#20418393 A heads up....

Posté par Vigilance97 sur 31 juillet 2016 - 05:29 dans Custom Content and Community Expansion Pack

(Except KotOR, for some reason, which, my own occasional posts there concerning creating KotOR Modules in NWN notwithstanding, has been little for years but whining pitifully and/or angrily for a KotOR III.)

Nah, the KotOR forum is getting nuked as well. You're confusing it with SWTOR:

After great consideration, we are closing down the BioWare forums, effective August 26, 2016. The Star Wars: The Old Republic forums will continue to operate; however, our public boards for Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and legacy BioWare titles will no longer be available.

#20337154 Females in the ranks of the Grey wardens?

Posté par Vigilance97 sur 19 juin 2016 - 11:06 dans General Discussion (Spoilers)

I wonder what conclusion they actually came to after they thought the whole process through. Considering the fertility issues, the resistance of Grey Wardens to the taint and the effect of Warden blood on Darkspawn, generally, it seems hard for me to believe that turning a female Warden into a Broodmother would be just as easy or come out with the same result as it would with just any woman. Would it inherently create something like The Mother, and produce offspring like her's? Or would it even be possible? I wouldn't have been surprised if there either was a high rate of failure in attempting this, or it couldn't be done.

The Wardens believe it's possible:

"Isseya herself had decided long ago that she would become an abomination before she let the darkspawn carry her off to become a broodmother".

(Isseya is a Warden from Last Flight)

#20201652 Trouble replaying ME Trilogy

Posté par Vigilance97 sur 14 avril 2016 - 12:44 dans Feedback & Suggestions

I usually only play my canon Shepard. When I try to make a different one with different decisions, I lose interest rather quickly. It just feels wrong to me to play a different story, it feels fake. Maybe it's the same for you? Maybe if you played more or less the same way you did the first time, you would feel more passionate about it, since it's the "real" story for you, the way it actually happened. Or I could be completely wrong.

If you're looking for a game similar to Mass Effect to play for a while, the obvious choice is Dragon Age. It's also a Bioware game and it's basically Mass Effect in a medieval fantasy setting.

Also, welcome to the BSN!  :)

#20186977 Mass Effect: What to expect for newbie?

Posté par Vigilance97 sur 05 avril 2016 - 09:07 dans General Discussion

Yeah, Mass Effect is pretty much Dragon Age in space. Shepard can be male or female, but is always human.

Get the trilogy and if you can some of the DLC(Lair of the Shadow Broker and Arrival for ME2, Leviathan and Citadel for ME3 are the must-haves IMO).

Have fun!

#20129712 Can more people have long hair in Mass Effect?

Posté par Vigilance97 sur 07 mars 2016 - 11:31 dans General Discussion

An archetype implies "the typical mold" here.

When I hear "archetype", I think of fiction. Kind of like tvtropes. I was objecting to the idea that long hair always feels out of place for a soldier, no matter the context and what kind of story it is.

Now, the thing is, even in Mass Effect, the reason for shorter hair or shorter/shaved facial hair would basically be the same as what most military forces have now. See, the reasons that the US Military has regulations about hair are:

1) General cleanliness/health -- in a situation where there may be days of fighting, it promotes good health to encourage soldiers to shave when possible.

2) Safety -- gas masks (or, in Mass Effect, airtight helmets) do NOT fit well if there is hair in the way, because it prevents a good, tight seal. This is why the US Military forces male soldiers to shave.

3) Professionalism -- like it or not, most folks tend to view people as more professional when their hair is neat.

I highly doubt that even a futuristic Sci-Fi military force would change a ton in regards to my 3 points. You could argue that some flexibility might be in place in a futuristic setting, but practicality still would tend to result in shorter hair for soldiers. I would argue this applies to both male and female soldiers.

I'm aware of all of that, and you're right. We were just talking about different things, and I did a bad job of articulating what I meant. Sorry.

As for Andromeda, I still think long hair could work. It would be unrealistic, as you rightfully pointed out, but I don't think that necessarily has to be an issue. It wouldn't be more unrealistic than female squadmates not wearing armor after ME1.

Andromeda seems to have more of a space wild west kinda vibe going on than a military one(this could be completely wrong ofc). It wouldn't feel out of place, at least to me. Of course I'd prefer it if everything was super realistic all the time, but after the ending of ME3 I think that ship has sailed. So maybe it is time to embrace the rule of cool, at least a little bit.

I don't really want to get into the practicalities of it. It's a video game with space magic.

Basically, this.

#20129599 Can more people have long hair in Mass Effect?

Posté par Vigilance97 sur 07 mars 2016 - 10:29 dans General Discussion

I wasn't talking about regulations, though. I am aware that modern soldiers are not usually allowed to have long hair. Those regulations don't have to apply to ALL soldiers though, especially fictional space-soldiers from the future.

Big Boss proves that long hair fits the soldier archetype just fine.

Maybe since this isn't my native language, we have different understandings of what "archetype" means.

Powerless as he is, I'm sure that the prince-consort has plenty of spare time. Anora is more than happy to handle all royal duties.

A reasonable request, and it shouldn't be too late to put something like that in the game. Unfortunately I think the devs barely read this forum anymore(if at all).

If you want them to consider this(and I'm sure they would) it's probably best to tweet them or something.

#20088312 THE Morrigan Discussion and Research Thread *Infested with Bugs Yet Again!*

Posté par Vigilance97 sur 18 février 2016 - 08:26 dans Story, Campaign & Characters

My Warden does the DR because he doesn't want to die. It's a character flaw. He's a very brave man, not afraid of risking his life to save others, but when it came to willingly laying down his life to slay the Archdemon he was to much of a coward to do it. It's a sort of dramatic irony that he looked down on Jory for pussying out during the Joining only for him to do the same thing when called upon to make an even greater sacrifice.

He tells himself he only did it to eventually learn more about the Old Gods and the Blight, but that's not the true reason and he knows it.

The romance angle only really comes into play on a meta level: I like Morrigan and the Warden having that last night together and fighting the Archdemon side by side.

I let her drink. Makes the Flemeth scene more intense and Morrigan more integral to defeating Corypheus. And of course it gives her the dragon form, which makes her even more badass than she was before.
