says this author has officially used WAY too many adverbs in his dialogue tags.

AtreiyaN7
Back to the excessive adverbs: the general rule is that your dialogue tags should mostly be completely invisible. It's fine to use adverbs occasionally for spice and all that, but you REALLY don't want to throw in a ridiculous number of adverbs on the same page. And this part is actual writing advice. :P

I hate all of my authors right now - the whole "mamam" error thing from yesterday's dummy author was bad enough!
avril 22 2016 11:33 -
SporkFu
I missed you going ballistic on authors, by the way ^_^
avril 22 2016 11:52 -

@spork: lol, thanks.

avril 21 2016 09:32

She kept spelling it as "mamam," which is completely wrong in French. :P

The SyFy show - I just watched the first episode AND read a review in which every single thing that bothered me was pretty much cited by the reviewer. If I watch episode #2, it will probably only be because it's kind of like watching a train wreck in slow motion.

says this author actually named one of the dragon characters Dragonith.
avril 15 2016 09:06

AtreiyaN7
Aside from my being annoyed at getting what appears to be a cross between Harry Potter and How to Train Your Dragon, I'm a tad annoyed by the lame name(s). Honestly, couldn't you come up with something better than Dragonith for your main dragon? :P
avril 15 2016 09:07 -

Dragona???

is raging over another author who STUPIDLY entered all his chapter titles as subheadings.
avril 13 2016 10:57
-
AtreiyaN7
The idiot actually entered exactly TWO items in the format of chapter titles (and he didn't even manage to use the same font size). Everything else LOOKED like a subheading.
avril 13 2016 10:58 -
AtreiyaN7
I had to place 37 or so images, so the time for me to find out that everything that looks like a subheading is actually a chapter title is NOT after I have completed the first proof and carefully placed all those images.
avril 13 2016 10:59 -
AtreiyaN7
It took THREE HOURS to sort this mess out, and it wasn't helped by him giving me incomplete edits and and incomplete TOC (not to mention the fact that one chapter title seems to be complete MIA from the revised TOC). God----ed MORONS, ALL OF THEM! *RAGE*I
avril 13 2016 10:59
AtreiyaN7
would now like to scream like a banshee at the author who had SIX-SEVEN MONTHS to fix her incredibly bad edits but failed to fix a single thing.
avril 09 2016 07:45

AtreiyaN7
How do EITHER of those god----ed sentences make any kind of sense whatsoever? You cannot read those two sentences and tell me that they make sense.
avril 09 2016 07:49 -
AtreiyaN7
Even with the vaguely stream-of-consciousness writing that she was using, this crap STILL makes no f---ing sense. And I already thought her f---ing book made no sense BEFORE her fail edits. You are a bad author, and frankly, you should feel bad for all the suffering that I have gone through (since I wasted a ton of time on the edits before I realized they were totally f---ed up the first time).
avril 09 2016 07:52 -
AtreiyaN7
Oh, I rejected this incompetent a$$hat's edits and said that I refuse to do them and that the ONLY two options here are: 1) the author takes her manuscript back and inserts her own craptacular, incomprehensible edits herself or 2) this author gets reassigned ASAP (because I am not putting up with her stupid s--- anymore)!
avril 09 2016 07:53

says the "froster mother" author strikes again - and yes, that's SUPPOSED to be "foster mother."
avril 07 2016 02:09
-
AtreiyaN7
@tony: lol, no - she's pretty clearly just ignorant/illiterate. I fixed the error, but she clearly intentionally tried to change "foster" to "froster." At this point, it's like, what do I have to do to make you learn this, author? I think I actually laid out the definitions of both words in one e-mail and sort of hoped that would be the end of it. I expressly told her to go search for "froster" and change it to "foster," because unfixed errors were defi...

At some point you have to give up. Ok, so Frosty has a froster mother. Sigh.

AtreiyaN7
And yes, I am kind of happy about it since it would have taken a while to format it and to insert the images. Anyhow, off to insert edits into a non-flaky, normal manuscript that's actually behaving itself in InDesign. :P
avril 01 2016 08:22 -
AtreiyaN7
I hope her manuscript doesn't have some weird virus - it seems unlikely, but you never know.
avril 01 2016 08:24 -

I was about to say 'Woo! Free weekend,' but I guess you have other edits to do as well, heh.

AtreiyaN7
@spork: Well, it's a light blue. You can still read the text, but it's annoying and distracting and definitely doesn't make it easier to read. :P
mars 29 2016 05:51 -
SporkFu
Gotcha. Yeah, you know, if I was a person who decided who got published and who didn't, a manuscript on blue, or any non-white shade, of paper would immediately go into the circular file.
mars 29 2016 05:55 -
AtreiyaN7
@spork: lol

And there was even a happy ending! I'm okay with that - why shouldn't Bruce Wayne be happy after all the crap he's put up with for Gotham!

Agreed, I liked Dark Knight Rises okay. Kinda feeling like I need to see it again.

Yeah I just crossed the last Harry Potter movie off my list, heh.

This is her third book, and somehow, I guess she hasn't learned to correct her work at all. I calculated that - potentially - she could have 2,295 errors (based on finding FIVE separate errors on a single page of her 459-page manuscript...).
mars 10 2016 10:16 -
Tonymac
Pffffft. Well, with people like her, you will always have a job. Job Security is a good thing

mars 07 2016 09:20

Tonymac
Sounds not fun.
mars 08 2016 11:04 -
AtreiyaN7
@Tony: It's not, but we just heard back from the author who - genius move here - apparently copied everything over from a PDF and plopped it into Word, which explains the incorrect hard returns and incorrect page breaks. However, moving things from the PDF doesn't explain the messed-up dialogue, the atrocious punctuation, the capitalization issues, the grammar issues, OR the author having all of her dialogue (for all 173 pages) incorrectly stuck together.
mars 08 2016 08:01 -
AtreiyaN7
She's going to try to fix things again (yeah, because that went so well last time). Whatever...as long as I get this thing back with properly separate dialogue and no incorrect page breaks/hard returns, then I don't care. I'm just totally going to avoid reading more of it than I already have. :P
