It may just be rose tinted glasses but I don't remember the fandom being so stupid and nitpicky before DAO and DA2, people are seriously getting on my nerves.

There wasn't a large fandom to speak of before DAO came out. Twitter wasn't as popular as it is now, and Tumblr wasn't a thing, and the forums weren't as active in 2007-2009. We were a small community (in the scheme of fandoms) based around the old old forums. But DA2 definitely had its nitpicks and issues, and that was in old BSN's prime when it was overwhelmingly toxic. I think in some ways it's better now.

Ah, those ones. I've seen plenty of posts around that are "Will BioWare let me RP a player/why is BioWare punishing me by not letting me play as a promiscuous person that makes companions engage in petty fights over me" too and wasn't sure.
