For real this is OT.

@oceanic

I disagree 100%

There are no social and cultural implications in something that was modified for personal use. If I want to make a mod that allows me to drop a nuclear bomb in the capital of Orlais doesn't imply that I spread the message that it's good to be a terrorist.

Should I stop painting my house white as well cause black people will take offense? That's what these characters are. Objects with a predetermined behavior. Their value is subjective and only relevant to the person that makes use of them. Being lifelike doesn't make them any more real than they are.

The social implications apply only when something is in a position to influence.

Given that Fair skinned Isabela is the second most downloaded mod on nexusmods I think it does have social and cultural implications. Even moreso when people come here to discuss how much prettier characters look with those changes, and how various women characters need those changes to be sexy or desirable. I really see no difference ether way it's still incredibly disrespectful to both the character and the artist or artists behind them.

making a straight character gay is just as disrespectful as making a gay character straight.

I'm going to assume your eyes glazed over on my post before you got to the part about corrective rape then. :)

And I think we are officially OT. So if this needs to go further, PM me.

So the hundred of millions of people who tan themselves through comsetics, solarium or just the sun,  trying to make their skin look darker are just a imagination? You know, there are also entire companies build around to make the skin look "less white". (they mentioned solariums or cosmetics like tan accelerators)

Yeah, if you really can't understand how thats fundamentally different in our society, I really doubt I can help you.

But here

#17288613 Romances in Dragon Age Inquisition

Posté par oceanicsurvivor sur 08 septembre 2014 - 09:53 dans Story, Campaign, and Characters

If that's so, then this equally applies to mods that make characters gay. Are you willing to concede that's just as "gross"?

It isn't my favorite thing in the world. However, I do think that modding straight characters to be gay is different in some key ways b/c of the social/cultural implications. Real people of color have their skin lightened for magazines and are told that having lighter skin is prettier and better. There are entire companies built around convincing gay people that they 'should' and can be straight, and the idea of corrective rape is still prevalent in many many places. There is no equivalent in the reverse. So if LGBT people or people of color say that mods which perpetuate these concepts in the game upset them, its because those actions are only an extension of real world issues for them.

#17288440 Romances in Dragon Age Inquisition

Posté par oceanicsurvivor sur 08 septembre 2014 - 08:37 dans Story, Campaign, and Characters

You know, personally I don't care about this kind of stuff enough to have strong opinions about what should or should not be modded. I've never used a mod that changes anyone's race or orientation. Skin color is irrelevant to me, and I just play a different gender if necessary. However, what I am seeing is an attempt by a political faction to dictate how others may play their games, and to that I'm extremely allergic. People aren't racist or sexist just because they prefer straight romances and straight white male protagonists, damn it!

(Note: this is about the statement made above that mods that switch orientation to straight and lighten NPC's skins are gross. This is NOT about the way romances work in DAI, nor about the set of LIs therein, with which I'm perfectly fine)

I don't see how its more 'political' to ask that identities of characters be respected  . Changing POCs to white people and making gay characters straight even in 'just a video game' seems much more like a politically charged act to me.

There is nothing wrong with prefering straight romances. Thats why there are straight options. You don't like them, well tough ****.

Yes, yes, its your game blah blah blah. Its still racist and homophobic as **** when you get right down to it. And thank god no one will have the Isabela 'but she looked white before' bull to fall back on this time. You change Josephine, Dorian, Viv, anyone, its cause you couldn't stand them being people of color. If you 'beautify' them by lightening their skin <_< , its contributing to societies racist whitewashing of POC's. Literally that simple.

#17271091 To all critics of DAI's companion gender ratio...

Posté par oceanicsurvivor sur 05 septembre 2014 - 07:03 dans Story, Campaign, and Characters

Im not getting into a debate about the absurd series of events this week.

Fair enough. However, I don't think you can look at the choices made in this game without understanding the culture and industry which created them. Straght Male gamers aren't victims. Is it a bummer, yeah? Definitely. And personally, I would have preferred the extra development resources went to other things. But the idea that this is punishment for SMGs or some intricate conspiracy from the seemingly omnipotent 'social justice warriors' as some have claimed is absolutely ludicrous.

#17271040 To all critics of DAI's companion gender ratio...

Posté par oceanicsurvivor sur 05 septembre 2014 - 06:50 dans Story, Campaign, and Characters

I have heard both sides of the argument, and my response is that both sides need to get over themselves.

Perhaps its not, but making one of the groups feel like victims and telling them they deserve it is not how you heal this problem. It just re-opens the wound.

Yeah...the people getting rape threats don't need to get over those. They have every right to be pissed the **** off. The people angry at these women for giving their opinions and therefore making rape threats, I agree, they need to get over themselves. And maybe cancel their internet service.

Male gamers aren't victims here. I don't get anything from the extra two romances either. Its kind of a bummer but it hardly makes me a victim. Lets look back to my first point. The only people who are victims in gaming this week are those being harassed by the threat of rape and death.

#17271019 To all critics of DAI's companion gender ratio...

Posté par oceanicsurvivor sur 05 septembre 2014 - 06:41 dans Story, Campaign, and Characters

Because this is not, and never was, about whether or not female gamers should be acknowledged. They should. Any half-wit knows this.

Its about fixing problems with equality, not "fixing problems" by transferring them to a different group.

This is maybe not the week to say that all the half-wits know female gamers need acknowledgement. Since, if you pay any attention to gaming media atm it's pretty clear we still are largely not welcome here.

I'm not saying that is why there are more straight female options, but acting as if that equality bridge  with the genders in gaming has already been crossed is not really helpful or productive either.

#17270996 To all critics of DAI's companion gender ratio...

Posté par oceanicsurvivor sur 05 septembre 2014 - 06:29 dans Story, Campaign, and Characters

I'm not so much a critic of the disparity so much as I am a critic of the reasoning behind it.  If BioWare just gave more options to straight females because...."eh, seemed like a good idea at the time", then fine, I'm cool with that.  But from what Allan Schumacher said in the Mike Laidlaw thread, it almost feels like BioWare specfically did this to get back at the Straight White Man.  Which is just beyond ridiculous.  That's the vibe I'm getting anyway.  If that isn't the reason why they did it, then feel free to disregard this entire post.  But I'm cautious all the same.
1395339064297.png

Lol, seems to me like the people who bust out the custom graphics are the ones who need to be reminded that Bioware isn't here coddle their world views.

I like a lot of the companions. I'm still not wild about the gender gap in them. Yes, Leliana and Josephine are there and they look awesome. But the people I will be traveling with and hearing banter from are still the most important to me and to many gamers.

I'm much happier with the split on the MP characters however :)

I really don't like those armors at all sorry. Overall, I like the style of clothes and armor we have seen for the Inquisition, and I hope Bioware sticks with it.

Now, in terms of compromise, what I would like to see, is the introduction of color 'dyes' for crafting. Similar to how you could spray paint Commander Shepards armor any color you wanted. This way, if you want your character to run around in bright pink, then you can. And I can stick to blacks/greys/blues, and Brass_Buckles can have earth tones. And everyone else can accent everything how they want too.

Absolutely :) At least twice, thanks to the multiple VA's. I want to romance Cass and possibly Dorian. But that will definitely be after I've beaten in two or three times with female Inquisitor :)

Sooo.....from what I understand , the british voice for female Inquistor is the same who did Samantha Traynor . And the american one is the same who did Nyreen (Aria gf) .

So which one you gonna pick and for whom ? I'm going American one for my Qunari  and my Elf! And Maybe leave the British traynor for Mage and Warrior ? Wonder how that will sound on a dwarf  ^_^

I did not realize just how entirely gay their collective Mass Effect history was. :o

This is oddly delightful.

Actually it does quite well.

The Witcher simply isn't a politically correct game that strives to please all the minorities that play it.

It's realistic. Women didn't widely join the military until our days. There's a reason Ves is the only woman in the Stripes.

If you prefer GURL POWER ( Aveline still provokes cringes ) and forced political correctness over realism then by all means, play Dragon Age.

Ah, yes, I remember when the men fought the dragons. Henry the 8th was still was still married to Anne Boleyn then. Good times. Shame he had to kill her for conspiring with the elves-HEY WAIT A MINUTE.
