I am playing right now with the Templars conscripted and I received those quests. I also was able to promote Ser Barris. At first I thought I couldn't, but then it worked when I had judgements in cue. The promotion scene popped up just before I judged Servis.

Who's Servis again? Did you finish one of the two MQ missions after getting Skyhold?

The only thing I didn't like was the combat.  I wish we could have been able to complete the whole portion without combat, but I understand why it was implemented.  Still, I don't feel like it fit with the mission.

Cadashian surface dwarves and Vashoth Qunari are the opposite of exceptionalists/supremacists. They are disdained by the majorities of their respective races and live largely in the shadow of the human/elven hegemony. Hence "A dwarf/qunari will stand for us all" is not a declaration of exceptionalism/supremacism but more of a declaration against it.

They are not parallel cases because the cultures (cultures, not races) from which the three different Inquisitors spring are not equal.
 
 

Honest question here, but can you clarify what you mean by elven hegemony?

Ppl are allowed to criticize a character though as long as they aren't pulling the "i wanna kill her ougk! I wanna pin her head on the front of skyhold gate!" or call her psycho or some other "names" without even knowing the meaning of it.

I agree.    I admit, when I first met her she wasn't at all what I expected, but I think that's a very good thing.  I may not a agree with her views on race, but  I find that all of the companions in the game have interesting issues worth discussing.  As soon as I finish up my human mage run. I've got a nice Qunari Rogue lady made just for her.

I mean, that's the over-arching purpose. But you can have a sense of moment-to-moment purpose if you roleplay.

 

 

Which is kind of why I love this game.  Don't get me wrong, I roleplayed with all of the previous game, but this one didn't make me feel like I was doing something wrong by giving my Inquisitor the kind of backstory I wanted to give her.  I loved DAO and DA2 and I was able to create characters that worked within the world, but I found I was having to change and fit my character to match the game which I don't have a problem with at all.  I don't mind linearity.  I started out on linear rpgs and they remain my favorite.  I never even realized that I wanted that kind of flexibility until I had it.

I thought I would hate the lack of cutscenes, etc, but I found it allowed me freedom without sacrificing emotion, strong characters and strong ties to the world.  In the end, everything's not going to appeal to everyone.  

Yyyeah, the whole "you people wouldn't even exist in my ideal world" thing is a bit of a problem, I think.

 

Also maybe an explanation for the nameless thing that has been bothering me a bit about the romance. Lavellan wouldn't even exist in his ideal world.

Forgive me if I make no sense  or this has already been stated elsewhere but..

Oh erm...feeling a wee bit shy posting since I mostly lurk, but I wanted humbly suggest this song (Fox Rain by Lee Sun Hee) for the playlist.  It's from one of my favorite kdramas, My Girlfriend is a Gumiho, mostly for Shin Min-a (love her and the heroine in that drama is pretty awesome).  But I find the translated lyrics to generally be applicable.  It's just a really lovely song.  

I have to admit, Solas's romance took me by surprise in such a wonderfully, unexpected way.  I had no idea who my character would romance going in and was pretty much going to be whatever fit.  I thought maybe Josephine, but that bald elf pretty much won out.

The twitch was nice but gosh the devs need some sleep...

I was orginally going to respond some things I've seen here because I think people don't necessarily understand some of the same stereotypes that apply to the white western women don't apply to women of color.  Kerry Washington spoke about this during her promotion of Django Unchained as a response to her damseled character in that it was acutally not a typical characterization for black american women.

 

"I know it's not the most feminist idea to be a woman in a tower wanting to be rescued, but for a woman of color in this country, we've never been afforded that fairy tale because of how the black family was ripped apart [during slavery]," Washington said. "I really saw the value of having a story that empowers the African American man to do something chivalrous for the African American woman, because that hasn't been an idea that has held women back in the culture — it's something we've never been allowed to dream about."

That being said there are caricatures that I belive Samahl was loosely refering to, i.e., the sapphire and the jezebel, I think those caricatures are what drives these fears.  If you've got time, please read up on them and attempt to see where those fears are coming from.  I don't think Vivienne will be "sapphire-lite."  I think she'll be interesting and I'm looking forward to seeing her character in action.  I would also encourage you, if you're at all curious and look up Womanism as a lens to understanding black feminist thought and feelings of alienation.  Not trying to be condescending or rude, just hoping to help.

My 'canon', I guess you could say, for DA:O is a male elf mage who romanced Zevran, but I'm REALLY curious how Leliana will be different/what she'll say about the warden in DA:I if she was romanced in DA:O. Also I can only seem to manage to play men personally, but I kinda don't want the canon history of my world state to be all male heroes/champions? So even tho it's not my 'canon', I'm considering creating a world state with a female warden who romanced Leliana.

 

Anyone else thinking of trying something new in the Keep that they didn't actually play? 

Umm, yes. I have never romanced Zevran so I will create world state where a warden has.

Me too ;_; Like I keep telling myself I have one in mind but in the end I believe it's left to how good we work in game. I'm just excited for all apsects of this game and not just romance, but I have a feeling that the romances in this game are gonna be the best in any bioware game, maybe any game in general. 

I agree.  I feel it has SUCH potential and I am so pumped and ready to feed Bioware all of my tears.  

Hello!  I used to be real active for a while then I got really busy and couldn't play ME3 multiplayer anymore.  I played only on XBox 360 as HustleRoseRei.  Now I'm switching over to all PS3 because reasons.  I've gotten Mass Effect Trilogy for PS3 though so if anyone wants to play I'm down (haven't gone all the way through it yet (again).  I also pre-ordered the white PS4 for Destiny because I'm  also vain; I like pretty things.  I'm going to join the beta too, but on PS3.

I absolutely have NO idea.  I still haven't decided if I'm a going to roll a Qunari Mage or Elven Mage (just recently settled on Mage, like a day or two ago).

I've decided to work out my Inquistor's persona and play the game and see how she ends up.  This is the first time I've gone in without a love interest in mind and just going where the character takes me.  I'm super excited!

It seems the number of people willing to approach me increases exponentially with the number of drinks they've had.

I know I wouldn't have been able to say approach without a drink or two or three.  The last time I got to meet someone I really respected and admired and I was sober and I couldn't even speak.  I'm still mortified.

  Had they made one of the non-romanceable male characters female instead, so there is at least one female character who's priorities in life don't include finding a boyfriend/girlfriend, it would be a non-issue.

I agree with this, but I also think that there's a bit more to consider.  Hmm, I think this is one of those issues of intersectionality where gender and sexual representation make for a complex situation.  I absolutely agree with you that the depiction of women always in search of love is intensely problematic and by potentially having all the women be love interests is subtly reinforcing this idea.

But-- when it comes to representation in media I can also understand the desire for EQUAL representation particularly when one's sexual orientation has been used, abused and erased.  I agree that women shouldn't be seen as objects only for romance, but I also understand that fight for equal options especially when the normal is that others have had more than you.  To say, "well, you've got x and y this time so and this other issue is bigger"  ignores the history that the marginalized group has endured and the reality of what it means to be both woman and lesbian.  They intersect as identities and is more complex.

I'm bi so I'm going to have the romance out of everyone.  I don't think anyone meant to be insensitive or anything, but that's just a perspective to consider.  Aaand I'm gonna go back to lurking now.

I also wonder why most of the interesting characters in DA are males. Outside of Morrigan (as fara s companions go), none of the females interest me.

This is the opposite for me.  I find the ladies to be infinitely more intriguing with each one feeliing like unique, and fun characters.  The guys are more or less meh with the exception of Solas.  I fully expect to change my mind once I play the game.  But it's ultimately about personal taste.

Blackwall's age is whatever, I just hope we get a hot cougar lady someday.  My one Warden totally wanted to lay her head in Wynne's bosom along with Zevran.

Same here.  I cycle between Qunari, Elven, and Human Female Mage everyday.  Then I begin to rethink the class and the only thing I'm not unsure of is gender.
