Let me put it this way: she breaks more things than she "fixes" (and I am using "fixes" extremely loosely here). I would say that for every one thing that she might hypothetically "fix," she ends up creating ten new errors or more. That's really not how editing is supposed to work....

Gee, maybe one day I can get a manuscript entirely in italics...wait, I have. Okay, maybe I can one day get a manuscript typed up entirely in Bradley Hand ITC...wait, I've had a dumb author do that, too...fine, I guess there are no new lows that these self-publishing authors can sink to.

Anyway, I gave a time estimate of 12 hours and 30 minutes and stated that this author should just take a Word copy of the final print file back, insert the edits herself, and submit her edited manuscript for a reblock.

@Tony: Nope - anyway, I won't do it unless she agrees to do the edits herself and reblocks the title. Aside from being the sane and rational thing to do, she would save money. I mean, she can't possibly WANT to needlessly spend hundreds of dollars more on this thing.
