I feel like people who call these forums toxic have never seen truly toxic communities. 8chan, Niche Gamer forums, Most MMO or MOBA forums, **** reddit says, Hell any steam game forum currently in controversy.

Your problem, not ours.

"I don't have a power fantasy that needs catering to"

How it is and how it looks are two completely different things. You still need that leash. Actually make that a shock collar.

Talking about power fantasies and shock collars.

You really belong on /cuteboys/

<3

The fact that this is a real place should surprise me but it doesn't.

-_- as an ocd person I prefer things neat and consolidated. One central place.

CENTRALIZATION

Also why I have socialist urges, I imagine.

I prefer the same. Come on bioware just leave it open. People have already pointed out loads of free ways to improve your boards.

And put your VSN replacement on a short, tight leash because he's embarrassing.

Okay, that's three!!! Wow

If there's a fourth one out there, reveal yourself

You guys need to consolidate like cable companies in springtime. C'mon! Get to it.

The best solution would be if this place stuck around and reopened offtopic. Then the other ones can just naturally fade away.

Amber Scott, who is now the single worst writer I have ever experienced, even worse than Mac Walters, somehow.

Ah yes that's her name.

He had a hand in the latest expansion for BG2 EE, Siege of Dragonspear. The one that breaks your old saves and forces you to start from the beginning of the entire game (among other bugs that were never fixed) and is made by developers who ban you form their Steam forums for reporting bugs, and retcons a returning party member's personality almost 180 degrees. This is not counting the unfunny GamerGate mentions that definitely won't date the game in any way, or the removal of roleplaying (literally, there's more than 1 conversation where you have 5 dialogue picks, but they all say the same thing), or the incoherent and idiotic political messages (like Mizhena, the character who's entire story is "I'm trans", in a world where gender is near-meaningless because you can switch gender by wearing a magic belt).

Basically, Beamdog is where writers, coders, bug-testers, game devs of all kind go to die.

David Gaider had no input is SoD I belive. It was entirely whats her name that left.

I forgot that Gaider left.

Ended up at Beamdog, huh?

What did he write and was it bad?

Nothing yet. Though based on Beamdogs last release it's all up from there.

Can someone ELI5 the origins and main differences between VSN and TSG? Thanks

VSN was created as basically a temporary ark for offtopic regulars though it's become more permanent. TSG was created because VSN's moderation was considered too strict by some after members were banned for rule breakages. It's a tad more complicated than that but you wanted the short version.

Long story short

VSN tighter moderation

TSG less moderation

No one has ever cared for nerds in the slightest, that much is clear. I mean, look at all the recent approaches in game publishing and the assorted cycles (journalists, for example). The current trend is "games don't have to be about nerdy people anymore, we want the hip, new audience, "gamers" don't matter, etc, etc".

"Gamers don't have to be your audience. Gamers are over."  :P

It would just be good at this point if the energy of TSG vs. VSN could dissipate somehow. I don't think it was ever JW's intention.

That's more Puddi's and Geth's thing. Most of Vsn never really mentions it. I was sure many members posted on both though i've never checked.

The thought of Cassandra having that many people's IP addresses alone is troubling.

While we're speaking in I'd rathers, I'd rather the split had never happened.

Ehhhh if I could go back in time and handle things better I would but foresight is 20/20 and all that.

This might actually be something TSG and VSN will agree about.

It's run by Cassandra Saturn. A confirmed psychotic who badly needs mental help. The people who go there are going to get fucked over eventually and I worry about them. I'd rather they go to TSG than there.

@BioWare --

I've read all the BioWare employee posts in this thread and a few important details weren't addressed by those posts or the original blog post:

1.How is this closure going to impact the DAO Toolset and wiki? These are both your products. The toolset is hosted on the BSN Project pages, and the wiki is also tied to the same URL. Where will this content be migrated to? I hope you aren't seriously thinking about pulling this content from your customers.

2. Where will all the Patches, DLC, and other downloads be hosted for old games? DAO, ME1, ME2, DA2? These are all things your customers still use when they migrate PCs. Not everyone has the old games on Origin and not everyone *wants* to migrate their old games to Origin. How will you be dealing with this?

That's not even mentioning how all the DLC isn't even on origin.

Aye, we hoped Off Topic would be back once Bioware realized how much worse the place got as a result of it being closed and instead this is what we get.

Utter nonsense.

You'd figure they would learn after the forums got worse because of it. Amusingly the reasons for shutting off topic entirely contradict the reasons for shutting the forums.

Finally, we have removed the Off-Topic boards. We want to keep the conversations on our boards focused on BioWare and our games. Since other communities do exist for such off-topic discussions, we feel it's important to foster conversations within our community that can't be found outside these boards.

I hope so but unlikely. Off topic people assumed that they would reopen Offtopic when they realised what a mess it made and then a year passed and this happened.

I know ...but do you guys really want elf debate , mage/templars flame war and weird DA lore theory over there?Oh and steamy companions threads?

Uhhhhhhhhhhh **** if we get too many migrants we may need to rebuild the entire forum to accommodate stuff like that. That's unlikely though. Most will probably just disperse.
