Agreed, but you can't really have two PCs at once.
Not at the same time, but certainly in the same title.
In any case, I think that with the Keep technology that will (hopefully) be only vastly improved when it comes time for DA4, people would be able to steer even an NPC to a better direction.

That would certainly imply that my supposition is accurate. I am perfectly willing to be proven wrong, however.
Reading the rest of the posts in this and the Feedback thread should illustrate that the real banter bug definitely isn’t just exhaustion. Not to mention the fact that even with CE you can barely get any banter in the Western Approach, for example.
The system is most certainly bugged (and poorly conceived to begin with).
Aside from that there may be, for some, a perception issue. But those are not the same thing.

From the looks of it, it was meant to be stretched out over long periods. The first two DA's spoiled us and we expected more in this one but there simply isn't more. It was sparse on purpose, from the get-go.
Again, no. There is a definite bug. People go with hours without a word.
Aside from that—but don’t conflate the two—it’s possible that many expect to hear more than is actually possible. With the total amount in, it would seem that by rotating the party somewhat, there is enough to hear something every 15 minutes on the outside.

No it can't how the hell devs can railroad character they create and they establish so thus can't railroad them because characters are under their control …
Railroading refers to any action that a player character or non-player character takes that is against their established personality, for the sake of moving the plot in a certain direction.
Not allowing Hawke to kill Sister Petrice right off the bat is railroading the player character. Making Varric betray Hawke is railroading the non-player character (or railroading the plot, if you prefer).

I've never tried the cheat engine but if I do try it, it will be so I can trigger banter a LOT more often than I hear it.
Is there anything special I need to do to make sure my computer stays safe, if I use the cheat engine? Some say it's adware, but is it really?
Download the standalone version, it’s fine. The autoinstaller I think allows you to leave out the ‘extra’ software, but I’ve never tried it.

You'd think a blood mage might not complain so much about blood magic. Failing that, he might have a slightly different attitude if he remembered Merill.
I complain about other people in my profession constantly, because a very large percentage of them consistently demonstrate complete and utter idiocy.
(In interest of fairness, I’m sure the reverse is true sometimes too.)

I’ve largely enjoyed lurking this thread because of Cass, but after seeing people’s beliefs crawling out from under the rocks, it’s troublesome even with ignore list at full force.

Seriously, just don't click agree and skip them. That's what I (and many others) did and I have a nice clean CE only install which gives me banter and so many other game saving options. They aren't trying to mess up your PC.
Well, they are. Otherwise they wouldn’t include them. They do offer a way to (probably) avoid them, though.

I agree that this is the best CC we had so far. But as good as it is, a better lighting and more hairstyles could still it improve it. Also, I like the OP's idea of adding numbers to the sliders. Personally, I don't want to recreated the character of someone else because I enjoy it far to much to make my own characters (yep, I spent over two - three hours with CC). But others might want that. It could also help if someone recreated a DAI character (Anders, Fenris, Isabella) and other players want a guide to do the same.
It also helps if I mess up just slightly with something, and want to try to fix it without having to guess at what all the other values were.

Bioware's forums existe for Bioware fans to discuss about Bioware games.
Bioware's is not the official media to diffuse Bioware news (sometimes it's tweeter, or E3, or other website etc).
Bioware people have no obligation to interact with people on their forums, and when they do it, it is out of courtesy.
Yeah, what could possibly have given people the idea that—Oh.

Did you even think about it for a moment before denigrating a non-native speaker for using a slightly incorrect but relatively common and understandable vernacular in a topic about language discrimination?
Just wow.
…
Language discrimination would be a better term. The language subforums are evidently even more neglected than this place is, but if it comforts the OP at all, Bioware doesn’t actually engage with the community here either. So they’re really just discriminating against people who have feedback or want to discuss the game in terms that don’t necessarily involve ‘OMG GOTY WOW’.

Also, their time in the forums is voluntary.
This is kind of a ludicrous thought. Try to imagine any other business with ‘voluntary’ customer service.
Somebody is reading, I’m sure, and probably gathering and forwarding some of the feedback for the developers… but without any acknowledgement. I don’t want individual developers prancing around the threads answering every little thing. Just a “this feedback has been noted” would probably be enough for most people.
Bioware is failing hard at PR right now. Have been for some time.
…
ETA: One thing I do think would be actually worthy of proper designer/developer response, maybe on a youtube video or whatever, would be the overarching direction toward simplified action over traditional RPG elements. Even if it’s just “we like it, too bad for you if you don’t”.

True, but the Warden's MAIN story IS over. He/she stopped the Blight and the Architect and Mother. That is his/her main story because that's the main thing he/she has accomplished.
Thats a completely arbitrary decision on your part.

The CC needs a toggle for non-cinematic view of the character with regular in-game lighting. And exportable/importable settings to recreate a look. They’re obviously already stored in the character file so it’s just a matter of encoding them.

I guess in this case we have effectively proven that there IS a bug, because my game seems to behave as it should, whereas yours doesn't.
Not that this helps any because we knew that before.
Did you try if any of the workarounds made a difference for you and got the timer to behave properly?
However I don't think that the system does make much of a difference because there are people with the "bug" on the consoles as well.
Precisely. I saw your reply on the previous page and was going to respond to that, but essentially we do have ample empirical evidence that it is not working in the same manner for everybody. Now we might have concrete evidence, too, which is good… but as a developer myself, it’s been obvious that there’s something more at work than mere perception or bad luck.
…And beyond that, it’s still a pretty bad mechanism.
…
Someone else commented in a similar vein that the devs and testers can’t find anything wrong because they just stand around, but I don’t think that’s the case. Many, if not most, players seem to have banter consistent enough that it does not bother them. Consensus seems to be that when things are working correctly, somebody says something about something every 10–15 minutes.
Everyone is playing this game in roughly the same manner: going through areas, fighting things, etc.

It seems like you’re converging on a consensus that this is somehow working ‘correctly’, but just poorly.
I agree that it is a fairly terrible implementation, as I feared, but you do have to account that people have had vastly different experiences playing the game. Some have noticed nothing off. Some report consistently getting banter about every 10 minutes while for others it’s closer to 10 hours while both make progress through the game. The play cannot be that different. You can’t not get into fights etc. The variance is too great, and too wide-spread to be merely bad luck.
One interesting thing to do might be to compare the triggering between 1.02 and 1.03 (which supposedly included a fix of some sort.)
All in all, likely the simplest improvement they could add at this point would indeed be altering the reset behavior to be a pause. I suggested that when we were speculating about the likely implementations way back in November, but it’s not like they’ve listened a whole lot…

Interesting take.
As far as the DA2 story elements are concerned, I’m somewhat amused to notice that your complaints are about things that are particularly gritty, or perhaps more accurately, realistic. There’s little more real than everything and everyone going to sh— despite your best intentions and efforts.
