#17861294 Casual player-question (I do not like fighting much)

Posté par Malu Cap sur 24 novembre 2014 - 11:40 dans General Discussion (Spoilers)

The combat is difficult/annoying for a few reasons

-The companion AI is terrible and requires micromanagement in a lot of fights. Your ranged people will stand there in a dragon's face and not fall back to a safe distance, they can't seem to decide on a target and in one specific fight I had Cole, Cassandra, and IB running back and forth between two lesser enemies (who were on opposite ends of the battlefield) as a group attacking one and then attacking the other no matter how many times I switched to tactical mode and moved them/assigned them to attack the more powerful enemy in the middle, they would run off and start their dance between the weak ones (which kept appearing until the strong one was killed) right after. They also will often forget to use potions and require you to switch to them and do it manually.

-You can't set tactics like you could in previous games

-There's a LOT of combat

-You can't change your mapped abilities in the middle of combat and you can't use the radial menu to use other abilities anymore

-No healing magic and extremely limited potions

-When trying to target something on a higher elevation with certain types of spells, the spell wouldn't just pop up the cliff, you had to trail it around a hill or path like you were walking instead of aiming something.

-You also can't change weapons or equipment during combat...I hope your melee fighters don't need to attack something on an unreachable platform because that emergency bow will do you no good. <_<

-It seems like there are fewer abilities and spells than previous games (the "upgrades" pad out the skill trees and make it seem like there are more but...)

It's worth playing for the story, characters, role playing, and beautiful environments but I absolutely hate the combat. My advice is to keep it on the casual setting, bring a lot of warriors and one mage, and try to keep yourself overleveled. That way you wont have to take much notice of it most of the time.

I agree. One of the reasons why I play on casual is because I don't like to micromanage much, and with RPG games, specially for those with parties, the higher the difficulty level, the more you need to micromanage. With the tactics for previous DA games, you could pretty much program them and that eliminates the micromanagement for casual players.  This is not the case for DAI, even on casual mode. But I still highly recommend it because of all the things Nefla mentioned.

#5264240 Main Character Slow Animation Bug

Posté par Malu Cap sur 20 mars 2011 - 10:13 dans Xbox 360 Technical Support

I have this bug as well, and I'm already in Act 3, a significant portion of Act 3 and it's caused me to shelve my rogue PT. I do hope Bioware releases a patch soon and that it can correct existing bugged saves not just prevent them from occurring in future ones, otherwise that's a lot of game hours out the window. For now I'm just going to start a new PT with a different character wait till the patch arrives.

Bioware please fix this bug soon, for the love of kittens and all, because it's a real game breaker.

Merril: Isabela said the next time we were here she'd teach me how to do a body shot.

I also love how Varric calls Merril "Daisy" and Isabela calls her "Kitten".

If you bring Anders, Fenris & Sebastian when you talk to the Viscount's seneschal....

Anders: The Hanged Man?
Fenris: The Hanged Man.

Can anyone tell me what he is supposed to say during this scene if you did everything right, including the spoilerific thing? Because he declared his love for Hawke and all that and she accepted, but all I got during the gallows scene was "In another life, you and me... Let's not dwell on that."

What the hell? Where'd that marriage proposition of yours go? :/ I think I might've messed up, or at least I hope I did because that would be very lazy writing and a weird retcon.

This.  I thought that the ending to his chaste romance was marriage?

I sided with the smugglers & during act 1 the side quests mostly came from them, so yeah I guess the group you side with is the one who'll give you quests.

I'm not complainging honestly.
All ive seen is speculation, no actual confirmation. The Screenshots are said to be shopped, theres no video yet - ((that i could find)) DA2 Wiki says they're all bi- then individual articals say nothing.

Its a giant pool of obtuse info to wade through.
Was only asking if anyone had done it themseleves :D

I'm just a few hours into my playthrough, but I have seen a video confirming M/M for Anders.  I just don't know if it's okay to post the link here....

/OT Before the game came out I was kinda meh about Merrill, but after meeting her in the game... I just find her so freaking adorable.  She's such a goober, and I know not everyone likes the dorky LI, but I happen to like dorkyness :D

I've seen the M/M Anders . I've seen isabella/mhawk/fhawk. I've seen Merrill/mhawk.  I've not seen Fenris with anyone, nor can i find Merrill/Fhawk . Getting a bit '...weee SURE they're all bi?"

Still hoping.

Okay my first post disappeared <_<

Anywhoo, I have seen the Fenris video with M Hawke.  Enjoy

Aren't the strategy guides also filled with spoilers?  Maps and NPC names and the like?

If so, then I never want to look at one.  But if not, I'm ordering one today.

Exactly why documentation is so poor these days. Why give something for free when they can charge $20?

GameFAQs is free and has been growing in popularity over the years...strategy guides are a big waste of money.

Just to put things into context.  Between the manual and the strategy guide, the latter contains more information than the former, which was what I was driving at (hence better).  That being said, strategy guides do contain spoilers (specially the walkthrough portion).  For me I find the list portions (i.e. talent, bestiary etc) helpful.  Unfortunately not all free, online FAQ's/guides contain those lists, they are more of walkthroughs (like IGN's for instance)

Thunderblazex has hit a valid point though.  I think the reason documentation in free manuals has become shoddy is because from a business standpoint you can put it in a 'strategy guide' and sell it for additional bucks.  That's my two cents.

#4963620 Quality of Manual

Posté par Malu Cap sur 05 mars 2011 - 01:05 dans General Discussion

I find that most game manuals have gotten thinner in size in content.  The official strategy guides are more helpful IMO, but then that's a separate purchase <_<

It would be nice though if developers would come out with more comprehensive manuals in digital format.  Gotta save the trees :D

To me that looks like "amends". Not sure what that word means but lets replace it with a word "compensate". It is basic principle of justice. Velanna was guilty and justice had to be done, and in Velanna's case it could be giving mercy to her in case she compensates and does not do it again.

Good point!  And I wonder if the new Vengeance could ever remember a thing like mercy.  However, I don't know if mercy and justice ever go hand in hand.  There is the whole atonement thing that I guess could blur the lines between those two virtues, but justice by its definition has no room for it.  Still, it's a thought to ponder.  He did seem to have a more non-violent view on compensation.

I don't know...I think justice without mercy is nothing more than an eye for an eye kind of deal, which is basically retribution or vengeance.

#4705597 Turning Positive Fantasy Into Reality

Posté par Malu Cap sur 16 février 2011 - 09:24 dans General Discussion

Well, I basically play fantasy RPG because it's a form of entertainment that helps me relax after a hard day's work.  The characters I create (my warden, femshep etc) are versions of myself.  Idealized? I don't think so since from a moral standpoint my characters share the same morality I have. The choices my warden made in DAO were the choices I would do if i were in that situation.  The same will be true for my Hawke.

I play fantasy rpg because I want to slay dragons and shoot lightning at fools from my fingertips.  Unfortunately, I won't be able to do that IRL since last I checked the only dragons we have are in Komodo & I seriously believe the Indonesian government won't be very happy if I start hacking them with a knife.

Is it a form of escapism? Perhaps, but then that's the purpose of most forms of entertainment.  I don't think it's got anything to do with anybody wanting to be skinnier/hotter/nicer/smarter etc.

I don't really see why Sebastian having romance content is any more unfair than all the other content that comes with him that non-paying players can't see.

It's not. Someone asked if he was romanceable in his thread, and the dev response was "Pick the flirty dialogues and find out." And anyway, DLC is plenty fair. Everyone has the opportunity to get it as long as they pay.

I think, and this is just my opinion, a lot of people deem a DLC romance as unfair because they feel that a romance is an integral part of the game play.  While I love the Bioware romances in their games & feel that it brings a lot to the story & RP experience, I don't think romance is an integral part of the game, simply because you can finish the game without romancing anyone.  So with that in mind, for me an LI DLC character is not unfair, anymore than a awesome DLC armor is unfair or an extra DLC campaign is unfair (i.e. Return to Ostagar, Soldier's keep etc)

That's my 2 cents.

1. Being a Hawke companion doesn't mean you have to stop being a Grey Warden. I believe I even read somewhere that there is a Grey Warden quest.

It's not that he stops being a Grey Warden, but if I recall, Grey Wardens are not supposed to become involved in political conflicts, which Hawke's story seems to center around. Although, it would be fun watching Anders break those rules. Image IPB

It's fairly easy to work around that... tons of explainations like the always usefull... you help me I help you situation. Hawke helps Anders kills darkspawn, Anders helps him do whatever it is Hawke needs help doing.

Our Warden ALWAYS seemed to be helping high powered political figures in DA:O... or fighting agianst them. The Arl, the dwarfs, Logian, the tower...

Yup, you even get to chose who'll be the next ruler of Ferelden.  I think it's more of Grey Wardens bow to no political power.  But I think they get heavily involved in politics.
