#20428953 Film and TV (Spoilers Abound)

Posté par Aezint sur aujourd’hui, 02:37 dans Clan Zorah

It's becoming more apparent that the real problem behind the DC films right now is not necessarily the writers, but the WB execs themselves interfering with the productions of their own films.  The theatrical cut of Dawn of Justice was entirely on them, considering just how different Snyder's extended cut was.  I am hoping the big shake-up at WB might change who is in charge of how the film comes out, because there is a lot of evidence of drama involving the actual director's of the films not getting what they intended to make.

One obvious leg-up Marvel has is Kevin Feige, since he more often than not is the man to step forth and tell the studio to back off and let the director do what they want with their movie.

They claim a total wipe, but they said that about Legacy BSN too, though they might take it down too now.

That is a shame if true, considering I have a few items archived here I occasionally return to.  Oh well, like tears in rain.

Do you think this forum will still be here, just closed off, or do you think everything will be wiped completely?

I saw a special screening for The Killing Joke, and it was a mixed bag.  They prefaced it with a short on Mark Hamill's history as The Joker, which was nice, but it was nothing we didn't already know from him if you ever read or saw interviews on the same subject with him.  The adaptation was very faithful to the source material, almost shot-for-shot, but it did have a prologue about Barbara's career as Batgirl and her relationship with Batman.  I did not care for it, and it did not add anything of substance to the rest of the actual story.  I thought with this expansion, she would have played a bigger role inside of the story, but after the end of the prologue her role remained exactly how it was in the original.

Mark and Kevin, as always, delivered the strong performance we all expected, but outside of getting to experience The Killing Joke with their voices, it is exactly what you expect it to be if you are familiar with the source material.

I just returned from Comic-Con.  This was my first time, and unfortunately I was only there for Thursday, though we did hang out around the Convention Center for most of Friday.  Because we were only there for the one day, the only panels I got to sit in were Street Fighter, Call of Duty, and Gears of War.  As the panels went by, we managed to move closer and closer to the front, so by the time the Gears of War panel happened, we were third-row and at the center, right besides the mic they use for QA.

I met Brian Bloom at the CoD panel, because he is the lead writer and leading VA for Infinite Warfare, I told him Varric was my favorite character in Dragon Age, and he gave me happy thanks and we shook hands.  The Gears of War panel was by far the best panel we did, because it was Rod Ferguson, the co-creator of Gears of War and head of The Coalition, Liam McIntyre the voice of JD, Laura Bailey the voice of Kait, Eugene Byrd the voice of Del, and the man himself, John DiMaggio on the panel.  Although it was very informative and meant to build hype for Gears 4, the panel was very funny.  Everyone was joking about what they do and how it was recording the voices and getting into character.  There was a table read for one of the cutscenes, but they swapped roles, so Laura Bailey's Marcus has to be seen.  JD's name was a hot topic that everyone pressed on Rod for, because we know so far the 'J' stands for James, but the 'D' was supposed to be a secret.  Everyone wants to know whether or not it means Dom, but Rod did not want to spill the details.  It got the point that everyone, myself included, as well as Liam and John were chanting "Give us the 'D!'  Give us the 'D!'"

Spoiler

My little party and I hung out by the doors after the panel ended, and I met them.  I met Rod, and I told him I was a longtime fan along with my friends and we actually held a long enough conversation about the technical qualities of production and Gears of War in general.  I spoke to Laura Bailey, and she was very sweet.  I told her I just recently completed Tales From the Borderlands, and she squealed and told me that was her favorite game she did recently.  I spoke to Liam, I told him just how charming he was onstage, and he gave a big laugh and gave me a pat on my shoulder and said he hopes I enjoy the game.  I didn't get to speak to Eugene for as long because he was already talking with other fans, but I managed to get a few words with him.  I spent the longest time talking to John, and the first thing I told him was that he is always Bender to me, and he was happy to hear it.  And then we talked a bit more about his other work, including Adventure Time, and we took selfies together, and he took one of himself with my phone.

I got all of their signatures on my sketchbook.

Later that day, I explored more of the Exhibition Hall and I tried to tour as much as I could, but it was an endurance trial just moving through the crowd and booths.  I am very, very pleased to day that I met Mike Mignola, the creator of Hellboy and he signed an exclusive SDCC 2016 print of Vol 2. of Hellboy in Hell.  I shared a short conversation with him about what he does and what sort of insight he can share with an art student, and I left encouraged.  I asked when Hellboy 3 would happen, and he said that he was not holding his breath.  Oh well.

I met Bruce Timm, the heavy behind the DCAU, and I know I came off as starstruck when I met him.  I could barely speak loud enough for him to hear, and I think I came off as stupid to him.  But I got his signature, and like Mike Mignola, he gave me some words of encouragement to keep on drawing.

The next day we traveled around the outside and met a lot of other fans, but what we mostly did was go to the Xbox Lounge across the street.  I got to play Gears 4 again, inside the Exhibition Hall I played the mission in the recent trailer, but in this lounge was the multiplayer.  I kicked ass, unsurprisingly.  I also got to play Titanfall 2, another game I have high hopes for, Deus Ex Mankind Divided on PC, and Recore.  All of these games, besides DX were on the Xbox One S, which is still about a month away from release.  I skipped the Battlefield 1 demo to play more Gears.  All of that, by the way was to the tune of sea shanties, as they were also promoting Sea of Thieves.

I want to go back next year.

I bought a PS4, what is there worth owning?  I already own Bloodborne, The Last of Us, and Uncharted 4.  I intend to pick up Until Dawn, and Death Stranding when that finally lands.

I did it, I finally saw Zootopia.  I broke my rule of not buying movies I have yet to see, but I had a good feeling about it this time.  It paid off to the point that Zootopia may actually be my favorite film of the year so far.

I don't know, the only thing that I really responded to is the Tempest.  The shape reminds me of those old Nordic hammers, I like the look of it, other than that I still feel very impartial about Mass Effect.

Is that for to laugh?

Because that is what im doing.

Mortal Kombat may have better presentation, but Killer Instinct is mechanically much better.  The real joke is the recent Street Fighter.

Add Starro, and make him a ditto fighter.

Despite the frustrations that have occurs from Netherrelm and their partnership with WB, it is undeniable that they bring more life to fighting games than any other company in the genre's history.

Killer Instinct.

My top characters in Overwatch thus far are; Mercy, mostly out of necessity, but I have grown fond of her.  McCree, because I have a thing for Clint Eastwood knock-offs, and I am not even the type of player who flashbangs and does the fan the hammer, I can actually earn kills without having to do that.  Those people make the rest of us who play McCree look bad.  I am also neck-to-neck between Reinhardt and Tracer, as I have only scant minutes apart from each other.  Tracer is a lot of fun to play as, and being the player who blindsides a team with hit-and-run tactics is rewarding.  Reinhardt may actually be my favorite character to play as.  I am making Trump proud and being the wall for my team, and I get great satisfaction out of bashing in skulls of the really irritating players.

Edit:  Never mind, beat me to the punch.

I am hyped for Injustice 2.

... and of course, no PC listed. Because why make sure your game aren't ported in a p!ss-poor way, when you can just NOT port them at all? It's not like that many people play on PC after all, right?

Seriously, f**k you, WB.

Oh, and no Wonder Woman. In the announcement trailer of Justic League game. Nice...

Funny you mention that, considering fighting games do indeed sell very poorly on PC.  I am not agreeing with the lack of a PC release, but cutting a PC release altogether would be the pragmatic thing to do as a business.

They promised a bigger roster, so Wonder Woman is inevitable.  They also confirmed Gorilla Grodd and Atrocitus.

What is with WB games and PC releases anyway?  Supposedly The Witcher 3, who they very much had their hands in, turned a great port.
