Hello from the Solas thread. I came to find some happiness from another favorite BioWare romance. Has anyone found any recent Fenris+Fem Hawke fics that are 1) within the Inquisition timeline and 2) happy?

I get the feeling it's more or less short for "real elvhen". Considering the ancient elves and Solas don't seem to consider modern elves as true elves. Hence all of Solas' "my people" confliction. I think he sees Lavellan as an exception, making her "real" elvhen, and that makes him doubt himself. If she's real, then all the other elves he's written off as lost causes could be real as well. It could change everything, because maybe that means he doesn't have to go through with whatever he's planning. But he isn't willing to back out of his plans.
A few pages behind, but I 100% agree. EVERYTHING about his romance screams that he sees her as different from everyone else--he even says, "you were a mystery. You still are," and "you change everything," during that first romance scene. Lavellan is a mystery because she is unlike the other elves/other people he has encountered. In the second scene, when asks Lavellan whether or not her spirit (with hesitation in asking this) has changed since she received the anchor, because he's still trying to figure out however you got to be "you" and not like everyone else. Even before, when the Elvhen still roamed and he was not "alone", it's clear that he likely was alone in some ways.

I'm sort of seeing it going like with what happened with Morrigan. There can be a resolution to the romance with explanations and potentially the Inquisitor following after Solas and choosing to be with him, but in subsequent games they'll be separated for the good of the story. Which, honestly, I'm fine with. It's what headcanons are for, making up different things when the canon state of the world isn't to your liking. All I really want is for him to give my Lavellan an explanation to her face before disappearing. After that? I always have fanfiction.
I would be more than happy if they did something similar to what they did with MorriganxWarden. Even something like Alistair+Warden would sit well... But again, something more like Morrigan's bit would be perfect.
That would be really depressing. Also a bit poor in the storytelling department IMO. His romance seems designed to get the player invested, and to feel unfinished. Why include it at all if it's not going to affect anything in future content? Or why not make it more final? They could have easily added a romance option for one of the other characters, or left it out entirely and focused their resources on some other type of content. I find it odd that they'd write the Solavellan arc in unless they had the intention of seeing it through.
If they hand-wave it with a few lines then it will probably be the biggest let-down I've played in a BW game.
I agree with this. Obviously it's the sign of a good writer to leave the audience hanging on for the next few words, but they have made us deeply invested in this character and relationship... For them to toss it away for the sake of content, seems rather cheap. It's almost becoming too easy to bring tragedy or an unhappy ending, and more complicated to get a couple back together and happy.
Edit: Oh and... Oh my goodness. Viv has been a total b*tch to my Inquisitor in this PT... I'd gotten along well enough with everyone up until this playthrough. The way she demeans your character, her origin, and intelligence, and then have NO way to give her a GOOD line or two back is torture. I was so angry at her, I stormed out, back in the library, and down to speak to Solas... Of course his first words were, "My heart." Just like that, all the anger just washed away.

He's not super thrilled about KE because reasons, but you can explain and he'll chill out. He says nothing about Rift Mage. Necromancer sparks a conversation, I think but I could be wrong.
Thank you! There's NOOOOO way I'm picking Necromancer any time soon. I'd give you a like, too, but I've run out for the day. ![]()

I've been looking at the other threads and it surprises me (although it shouldn't) that some people actually find Solas boring or they don't like his voice acting. I guess you do get to know him a lot better if you romance him.
I'm a bit surprised, too... Solas has a very different and interesting perspective. And his voice is incredible. My first playthrough was as a human/archer, and even without the romance, I found him to be so enigmatic, that I needed to rush another PT to romance him. (Dragon Age has consumed my life, since it came out. :| )

Extract of the unfinished freso panel from tumblr:
Spoiler
All panels here: http://thedosianimpo...s-fresco-panels
The same tumblr has the bear & woman that people were wondering about as Fereldan art, not elven.
Elven art post: http://thedosianimpo...-a-i-s-ex-s-e-a
Fereldan art post 1: http://thedosianimpo...-a-i-s-ex-s-f-a
Fereldan art post 2: http://thedosianimpo...-a-i-s-ex-s-f-a
Elven mosaics: http://thedosianimpo...-s-ex-s-e-m-s-s
Stained glass: http://thedosianimpo...i-s-ex-s-s-g-ss
I had a question about the panel a while ago. Does this panel appear after the boss fight, or before?? I'm guessing it's before, but it'd be nice if he came back to start it secretly. BUT because he probably started before the boss fight... Maybe he thought he was going to stick around longer? Or maybe he'll come back and finish it (PLEEEEEEEASE BioWare!). ![]()
Me too, friend. Me too.
Thank Fen'Harel for autocorrect.
I'm gonna start subbing Fen'Harel for god from now on.
Another question, guys... I think i've read it somewhere, but I can't find it. This is my first playthrough as a mage (shocking, I know). I'm curious, which specialization does Solas approve of? I was thinking of Knight Enchanter... The other mentors sort of weird me out, haha.

I'm pretty sure it's "Ar lath, ma vhenan", and the subtitles are wrong. I say this because when Hawke falls in battle, Merrill calls him/her "ma vhenan", which means "my heart". Possibly the "you" is just taken out because that's the way their language is?
Or it may have some other meaning and he's really saying "I love my heart" meaning the mark his orb left on her hand.
I figured it out. Because "ma" can mean both you and my, and because of the way the sentence is structured, the ma is applicable to both parts of the sentence, to translate as something closer to "I love you, my heart," because it wouldn't be practical or probably correct to say "Ar lath ma, ma vhenan." (Although to me this would still sound juuuust fine.)

I knoooow! God, I hope I'm not overanalyzing anything. This feels like back when the romance options weren't announced yet and I was combing through interviews and stuff for any clues.
I mean, I know their plans are probably up in the air right now (they deserve a break), so I'm not quite sure why I'm doing this to myself.
Didn't we all agree on this? We're here, digging through lore, through interviews, fanfics, fanart, because we're sadomasochists, and they have created a truly wonderful character with so much depth that we can't let him go. I cannot even think of another character that comes close to being like that. I love Garrus, Alistair, Cullen, Liara, and (the list goes on)... But Solas is on a different realm.

*crosses fingers*
It's both sad and hilarious to me how invested I am in there being some sort of continuation of this. That ending was basically engineered to make me want to find out what's next. I mean, the character that I got the most attached to during the story first breaks up with me, then leaves. And just as I'm reeling from that, they drop that post-credits bomb on me and give my Inquisitor no way of finding out what I have just learned. Bioware whyyyyyyyy.
*excited squeal*
I don't want to get too excited.... but that smiley at the end... I hope they're just dragging us along so that we feel the pain longer, just to give us a nice little surprise with an expansion/DLC. I'd fork over my wallet without a second thought if it meant having a happy ending for Solas/Lavellan. They have both been through so much. x.x I've never wanted a happy ending as much as I want one for them.

Hi guys! ![]()
Looking for a little help. Fics, tumblr, and wiki are being kind of confusing... It wouldn't be the first time the wiki/tumblr/etc. are wrong, but anyway, here's my question:
What does "vhenan" mean? Is it JUST heart? Or can it mean "my heart" without adding the "ma" before "vhenan"?
Solas tells Lavellan "Ar lath ma, Vhenan." With ar being I, lath being love, and ma being you; adding a "heart" without "my" just loses something for me. It would make more sense if it meant "I love you, my heart," especially because after he tells you this, he calls you "vhenan," instead of "my friend" or whatever other things he calls the Inquisitor, whenever you talk to him.

So I messaged that guy on tumblr that did that impression of Solas I posted some pages back.
I asked him to do another impression.
He said he would work on it right away.

If all goes wrong, maybe we could all seriously pitch in, get some modders, hire this guy, and make our own happy ending.. But that should be plan Z

Not only that, but Solas goes on to say in the third romance scene that Lavellan is the "only one who attracted his attention from the Fade," or something like that. Though the meaning is ambiguous, I think that's for Lavellan's benefit. What we, the players, are meant to realize post-game is that he means somehow Lavellan caught his attention while he was sleeping. Add to that his loneliness, and it's no wonder he's so eager to pick up that relationship: he was already interested.
Edited to add: So basically the romance seems to be something he has wanted all along. If he figures out she's interested, too, well... from watching her from the Fade he probably already feels he knows her. And, again, he's lonely and may be more impulsive than he would be otherwise. It certainly doesn't take him long to say he's in love. If he were watching from the Fade, he could have already fallen in love by that point--but it would be super-awkward of him to just up and tell the Inquisitor that in the Fade scene, wouldn't it?
I always thought that when he says that Lavellan is the only one who attracted his attention from the Fade, he meant it as of the present... Like he could be spending more time exploring the Fade during their breaks or something, but he's more interested in her (even though when we first talk to him, he says he would never trade exploring the Fade for anything).
Never mind, you responded to a similar comment, hahaha.
ANyway, out of LIKES--but I appreciate all the positive theories you guys have, I'm just feeling a little pessimistic today, I think, haha.

Broody? Maybe. I tend to think he's more grumpy. How dare you shemlen wake him up from his nap?
Plus the whole "every time I wake up, the world seems more screwed up" thing. I think he's grumpy, too. I'm sure there's an angsty Lavellan out there, angry about Solas, that would be willing to help Abelas find a new name... and mood.

Many pages ago, I mentioned that I thought Solas was a readhead... I still stand by it, because of his eyebrows.
Annnyway....
I've missed a lot since I went to bed, it seems. Like... 20+ pages a lot. Not sure if I'll try to catch up on all of it or not.
Anyway, the redhead thing isn't because he has freckles, but because if you look at his eyebrows he has reddish eyebrows. Since they likely match what his hair color would have been, he's probably a redhead. The pale skin also suggests redhead to me--most redheads are very pale-skinned. Even if his hair were not red, it would definitely not be a super-dark color or his eyebrows' color would suggest such.
In other news, I was thinking--and someone may have already come up with this theory--it's a WILD THEORY and I have to share it. I'm going to share it in spoiler tags in case people don't care about my theories, but... it makes a lot of sense, and the more I think about it, the more sense it makes... which is kind of scary. (Though I still doubt it'll turn out to be right). So! Theory:
SpoilerAfter Solas finishes whatever he's up to, or begins it, or... whatever, he's got an extra god soul in him. I theorize that we are going to learn that the Dark Ritual was based on an elven ritual that enabled the Creators to be reborn into new bodies if one grew feeble/injured/ill/etc.
Solas, once finished using Mythal's power, may ask romanced female Lavellan to conceive a child with him that will contain Mythal's soul--obviously you can refuse to do so, and if you refuse, someone else may be willing. And you probably won't get the offer if you stand against him or don't talk him down from his Grand Plan, etc. So, by this point we will probably know who and what Solas actually is. It will most likely happen in post-game DLC, or an expansion (not Awakening style, but some other form of expansion, perhaps more along the lines of ME3's Citadel DLC?). My reasoning is that Solas and Mythal likely want Mythal's soul back into an elven, potentially immortal, body, rather than a human body. Solas will not want to carry Mythal's soul around after he's done with its power; he will want to give Mythal another chance at life.
One potential drawback to this is that it may be the final interaction for the Inquisitor and Solas. Either he'll die--probably murdered--or he'll have to leave in order for the Inquisitor to remain safe from the other Creators, lest they discover that she has Baby Mythal with her. A potential upside is that it could also mean that the Inquisitor is "siding" with Solas/Fen'Harel and Mythal, and thus Solas sticks around to help keep both safe. If it played out that way, we may even be able to get a happy ending, apart from the likely fact that the Inquisitor remains mortal.
The smuttier ones among you: This probably means that, if my theory is right, there would be a potential Solas sex scene, but only if the Inquisitor already romanced him, learns who he really is and manages to be okay with that.
Also, if I am right, it is why only female Lavellan can romance Solas, aside from his probably just being straight. Elven babies WOULD factor in. More specifically, elven god babies. That isn't why he loves Lavellan, as we've seen, but we already knew he's pretty much just into elves. But, storywise, if this theory turns out to be true... men can't become pregnant (except for transmen...). Still sad for the bi/gay guys who want Solas and can't have him though.
It also means Mythal/Flemeth remains around in future games, just in a different form.
Also, will be shocked if this has never been suggested, but a lot of the Solas/Lavellan fanfic writers could totally use "Hungry Like the Wolf" as their theme song...
I have never felt more conflicted about a theory before. I want it and it's brilliant, but at the same time, losing Solas permanently? x-x I can't... I don't know >.<

I have "Take Me to Church" on my Solavellan playlist. I think of it as coming from Solas' perspective though, since he's the one with all the built-up regret. Also the idea of a 'god' worshiping Lavellan is..nice...

The only thing I like about the angry one is that he says he can't tell her he doesn't care. It makes me cry inside.
Think about this too (though this may be me grasping at straws): He tells Lavellan "I love you" in Elvish, the language he probably feels more of a connection with. In the beginning of the game, he tells Cass something like, "Why should I leave?/ I keep my commitments". Granted he made no commitment to your Lavellan, not outright, at least. But by telling her he loves her, and she's his heart, in Elvish, that's him commiting his heart/soul/feelings to her, even if he can't commit his presence to her.
His love for Lavellan doesn't seem to be one of a long fling, or even passing--he just has to "set" things right, and therefore can't commit to her outright because, well, danger, etc.

I think it's approval-based--I got it with my qunari mage.
I think I'll headcanon it as, if he's talking to a non-romance character, that he belieeeeeeves in the Inquisitor. And for a female elf, he's come to fancy her (and believes in her, too, of course).
