Ha. Some people on Facebook were discussing just why some Southerners are hellbent on insisting that the American Civil War was fought over every reason in the world *but* slavery...and one guy related this story about being in the state of Mississippi and declaring that Confederates were traitors. Not sure if this properly translates the depth of the risk of bodily harm he was taking, but it would be like someone in Norway declaring that Qisling was a hero.

I'm not sure expressing that kind of sentiment has the magnitude of effect that you're expecting, but I get your point. I don't know many details about the American Civil War, but based on the few that I do know, and what I know about the broader human history, I can make a few educated guesses.
