Vor, I really like the story this drawing tells :) Storytelling is so very important in making a drawing special. It was a good idea to use sharper rendering for your character that constitutes the focal point, and blurrier shading for the background. You will have to practice a bit, though, as the transition is a bit abrupt. A good rule of thumb is to work with sharp, well-defined lines in a circle around your focal point, and use loose strokes for everything outside that circle.

Keep up the good work! I can't wait to see your next story :)

Found a really great skin tone tutorial (at least for Caucasian skin), that also explains how colours appear relative to each other:

Looks good so far, Ceru :) Just one quick note: they actually have foot rests on the broom. That will affect the position of the legs.

Spoiler

I finished watching the second season of Daredevil, and OMG I LOVE JON BERNTHAL :D

Vor, experimenting is always good while drawing :) It will help you find your own style - which is basically the most comfortable and efficient way for you to bring your ideas to life. Glad this little section of the web is keeping you motivated :D

I love the colours, though. It's such a warm drawing, Ceru :)

As for skin tones, I think the reason why my portraits are soft is because I have a very light brush stroke. I never use a lot of pressure while drawing. And I rarely draw hard edges on portraits :)

Thank you, Vor :) Drawing is a skill, and will improve with lots of practice. Anyone can learn how to draw, and anyone can become skilled at it. You can certainly get to my level or surpass it, as long as you keep practicing :) As far as talent is concerned, I think that is related to creativity and imagination.

Abelas is looking good. When shading, I find it best to start very light, and then gradually darken. That way, I have more control over the depth of the shadows.

Keep it up!

Glad you like Ali so far, Vor :) Hope to finish the portrait soon :) Then it's on to Solas... dun dun duuuuun :P

Abelas' foot looks better now, not angled painfully anymore. Did you try to hold up a mirror for the drawing? That's the way to "flip the canvas" in traditional media. It'll be a good way to pick up irregularities.

The only observation I'd have is that his posture looks a little stiff. I am assuming you are working off a reference. Have you tried drawing construction lines over the reference? It's a good exercise for learning how the skeleton holds up the body, and how balance is maintained as the body moves.

Keep it up! :)

I think this is the coolest idea ever!!! I love how it turned out, Ceru, and am glad to hear that you have had fun working on this piece. The colours and the atmosphere you have created are awesome :D

Ceru, that crossover is brilliant! This is going to look so good :D I already love the colour scheme.

Alistair :D I am experimenting with a colour palette I have never used before. So far I am pretty happy with the way things have turned out from this point of view. I am also enjoying a custom chalk brush that I have gotten through ImagineFX. The entire set is freely available from the artist, Bastien Lecouffe Deharme.

Vor, glad you like how the final image turned out :) I was going for a stylized look to begin with, but I really didn't like it. It was not my style, and I wasn't happy with it. So I switched to the semi-realistic style that I usually adopt :)

As for Abelas, I think it might be useful to include some background elements, just to give the posture some context. I would also straighten his right foot, since the ankle seems to be at a painful angle right now. His left leg, in order for his foot to be beneath his other leg, would have to be at a sharper angle with his body. So, you would have to bring the leg closer, if you wanted to hide the foot. Other than that, I'm really glad to see you using construction lines. They will help guide you and increase your drawing speed with practice :) Awesome progress, Vor! Keep it up :D

Hehe :) Vor, nails are off because I always have trouble drawing them, and I couldn't figure out how to do it properly this time either, and I really wanted to finish this drawing :) So yeah :)

My grandmother used to draw flowers so beautifully, but I just don't have the patience :) Oh, well... I have Alistair's portrait to work on now, so that's ok :)

Ceru, your study looks fantastic! This kind of exercise will be very useful :)

Madame took so long because I just did not like how things looked. So I kept changing stuff about it. Until it somehow clicked recently, and I was able to power through :)

Said it before, but I love the hands. It's funny because when I see the picture I see the eyes, than the hand. The slight crooks of the fingers, it speaks a lot....

Thank you, Ceru! I'm so glad I decided to fully draw her left hand as well. It makes the image look more complete.

And, this image has been quite a journey. Started it in 2010! Maybe I'll post a process gif at some point...

Ceru, do you watch posereference.tumblr.com? They are posting soooo many awesome references there! You might find the blog useful, and might find what you are looking for.

Very hard angle you have chosen. I would tilt her head a little bit more down, but it's not absolutely necessary for you to do so :)
