#18739512 Keep not working since Beta signup.

Posté par PotentPotions sur 06 mars 2015 - 12:27 dans Feedback & Suggestions

Still doesn't work.

If you're still in correspondence, could you ask what might make your profile different than mine? :)

Before I give him a bug report on it, would you try going into your internet settings and clearing out your cookies, cache and temp internet files and giving it another go?  Someone else mentioned to me elsewhere that after doing so it did work since the patch.  Her problem turned out to be an old cookie from the old Bioware website that they've mostly deactivated.  He's been working on it for days to get this far.  I'd really appreciate it if I could let him know that we tried the obvious before calling, "Wolf!"  :)

AWESOME news!! Got a PM from a Dev today asking me to try logging in to the Keep after he did a quick patch during an update they pushed.

It works!! It works!!  At least for me, anyway!

If you've been having this problem also, go ahead and give it a try.  One favor - if it works for you now, could you please post an update in here so I can let the Dev know how much we appreciate him :wizard: , pretty please?

Thanks so much!

Well, cheer up!  I can confirm that the problem is definitely being looked into.  In fact, it's being very thoroughly looked into.  If you've posted feedback that you have this issue but haven't heard anything, it's likely because the folks that are doing the fixing are literally swamped with things they are working on and feedback from users who are assisting.  Once they determine exactly what's causing the issue, it will be addressed.

Keep smiling, I'm hopeful that it will be resolved soon!

:)

Actually, it's my daughter's profile that works on my machine, but my profile does not seem to work anywhere... <sigh>

Posté par PotentPotions sur 03 mars 2015 - 08:11 dans Feedback & Suggestions

I wasn't sure where else to post this - i've already asked about it in the Patch Beta discussion forum.

Ever since I signed on for the Patch Beta 6, I have been completely unable to use the Keep.  If I click on Log In with Origin, I get the login screen, I type in my info and I get the Account Verification screen, and then it goes to load the Tapestry, and... I sit there from three to five minutes waiting and finally get the Oops... message telling me to reload and try again.

In preparation for the Beta, I created a brand new profile on my computer just for the beta so I can set it up to run with nothing else out there to conflict, meaning that there are no temp internet files or cookies or cache to clear - though I did go in and do it just the same after I first got the error.

I have tried IE, FireFox, Opera, Chrome, even Safari and Maxthon.  Every single one gives me the same error and nothing else.  I have also tried on four other computers.  Still the same.

I tried logging in with my daughter's account - smooth as silk.

This  has GOT to be a profile issue, but I can't do anything about it for myself.  It was fine right up until I pressed the button that accepted the Beta ToS and the NDA.  From that moment on I have been unable to access my Tapestry.  Help??  Please??

-- Lis

PS - I had hoped when I logged in today and saw that my entitlements had updated and I finally had the correct access that the problem would sort itself out.  Unfortunately, it has not.

pps - I wound up here because apparently no one else in the patch discussion forum is having this problem.  Some have said the Keep is slow, but it loads eventually.  It doesn't matter what I do or how long I wait.  All I get is the Ooops. Since I also decided to start a new playthrough for the beta this really matters to me - the default World State for people who didn't acutally PLAY the first two games just frankly sucks as a starting point.  Fair enough if you didn't play, but I've played and replayed both prior games enough times to actually have an entire 500Gb backup drive full of Wardens and Hawkes.  ;)  Not that all of them are uploaded to the Keep by any means!

#18713420 Hinterlands: last lousy shard

Posté par PotentPotions sur 02 mars 2015 - 08:45 dans General Discussion (Spoilers)

Some of those shards were a real PITA. The one in the Hinterlands was the very last one I finally got. I succeeded only because I'm an OCD nutcase who went through a large portion of the entire game jumping around all over places where I was probably not supposed to be able to go just to see what would happen and if I could get away with it.  Actually found a couple of entertaining things that way - I suspect at least one was an Easter Egg for people like me...

I jumped around all over a bunch of cliffs trying to see if I could find a way over rather than having to backtrack and go all the way around.  In my efforts, I came down and walked over to check the location and happened upon a table set with a bottle of wine, some glasses and a tray with a large wheel of red wax-dipped cheese speared with a dagger.  It was lootable, so...

I look in my inventory and there's this shield.  I put it on Blackwall for a while since it had some nice stats for the level I was at.  I wish I could find the screenshot!  He's standing there with this huge wheel of cheese that's missing a chunk and has a dagger sticking out of it hanging from his back.  Watching the animation when he did aggressive shield moves was just waaaay too funny!

:D

#14939217 Problem with Toolset

Posté par PotentPotions sur 14 mai 2013 - 04:04 dans General Discussion

I'm running Windows 8 Pro x64, and no, it does NOT like SQL Express 2005. I fought with Windows for about a week before I hit upon something that worked. This was my solution, and it works without issues.

I'm assuming you have already tried installing the Toolset and therefore have all of the directories and files on your hard drive that it would have installed. For simplicity's sake, I'm also going to assume you are using your C: drive as your install location, and installed everything to it's default path. I'm certain if your installation is in another location, you can figure out where you need to go. :-)

First, download a free copy of SQL Express 2012 which includes the Management Studio. You will need it to hook up the database after you do the install.

Next, go to the directory where the Toolset installed SQL Server 2005 and the database files. (C:\\Program Files (x86)\\DAODB in my case.) Go down until you find the DATA subdirectory. It should contain two files, bw_dragonage_content.ldf and bw_dragonage_content.mdf. Go up a level, right click on the DATA directory and select copy. Paste that copy in a safe location you can find easily later. I put mine on my D: drive in a directory labelled Toolset Database Backup.

Now you need to go to Control Panel and select Programs and Features and uninstall SQL Server 2005 Express. I had you copy that directory in case the uninstaller cleans up that folder by deleting it. Don't do anything with the Toolset install. If it's already installed, then you'll be good to go shortly. Reboot if necessary.

Next, install SQL Server 2012 Express with Management Tools using the default settings unless you have a specific path, etc that you want it to install in. Just remember where you installed it. :-) When it asks you for a name for the database instance it's installing, name it BWDATOOLSET (that's what the Toolset names the default database. You don't have to keep that name if you would rather name it something else. I just found it simpler to remember that way.)

Once the installer finishes, go back to where you put that DATA folder and either cut or copy it then navigate to the directory where your new install of SQL Express 2012 is located. (C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft SQL Server\\MSSQL11.BWDATOOLSET in my case.) Inside is a directory MSSQL. Open it and paste that DATA directory inside. It will likely insist you grant Admin Rights since it's a protected directory location.

Once that's done, you need to start up Management Studio. Connect to the database. It should show you as connected (computer name, server name, version, etc) the first subheading should be Databases. Right click on Databases and select Attach. Click Add and navigate to that DATA folder you just pasted in. Select the bw_dragonage_content.mdf file and click on Ok.

The database should now show as attached, and you should see various subheadings. You can now close the Management Studio.

Navigate to the Tools directory of your Dragon Age game install folder. (C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Dragon Age\\tools) and run ConfigureToolset.exe. Give it the install path to your game and click Next. UNcheck the box that says Use the default database, then select the name of your SQL Server instance, then click on the ... icon and select the server name and then the database on the server. (YOURCOMPUTERNAME\\BWDATOOLSET and bw_dragonage_content respectively) then click on Test Connection. It should report that it can connect just fine.

Now you can fire up the Toolset. If it comes up but doesn't show any resources, (not unusual) click on File, Manage Modules and select Single Player and click Open. The Palette Window should now populate with the various bits of the game. If it's still empty, that's not uncommon either. Click on Tools, Builder, Builder to Builder Load, then go to your C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Dragon Age\\tools\\DatabaseUtilities directory and select core.dadbdata. When the importer opens up, click on Check All, make sure the radio button under StringIDs is set on Use Theirs, then click Ok and let your computer process the data. Depending on your processor, this may take a while as it's a lot of stuff. :-)

When it finishes the import, everything should be available to you, and the Toolset should work just fine. If you accidentally have the box in the settings checked that tells the Toolset to Check Out everything automatically, then you will find that all of the resources are checked out to you. To find out for sure and correct the problem, mouse over to the Palette Window and select All, then click the little triangle pointing down and select Only show resources checked out to me. If everything on the list is still there, then you will need to check everything back in. Easiest way to do that is to then check the Hide folders box, select a portion of the list (don't try doing it all in one whack as I can pretty much guarantee you will lock up your machine. Mine's a 8 core AMD monster development machine and it locked up when I did that on my first attempt... Just saying... :-) Right click on your selected section and select either Undo Checkout or Check in. Either works just fine. It will ask you for verification if you select Undo Checkout or request that you attach a comment to the files if you select check in.

In any case, that's what I did, and I can confirm that the Toolset is up, running and doing as it's supposed to do, it's just accessing SQL Express 2012 x64 for it's resources instead of SQL Express 2005. I've had no problems using it to create and share stuff. It rus cleanly under Windows 8 without having to use Compatibility Mode -- If you want to be able to save things in the Toolset or Dragon Age directories in the Program Files (x86) directory though, you WILL need to navigate to the Toolset executable file, right click, select Compatibility, Change settings for all users, and choose to Run as Administrator. Otherwise it will drive you nuts with errors that it can't access that location when you try to save things there due to the Admin Rights issues Windows 8 has.

There may be easier ways of accomplishing this, but this worked for me and so I offer it up for other frustrated Windows 8 users. If you run into any problems, feel free to PM me and I'll be happy to help.

#14900925 Citadel DLC - Post your feedback and thoughts here

Posté par PotentPotions sur 06 mai 2013 - 02:49 dans Story, Campaign, and Characters

I'm one of those people who plays for the characters and story. I have some fun with the combat and such, but I'm into RPGs for the characters. :-) That said, I truly loved Citadel. I just got it this week, and this past weekend I got to hole up with my PC and play. I did two full playthroughs. The first one I did on my secondary character since she was the one I had played last. She's a paragon adept who has carried a torch for Kaiden since ME1. It was a lot of fun, and having Kaiden come to my rescue, fix me dinner, etc. was really sweet. After that playthrough, I just had to find out how things would go with my "primary." She is a paragon (95% of the time at least...) infiltrator who is madly in love with Garrus. I have to say it -- I was already mostly convinced that Garrus is the perfect romance choice -- at least for me -- and after playing Citadel, I'm even more crazy in love with him. The date at the bar is possibly my favorite scene with Garrus ever. Brandon Keener is an incredible actor. That voice? OMG -- Hell, yeah, melt me into a little puddle as Garrus dips me deeply and...

I think I'm glad I played my alt first -- if I had played my primary first, I might never have tried out the other version. Kaiden is sweet, but Garrus just amazing.

Other thoughts? The clone plotline was fun. I really liked FemShep's reactions to her "other me" as things went along. I got some really good laughs at crew reactions to her comments and questions. "Do I really sound like that?"

It also really did make me misty and a bit teary-eyed in a couple of places when remembering lost friends. (I'm not going to spoil -everything- for everyone... lol)

I've seen a bit of commentary about how this DLC was purely "fan service" and really added nothing to the game. I suppose that depends on your play style. If, like me, you play for the plot and the characters and love the friendships and interactions with your squadmates, then Citadel is simply amazing. If you're out there because you play for the combat or just to "beat the game," and only do the plot stuff so you can reach those goals, then no, Citadel probably isn't for you.

Bottom line for me is that I loved it, and it made me feel a little bit better about my overall experience with ME3. I'm still not happy with the ending, but at least I feel like I got to tie up a few loose ends before that final assault. Thanks, guys. :-)

Oh, and the interactions with Zaeed were so well done. A really beautiful way to say goodbye to Robin Sachs. I can't tell you how much he will be missed. He's been such an integral part of so many BioWare games, I can't imagine how big the hole would be if you pulled his voice from all those places. Sleep peacefully, Robin. We'll meet you across the sea.

#14825486 What I would -really- like to see in Dragon Age 3 and beyond...

Posté par PotentPotions sur 21 avril 2013 - 12:59 dans General Discussion (Spoilers)

I was going to post in the Top 5 Things You Would Like to See... topic, but once I got going, I realized I had more to say than I originally thought, and figured I'd just put it here instead of hijacking a good topic with a really wordy post.

What follows is mostly just me on my soapbox, but I don't often slip out of the shadows to say anything, so I hope you will forgive me. :-)

**  What the heck.  I will throw in my $0.02 worth.  I will apologize in advance because I did indeed type this up in Notepad so I could see the whole mess before I posted it, and it became sort-of an editorial and soapbox speech by the time I got to the end. <grin>  I decided the points I made were valid, though, so I tossed caution to the wind and posted it anyway.  **
I've been lurking and reading what the other fans are interested in seeing in the upcoming DA3.  For myself, I find that one of the things that has made me one of the most devoted of fans has been the ability to alter my game through the use of fan-created content.  Dragon Age: Origins was ground-breaking in it's inclusion of a Toolset that allowed players to access/alter/create content for the game and then share it with others if they so desired.
When I first encountered Dragon Age: Origins, it was on the Xbox 360.  I had just gotten my very first DevKit box, and having fallen in love with the RPG genre (Oh, God I feel old now...) back in the late 70's, early 80's playing pen and paper games, I saw it on a shelf at my local game retailler and just HAD to have it.  I bought the Ultimate Edition, of course...  <grin>  After playing the "Vanilla" game through almost to the point of complete obsession, I wanted MORE.  I started hunting on the internet to see if there were other games related to DA:O or that were similar in look and feel, but, alas, nothing.  I then discovered the BioWare Social site and the fan modding community, and that was when I found that the Toolset was available to owners of the PC version of the game.  My very next purchase was an electronic copy of DA:O Ultimate Edition from my favorite online retailler.  I had it installed, updated, and had the Toolset up and running a couple of hours later.
Since that time, I will shamefacedly admit that Dragon Age has been rather an obsession of mine, and modding became something of an unshakable addiction.  I have actively participated in the creation of/addition to several (I think they are anyway) fairly awesome fan mods, and I have found and connected with other authors/creators of fan mods that have done and are continuing to do amazing things in the Dragon Age universe.  Anyway, the whole point of all of that was to explain why Dragon Age continues to live on inside my computer though many other titles have come and gone.  The Dragon Age series (and yes, Mass Effect series also -- I'm almost as obsessed with it. <grin>) is, for me ultimately -always- replayable.  It never gets old or dies, it changes and evolves and I'm continually finding something out there that sparks my interest in picking up my staff, pulling on my leathers, and daring to drink from that chalice once again in order to have the opportunity to listen to Alistair tell bad jokes and laugh at Wynne explaining to him where babies come from.
The Dragon Age universe is a pretty amazing place.  It's filled with stories and lore, and there's always another piece out there that sparks the imagination for someone and makes them want to add their tale to the world.  I am hoping most sincerely that DA3 will continue to flesh out that universe and encourage it to continue to grow and evolve so that I can drop in and visit and lose myself in the magic and wonder of Thedas.  Isn't that, afterall, why one plays an immersive RPG?
I will make an appeal to the Powers That Be (who may or may not even see my little soapbox sitting here - lol)

-- Please --
Don't do to Dragon Age what you did to Mass Effect.  I've never come out publicly before and said anything one way or the other about ME3, but I will state here that I can't say I've ever been that saddened and let down by a game before.  I had -so- much fun losing myself inside Shepard's head in Mass Effect and ME2, (and yes, I'm one of those crazy people that dusts them off and plays them over and over) then to have the story come to such a painful, tragic and final end --  I played through with no spoilers/cheats from beginning to end the first time -- I actually stood up from my chair and yelled "How could you DO that??!" at the screen as the final sequence played out.
I don't want to feel like that when I reach the end of DA3 -- I'm not saying it should have some sappy and trite ending or anything. (In fact, I would vastly prefer it if the ending were open for the series to live on) That would certainly -not- fit with the dark overtones of the whole series.  I rather expect "...all of the death and fighting and tragedy," but I also expect it to be laced with the light-heartedness that infused it's predecessors and made me keep wanting to come back for more.
As for -actual- content?  I would love to see some of the original characters return -- somehow I sincerely doubt that Flemeth will fail to involve herself in the telling of this tale, for example -- In addition, I would love to see Cullen, Jowan, Irving, Gregoir, Morrigan, Leliana, Sten, Anders, Fenris, Sebastian, Tallis....  The list goes on and on and on.  (Oh, let's not forget Varrick.  I simply loved his rather sarcastically humourous take on the world and would love to hear some of his commentary on the more interesting occurances of the game.)
I want better romances!  More interaction and conversation with your chosen LI.  There should be more to a romance than four or five conversations, one brief (and rather unsatisfying) fade-to-black roll in the hay, and then pretty much nothing but the occasional ambient line or conversation throw-in if they happen to be in your party to indicate they're your partner.  DA:O at least let you continue to interact with your LI, even if it was only a "Let's get some sleep" fade to black or a kiss.  DA2 was frustrating for me in that once you bedded your LI, that was pretty much it for conversation and interaction options unless somehow quest related.  I much preferred the Origins romances.  (And I admit it, part of the overall charm of the game for me is the social aspect of it -- I'm one of those that plays more for the storyline and character/plot interaction than for action or combat.  I do the combat stuff because it's a necessary evil to progress the story/plot. <grin>)
More personalization options for character generation.  One of the very first player created mods I ever added to my game was a custom character generation pack that added hairstyles, makeup, hair/eye/skin colors and so forth.  The original selection was okay, I guess, but rather limited.  For example, most of the RPG characters I create have long hair.  I -like- long hair, and to me walking around in-game as a character with short hair due to limitations in the character generator limits my immersion experience.  I would never choose that hairstyle personally, so naturally it follows that a character I play wouldn't either.  I think most people create characters that represent themselves in-game.  Whether it's a character that looks like you, a character that looks as you wish you looked, or a character you've created to be as different from yourself as possible, the point is that while you are in-game, that face is who you are, and being able to customize your look makes it lots more fun.
Decisions that matter!  One of the things I really liked about the Mass Effect series is how (if you started at the beginning of the series) decisions you made way back in the first game had actual repercussions in the events and outcome of ME3. What you said, how you handled people, what sort of person you tried to be -- all of it had weight.  That was really well done.  I've even gone all the way back to the first game and created a whole new character just to play through the entire series and make different choices.  (There's that whole "Of course I have to buy ALL of the games in the series - they're connected!" thing right there, if you're looking at generating revenue.  Just sayin...  :-)
A strong plot and good storytelling!!  You've got the wonderful Mr. Gaider there, so that shouldn't be a problem, but making sure the programming sets all of the flags so the plot hooks up correctly -- well, that's definitely an art form.  Fortunately, BioWare's software gurus seem to be pretty good at that one too.  I had to mention it though, because recently a game I bought for it's potential died a horrible death and wound up expunged from my hard drive because though it had a good premise, the rest just didn't live up to the hype.  It was very disappointing.
As for the rest, I'm just going to say I agree with far too many of the great ideas others have already come up with to list them all.  In the end, I am putting my faith in BioWare to put it all together and show me again why I keep spending my money on every game they put out, and why I continue to play them over and over.  I have no doubt the end product will once again include characters I utterly love and others I love to hate, and even perhaps one or two I want dead from the start.  <grin>  I have yet to find a BioWare game that I didn't ultimately find engaging in some way - I always find something to love about a particular game's quirks, though I will admit that sometimes it takes a little more effort than others.
Ultimately, for me, what would be whipped cream and a cherry on top would be for BioWare to release a Toolset for the new game engine that would let those of us who love Origins for it's mutability continue to do what we love to do:  create beautiful additions that add our own imaginings to the end product.  That, right there, is the one single thing that has set BioWare and Dragon Age apart from all the rest (and there have been many) of the games I have played/written/edited/developed over the last <shudder> almost 40 years.

As a fantasy fiction writer, there was sometthng about the storyline in Dragon Age that captured my imagination and tugged at my heart.  Then, when I discovered that BioWare had provided the tools that would allow me to not only write fiction placed in the Dragon Age universe, but to make it actually live and breathe inside the game, I was hooked.  I'm not even going to comment on how much time I've spent inside that world or on how much money I've spent on BioWare products since then. (Though I will note that DA:O was my first BioWare game, and now I own them all AND all of the commercial DLC)  I know I am not the only one out there who loves the development aspect available to them thanks to whomever it was who made the decision to release the Toolset -- The BioWare Social website is littered with all sorts of ongoing projects and the fan-sites housing content are pretty much innumerable -- and I forsee at least equal devotion to future installments in the series should they prove as well done and enjoyable as the first.  Just reading the "Top 5 Things You Would Like to See..." topic before posting has given me enough fuel that I could probably write a whole new chapter in the ongoing story of Thedas, the Grey Wardens and the ongoing struggles of all of the factions who continue to fight for their right to exist.
I suppose that was rather more that $0.02 worth, but I hope you'll forgive me.  <grin> I very seldom actually come out of the shadows and say anything, so when I -do- actually feel strongly enough to say something I do tend to go on a bit.
I suppose a summary of this whole opinionated mess would be this:  What I want to see in Dragon Age 3 is a well-crafted story where the decisions and events in-game connect and lead up to an ending that makes sense in relation to game lore, a good social sub-structure that lets the player character interact with the other characters in the game and have them relate to the PC differently based on the decisions and play style of the PC,  the ability to customize the avatar and visual aspects of the game to suit the personality and style of the person playing the game, and an overall feeling of continuity in "my" version of the universe -- let my decisions from previous games affect how the universe is shaped when beginning the game.  Finally, if you want my more ongoing devotion <grin>, give me the tools to help my own vision of the world evolve inside my machine.

Last, but probably most important of all -- Take your time and get it right.  I know there are those who would like to see it rushed out to the shelves just so they can get their hands on it, but I'm one of those who would rather get it later when the whole team is satisfied they did their best than play something that frustrates me no end because it's obvious part of the story was cut out or some of the programming doesn't quite work right because it was released just to "get it out there" as fast as possible.
I think I'll go back to hiding in my tent now.   Hmmm... on second thought, perhaps I'll roll over, shove that rotten Mabari off the foot of my bed, and go convince Alistair we need to go see what's really happening in the Tower.  Those rumours we heard about Templars and the Rite of Annulment have me really worried.  I hope Cullen's okay.  He seemed so sad when I had to leave the Tower with Duncan...

Hey there --

I have not been using the toolset for all that long, but I have been going great guns with it since I did start.  I -am- having one problem that's making me go BSC.  I simply cannot get my cutscene to trigger in the mod I am working on.  The cutscene previews okay in the toolset, so I'm pretty sure that's not the issue.  I have poured over the WIKI and CANNOT figure out the scripting sample that is supposed to fire a cutscene from a trigger, and evidently I am not doing something right in trying to trigger it from a dialogue choice.

Can anyone offer this poor, obsessed noob some helpful suggestions, pleeeeeeze??

Thank you all so much!!

Posté par PotentPotions sur 19 décembre 2012 - 07:05 dans BioWare Forum/BSN Help

Hello --

I am experiencing no end of frustration with the forums.  I installed Dragon Age: Origins on my notebook and I can't get it to run.  I was going to post system specs and ask for help in the PC Support topic, but the damned thing is telling me I'm  not authorized to post in that forum.  What the hell??!  I am a registered owner of Dragon Age: Origins UE for Xbox 360 AND PC, as well as DA2 and ALL THREE ME Games.  If I'm not qualified to ask a question in the forums, I'm not quite sure who should be...  I'm even a content developer.  Could someone take a look and see if they can figure out what the heck is wrong?

Thanks!!

Lispeth

BTW - In case anyone can assist, my notebook is an Intel CORE I3 with 4Gb RAM, Win7Ult SP1
Intel HD Graphics with 1.7Gb VRAM and DX11

The error I'm getting is "The game cannot launch due to a misconfiguration.  Please reinstall your game and try again."

I have installed clean, installed all of the official DLC and patched to version 1.05.  I also have the CC and the toolkit installed.  The game has given me this error right from the first.  It has NEVER run on this machine.
