doesn't know whether or not she should laugh or cry over this: someone missed an important note, so the Endnotes Guy never should have been assigned to me in the first place.

Apparently, they knew that there were issues with the endnotes in the author's file and that there was some note floating around that stated that it was ONLY to be formatted in Word (definitely not InDesign - I am InDesign-exclusive, FYI). *siiiiiiiiiigh*

So the whole situation with me spending an excessive amount of time on bad endnotes, etc. was completely unavoidable. At least I don't have to manually renumber 789 endnotes and 789 endnote reference numbers now - the title got reassigned (thank God).

screams at this stupid author whose SINGLE edit has resulted in 1,578 separate edits (which I will NOT be doing).

I told the AR and my superior that this is NOT going to happen and that this is ultimately the author's fault because he CLEARLY didn't review the manuscript and approved the stupid motherf---ing thing as is. I also firmly believe that he didn't tell the person responsible for cleaning up his retarded manuscript about what he wanted numbering-wise (seriously).
janv. 25 2016 09:47 -
AtreiyaN7
I also said he'd better take a Word copy of the godd---ed proof back and fix this himself, because at the end of the day, he didn't review manuscript and created this whole horrible situation himself (plus, I'm already hugely pissed over having had to insert 789 tabs in the first proof - now I find out that there's this huge f---ing problem). S--- like this is why I am thinking about totally quitting and just rolling the dice on my own writing skills.

UPDATE TO ANGRY RANT: After some discussion with Leona, yes, his numbers are showing up correctly in the Word document. HOWEVER, the fact that it's not importing properly is STILL the author's fault. I get tons of manuscripts with footnotes and endnotes, and NONE of them flake out like this. That means that there is something inherently wrong with the original file, and that IS the author's fault.

says bah - had to give up on restoring my PS4 library from my backup drive. I have to download a couple of games again.

No fun. :(

@Tony: Nope, not really - on the plus side, my PS4 now seems a lot zippier with the new drive (7200 rpm, SSHD). And I'm all done with the downloading, thank goodness!

So, there's a bit of tinkering left to do. I'm copying my backup to a different drive so that I can format the backup drive again and THEN move the backup back to it.
janv. 21 2016 08:45 -
AtreiyaN7
Dammit - I just saw a note that says it has to be FAT or FAT32 (I could have sworn the bloody directions had exFAT listed as well). Okay, well, I should switch over to one of those and then move the backup file back and then restore later...I bet this whole thing sounds incredibly confusing. :P
janv. 21 2016 08:47 -
AtreiyaN7
And I just found out that you can't directly format a large drive in FAT/FAT32 in Win 8, so I had to go grab a utility. Bah! At least it worked, so hopefully after the lengthy transfer I'm doing, I can try to restore my PS4 again laterish.

Maybe when the book is eventually made into a movie *ahem* the author is dreaming of a musical number somewhere near the end, called... wait for it... "Mangham Style" :P

@spork: lol - good one!

I am determined to get my platinum trophy for The Last of Us if it kills me. I just need to survive the Hunter and Firefly storylines and make it to 12 weeks on each of them, I guess. I just passed the Week 6 crisis point on the Hunter side yesterday after deciding it was a good idea to go for reviving peeps instead of trying for a lot of downs or executions - lol.

Okay, crazy person, your dad was a cop and had to deal with drug users and/or drug dealers. I'm sure he did a great job and was a fine police officer, but YOU are just a crazy conservative wingnut and I sincerely hope that you aren't actually a cop like your dad. I also hope you give up writing non-fiction in the future, because you are clearly incapable of logical thought and are equally incapable of constructing strong arguments supported by actual evidence.
janv. 12 2016 02:33 -
AtreiyaN7
Oh, and judging by what I've been reading with increasing annoyance, every bad problem we have in America - including drug usage (!) - is basically the fault of the French and the French Revolution because their gosh-darned liberalism infected our society. Or something like that. *rolleyes*
janv. 12 2016 04:19 -

But hey, at least he goes back to actually talking about drug kingpins and whatnot in Chapter 5!

Agreed. Far too many words to make a point, and it just serves to make the reader lose interest in a hurry. Doesn't help when it's barely legible.

I believe he is saying it is his own POV-style hardcore biography.

loves how one of today's authors actually used the words "copy write" instead of "copyright." *sigh + headdesk*

I'm already fairly annoyed after requesting three paragraphs to replace some rejected edits from another author and instead ended up being handed several pages of replacement material - which I ended up spending 45 additional minutes on cleaning up and proofreading/editing.
janv. 07 2016 09:40 -
AtreiyaN7
If SHE had followed directions and provided the three requested paragraphs, it would have taken me like five minutes or less - and I could have blissfully ignored her ten million mistakes.
janv. 07 2016 09:43 -
AtreiyaN7
I'm finding to completely unfunny that it took 43 minutes to completely format Mr. Copy Write's short book of poetry and to insert all his images when it took 45 minutes to edit that other author's pages of text (the one I said was supposed to give me just three paragraphs to plop in...). *sigh*

AtreiyaN7
Yeah, like, whatever...please go away and leave me alone, because I can't stand your outright craziness. I'd rather have MORE manuscripts from paranoid-schizophrenic authors who are on their meds, because THEY are saner than YOU, Idiot Author #2.
janv. 04 2016 11:10 -
Puddi III
At least she didn't say 'wh***s of Babylon.' That would have been just rude.
janv. 05 2016 01:42 -
AtreiyaN7
@puddi: lol - good thing you can make me laugh about it. I currently want to punch Idiot Author #3 over the massive number of inaccuracies in her text and all the horrendous new errors that she caused with her bad edits. If only you could see what a giant clusterf--- her edit form is - ugh (and this is AFTER I rejected her edits once and said that she needed to enter the complete f---ing text in both boxes).

Although I agree with the Polygon review on it being rather messy, particularly with the multiple reveals, etc.
janv. 02 2016 08:29 -
AtreiyaN7
It's not that I personally minded all the twists, but I do think it was overdone to the point that it might start making other people roll their eyes over the repeated shifting between...hmm, spoilers - probably shouldn't be more specific. But per what I said prior to editing this, the sign-language sequence was so funny that I could forgive any flaws! :P

Gotta wonder how the author will describe the character in the next chapter, after some time has passed: "His companion looked a bit soggy and bloated. He thought about offering another glass of milk but decided against it."

@spork: lol!
