#20410367 SAVE THE BIOWARE FORUMS

Posté par The Ascendant sur 29 juillet 2016 - 05:53 dans Story, Campaign, and Characters

All good things come to an end. Oh well.

#20409532 Andromeda at war (or at least, not very civil).

Posté par The Ascendant sur 29 juillet 2016 - 01:34 dans General Discussion

We are the invading/settling/colonizing force. Chances are that the natives will try and get rid of us and so we must respond appropriately.

#20409417 Empress Celene... vile traitor OR savior of Orlais?

Posté par The Ascendant sur 29 juillet 2016 - 11:23 dans Story, Campaign, and Characters

Why did Orlais invade Ferelden again? I've been rereading the Stolen Throne and it's never explicitly mentioned why they conquered the country. It's relatively poor in comparison to other nations, it is the birthplace of Andraste, but the Chantry is already established there and the two cultures differ too greatly for peaceful assimilation. So why did they want to conquer it again if the first time was more trouble than it was worth?

#20409356 The Tevinter Imperium support thread- "Tevinter is coming"

Posté par The Ascendant sur 29 juillet 2016 - 09:18 dans Story, Campaign, and Characters

What natural resources does Tevinter have that allows it to sustain itself being isolated from the rest of Thedas. The free labour from slavery is useful, but the rest of Thedas abolished the practice so the only ones who buy and sell them is Tevinter.

I am curious that Dorian was able to use Necromancy despite not being a Mortalitasi, then again considering that the practice began with a Tevinter it would be natural that the Tevinters have a variety of the school of magic. I wonder if they have any useful information on the older more powerful demons. I always imagined that there exists a hierarchy of Demon Lords and other powerful Fade entities that we just haven't encountered yet. The existence of Nightmare, a being so ancient who knows Solas' true identity and so powerful we can only fight a fragment of it before sacrificing a hero to escape it, have mollified my desires, but I hope we encounter more unique and personable demons and spirits in Tevinter. Every noble family could have a patron spirit like the Roman household gods that they venerate.

I wonder how Tevinter views demonic possession and demons in general? Natural predators that weed out the weak, useful minions to use in a bind, or general nuisances more than anything else?

#20408139 Arlathvhen: Bringing together those with elven hearts.

Posté par The Ascendant sur 28 juillet 2016 - 05:48 dans Story, Campaign, and Characters

The Arlthvhen, big clan gathering, that happens every ten years, was that ever touched upon or what? You would think that a Dalish PC would mention it to the other Dalish he/she encountered. I think the one in 9:40 was near Halamshiral.

#20407798 Solas Thread - The Blanketfort

Posté par The Ascendant sur 28 juillet 2016 - 01:04 dans Story, Campaign, and Characters

Does anyone know the significance of the wolf jaw Solas has as a necklace? Was it the remains of his old animal companion?

Did that Arlthvhen happen or was mentioned anywhere?

I think Celembrimbor was the last of Faenor's descendants, who was tricked by Sauron into making the Rings of Power, and then tortured to death when he refused to reveal the location of the three Elven Rings he made without Sauron's influence.

Here's an idea for an Origins for Elves in the next game. We play as an Elf who was in Uthenera for millennia and have to cope with the new world we find ourselves in. Kind of like Fallout 4, instead of 200 years make it 2000 years. If not our PC then a companion perhaps? Then again they did something similar with Solas and again with Javik... Maybe we just find one buried under Minrathous to serve as our source of information? I don't know, just a thought, probably unlikely but still just a thought.

#20406889 Could have Dark Elves ever existed?

I wouldn't mind playing one of those Tirashan Elves. They sound way more badass.

I also loved how Badass some of the Elves were in the story. Fingolfin had balls of steel to duel Morgoth himself at the height of his power and even managed to wound him a few times.

If anyone has read the Silmarillion then you know that some Elves can be even worse than any human.

I like that comparison that the Elves of the post Veil world are parallels to the Elves who didn't leave Middle Earth and as a result became weaker and more diminished until they had no other real choice but to leave.

If the Elves do get a break I doubt it will be in the best interests of the human race.

"How delightful. It might move me to tears. Love, hate, pain, pleasure, life and death. All of it here to enjoy, right before our very eyes! It is so human, and yet so demonic!"- Slan of the God Hand, Berserk.

Arielle, the elven lady we save in Sebastian's quest in Act 2 of Dragon Age 2. In Act 3 she sends us a letter that says:

To the Champion of Kirkwall:

You've done so much for so many people, so you probably don't remember me. But you saved my life. I've spent three years thinking about what that awful Lord Harimann might have done to me; surely the Maker sent you to shine His light on that madhouse. When I left and walked into the sun, it was like waking from a nightmare. I don't know how we endured it. That place was a spider's web, and we were the flies.

I didn't know where to go at first, but I ended up seeking shelter at the chantry in Starkhaven. I'm a sister now, and I take my vows next month! They've given me a chance to pay back the good fortune you gave me, and they've even taught me to read and write. Me! The daughter of a washer-woman!

With eternal gratitude,
Sister Arielle

Well I'll be damned. But I am going to be cynical and consider this an exception not the general rule.

When was the last time you ever saw an Elf priest or Templar? Be honest. The most you ever see of Elves related to the Chantry is in the Circle, and while a life in the Circle is no doubt better than one in the slums they don't exactly have a choice to be there.

I never really understood why would Elves become Andrastian. They have no place in the Chantry as an organisation, aside from being servants of course, and it doesn't seem to value them in any real way. Of course you have the odd one or two who genuinely believe in the Maker, Andraste and all that, but it seems to me that the ideas of the past have very little to do with the Chantry as an organisation.

As much as I love Game of Thrones can we refocus on Tevinter? I wonder if they have magical drugs there. Aque Lucidius would've been fun to trip on and Tevinter has been around for longer and is more magical.

I don't know.. I'm more worried about "Winter". She seems like the perfect person to help.

Despite hating some of the writing, I end up staying interested because I want to see all of it come to a head. Jon/Dany/Red Woman..

I'm not denying that she is a good character, it's just that I think her invasion of Westeros is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.
Suppose she does succeed. Then what? Will the Westerosi look kindly on a queen who invaded their land with foreign mercenaries, savage barbarians, reaving pirates and three monstrous dragons? Who would want to marry an infertile woman? Power is certainly attractive, and having consorts and mistresses seems inevitable, but when she dies with no clear heir what will happen? Another civil war.
And I haven't even started on her inevitable decline into insanity...

Daeneyres is an inbred infertile ticking time bomb who will destroy everything and everyone around her. When she dies, everything she worked towards will be forgotten and discarded.
