#20399407 Custom Content Challenge: July 2016: It came from Outer Space!

Posté par CaveGnome sur 22 juillet 2016 - 04:05 dans Custom Content and Community Expansion Pack

This gnome was working on a desert placeable crater, but RL knocked to the door and things turned sour... Now he knows he won't make it in time for July CCC. :-( But, work will resume after his return, and a crater you shall get... later August probably.

#20386305 Best graphics card for NWN?

Posté par CaveGnome sur 14 juillet 2016 - 01:20 dans General Discussion

I had Neverwinter installed with various graphic cards along the years. Nvidia MX300, FX5200,  FX5600, GT6200, GT6600, 7800GTX, 750Ti and a few ATIs (wanted shiny water so Nvidia bias ;-).  Old hardware still work well enough. One rig used a 7800GTX paired with an Athlon 4000, Win7 driving a 1980 X 1200 display with framerate always > 40 FPS. It pays to do driver archeology... Sometimes, old legacy drivers work much better.

@PHOD
That skybox is pretty good too... Does it come included in the rocketship crate ?

Will try building something for this one. Something to do with Spelljammer or Arcane Space of course :P

i like your last picture. Personnaly I would try blending the road with the forest with the idea to make road/trails less easy to find. Perhaps using lighter tones for mud.

#20264083 Strange skidding bug using keyboard movement when stopping

Posté par CaveGnome sur 19 mai 2016 - 07:59 dans Technical Support

Hmm, interesting approach to the problem.  Unfortunately, I couldn't find the "Typematic Rate Setting" in my motherboard's BIOS (Asus P8Z77-V PRO) and I looked everywhere, in every nested nook and advanced cranny . Maybe someone else that has the same issue would be willing to try.  I'd really like to know if there's a solution to this.  Thanks for your help.

I just downloaded P8Z77-V Pro manual. It seems you are right... No keyboard settings in the BIOS :-( These were standard options for years and years. Maybe modern uefi bios don't need then or someone decided it was out of fashion to tune keyboards... Or these functions are now hiden in special keyboard software drivers. Hmm... {puzzled gnome scratching his head}.

Wonderful work T0r0 ! Wish I could do things like that with shadows... Cowardly disabling them in most cases. I didn't know you could have them below zero.

Posté par CaveGnome sur 18 mai 2016 - 06:23 dans Technical Support

As you play with the keyboard, perhaps ratcheting up the key repeat speed can help. Usually, there are 2 or 3 options for that in the BIOS/Setup of your computer. First, press DEL or the appropriate key (F1... depends of your rig) just after switching on your computer to enter the SETUP. Look for the "Boot Settings Config" menu or equivalent. There is something named "Typematic Rate Setting", enable it. Now Select the max number in "Typematic Rate (Chars/Sec)", usually you can't go higher than 30. Now go to "Typematic Delay (Msec)" and choose the shortest time available (between keystrokes), usually it is 250 ms. Save and Exit your Setup, done. Let us know if this works.

#20239899 The Great Spelljamming Run to 2016 sphere

Posté par CaveGnome sur 05 mai 2016 - 05:30 dans Custom Content and Community Expansion Pack

*************************
*** GREYSPACE SPHERE ***
*************************
* Leg 2: From Kule to Raenei *
*************************

Log Status:
Still going. Comet tail debris heavily damaged hull and slowed us for weeks. Were able repair ship and resume trip. Ample air supply. Sufficient food. Raenei orbit targeted. Note: avoid dark side at all costs.

Next trip of the Spelljamming journey is shorter and should take less time ;-) In-between planets, we will show some of the add-ons made for the Arcane Space pack (CCC September 2013). These things are intended to replace original content in the pack (if you find'em of interest, of course). First, there are some reworked portraits for the Spelljammers and second, an improved Asteroid5 placeable. Old space wizard tower was transformed to a new lighthouse because, you know, Wildspace lanes are in dire need of such things...

ArcSpace_New_Port_01.jpg?dl=1
Aren't these ships portraits cute ? Last one is an original one (i needed something to fill a 3 X 6 catalog) but i will redo it too.

LightH_02.jpg?dl=1
New asteroid5 version. Could possibly evolve a little more (not very fond of the texture).

LightH_04_960x600.jpg?dl=1
Cloud island Omega 13.

Stay tuned...

#20238193 Custom Content Challenge: May 2016: Monstrous Commoners

Posté par CaveGnome sur 04 mai 2016 - 09:24 dans Custom Content and Community Expansion Pack

Old creatures, elder versions of our beloved goblins, orcs, kobolds, etc. would be great addition. I see a lot of uses for such new content: tribu chieftain, wise shaman, hermit, retired soldier... Older creatures often possess better skills or intelligence (they made it to old age), so it can help if you need a well-read one (scholar ?) to speak to your PC with better than guttural noises or bad common language.

At last ! Here it is...

You can download TSJ_HAMMERSHIP_MK2 at your favorite SpellJammer stop :

http://neverwinterva...hip-mk2-tileset

Some new pictures:

New_Ham_Metal_Cap_800x500.jpg?dl=1

No more empty structure under the metal hood...

Invis_Build_Help_02.jpg?dl=1

Yes, there is such a thing like an invisible build help for your invisible tiles...

Ham_Combo_03.jpg?dl=1

You got new space floating boulders: Molten lava type! Pure space-weathered rock boulder! Bouldering metallic boulder... and a lost strange floating chest.

@Drewskie:

Thanks ! Strangely, i am in your boat. Missed completely the SpellJammer campaign in its heyday. In fact, that's the advent of CCC 2013 Arcane Space that activated my Space + AD&D buttons simultaneously.

@Tarot RedHand

Good suggestion... Will try to do that. At a minimum, i will do a detailled Readme/Howto. I know how forgotten items in the Override can mess with other modules, but IMHO still the easy way to achieve a temporary texture change, and besides, this is only relevant to this tileset, so no border effects expected.

PS: Got a few rest days, so Hamership Tileset MK2 will probably launch next week. Added one or two things more (floating chest tile... :) ).

#20190048 Community Patch discussion and development thread

Posté par CaveGnome sur 07 avril 2016 - 03:09 dans Custom Content and Community Expansion Pack

Heyhey, i found a contender for "most obscure bug" report to date:The sky domes render at the wrong depth.so what that means is basically, they are rendered on a plane much closer to the camera than they should be, in fact closer to the eye, than many of the objects seemingly in front of it. while it doesn't overlap and block them, it still produces odd eye strain when viewed in 3D vision.haha, ok so here's the thing:i yesterday found out that it is now possible to render NWN using Nvidia's 3D Vision mode, thanks to some clever modders' hacks. And once you see actual depth information, some simple tricks like a physically too small sky-dome do no longer work.I know this is an edge case, no "error" in the vanilla sense, the sky-domes can be disabled, and i'm one of maybe a handfull of people to use this kind of setup for NWN, but anyway, would someone be able to make a sky-dome model 2x or 3x the original size for me (and the 2 other people on this planet, that voted for improved 3d vision support here: https://forums.gefor...in-opengl-apps/ )?That would be awesome.Thanks.

Great find Gruftlord ! I am interested in sky domes of diverse form and styles (look for my Spelljammer cylindric skyboxes for ex.). I can't do anything for Shadooows patch if it includes specific sky domes (or boxes if you are speaking Nwn OC like) but i plan to make real hemispheric ones in the future as a classic hack. it would be interesting to know what size is needed to give a convincing 3D feeling. In fact, I didn't know Shadooow's patch included any skyboxes...

#20188321 SpellJammer WIP

Posté par CaveGnome sur 06 avril 2016 - 03:52 dans NwN Spelljammers

CG WIP 11

Hello fellow Nwn SJ fans... Here is a bit of news.

I got a new job ! (less time to tinker but that's for the better, as famished gnomes are not that productive. no sir...).

- Hammership tileset MK2 is near ready. It was very time-consuming but it will be worth it when used with Alabaster Throne. I added a new invisible high rise tile whose purpose is to place flying-like creatures in free space. Very handy with void floating placeables too. This tile includes a "building" alternate texture (override folder) used to uncloak when building the area.

- Improved asteroid5 placeable for the SJ Arcane Space pack: I like the original (wizard tower build upon an asteroid) but it had various issues. I moded it and now the thing is reincarnate as a lighthouse !

- Illithid series helm. This is a work in progress. The squishy cephalopod throne includes a system to link multiple helms to boost the space mindflayer power and of course a protective spiked shell with metallo-organic tentacles !!!

That's all for now

#20187031 Chat Color

Posté par CaveGnome sur 05 avril 2016 - 09:34 dans Builders - Scripting

Sorry, i am not well versed in "GetPCChatMessage" and "SetPCChatMessage()" use. A good idea would be to filter the input to just get the PC talk. Something in top script position like:

object oPC = GetPCChatSpeaker();
if(!GetIsPC(oPC))
{return;}

If this doesn't help, don't despair, there are many great scripters (far far better than your humble failing gnome ;-) haunting this place.

#20186843 Chat Color

Posté par CaveGnome sur 05 avril 2016 - 07:52 dans Builders - Scripting

Maybe you need to extract a 3 characters string and not just 1 in the GetStringLeft. If you don't have it, get the Lexicon on the neverwintervault (there is also an internet based Lexicon). It is probably the best reference to learn NWN scripting.

Tiax's head based on his Baldur's Gate portrait. Tiax is a megalomaniac gnome, rogue/cleric of Cyric, who thinks that Cyric himself has chosen him to rule the world; Tiax can join your party in Baldur's Gate and also apears in baldur's Gate II...

Most excellent !!! I love megalomaniac gnomes... ;-)

#20150339 Favorite Henchman Module(s)?

Posté par CaveGnome sur 17 mars 2016 - 06:32 dans Modules

One of my favorites is the Madness and Magic henchie. Why? 'cause I love cats and this companion reacts to a lot of things and adapt all along the game. According to your actions, you will forge a powerful ally or a mischievous dangerous beast... and you can buy special custom items to boost his powers. Not to forget the great dialogue. This was one of the very few modules making me sad at the end, because finishing the game ended a credible friendship with a fun colorful character.

#20108820 Hill's Edge

Posté par CaveGnome sur 27 février 2016 - 10:30 dans Persistent Worlds & Multiplayer

You can help me build on Hill's Edge if you want? I think the biggest challenge when building is to capture a feeling and to make it appear realistic. I think anyone can be a good builder, but it's important to know that it takes a LOT of time. Only the kitchen area above took me two or three hours effective time. :)

Your kitchen is wonderful ! I wish I could use 2 or 3 hours building with such a result... Luckily, the mere building act is satisfying in itself whatever the result :-) Agree with your build philosophy. Capture a feeling and make it coherent / realistic is key.

#20094908 NWN not playing nice with my AMD Radeon laptop :(

Posté par CaveGnome sur 21 février 2016 - 01:15 dans Technical Support

Hello Lilura,

In the link you provided there is this snippet "using a Win32 atioglxx.dll on a Win64 system makes the game unusably slow.". Maybe your problem could be related to mismatched 32 bit software.  Check you have a proper 64 bit driver. Also, try installing older versions (sometimes new updates dump old software support). Other bits like modifying the graphic options in your computer BIOS can help boost speed too (assign more memory to the graphic engine, fastest PCIE access mode, etc.).

Posté par CaveGnome sur 06 février 2016 - 03:55 dans Custom Content and Community Expansion Pack

We are firmly navigating the 2016 sphere and some of you are probably curious to know how this TGSJR thing is going. Well... Done some work and encountered various adverse currents, yep! Obviously, it is harder to push the Hammership MK2 Tileset to the needed level, than what i had planned, but still progressing. So, slowly going, seeing lighthouse, approaching port...

What have we here ? More pictures...

- 7 different loadscreens are included in the tileset package. Five are new. The last two were to be included with the original Hammership but never found their way (reclaimed from the Anakolia hak).

- Don't do that please ! You should not leave the helm empty... That's reckless.

#20055085 Tiny New Tool Released On Vault

Posté par CaveGnome sur 31 janvier 2016 - 01:13 dans Custom Content and Community Expansion Pack

Well done TR, this looks very useful. I can't give you real feedback for now (not posting from my usual Gnomeputers) but here are some random thoughts... Make batch work a possibility (using wildcards in the model name for exemple). And why limit the offset to 10 meters ? Maybe you can add a freeform input to let the user choose the desired number.
