The gist of it is that I had Jasper out, off leash, and wasn't paying attention to him while I went about my business, because it was routine for us both. He vanished and I never found him. This was five weeks ago today.

Frankly, I think it's a shame, but that's only because I can't at all think of any one good reason for myself personally to stop eating meat.

lol. Thomas, don't worry. I don't figure anyone actually cares enough about my personal eating habits to disrespect me over it. Well. Unless you're my mother, but never mind that.
I can think of a number of reasons to stop eating meat, but it's a personal decision, and more than once I've seen people who HAVE to keep eating meat irrespective of their reasons for not wanting to do so.
FYI, my reasons are a combination of health and ethics. MOS...
