Take it as a learning experience. It took me a long, long time to even acknowledge the existence of white privilege. I still find myself having to check my thoughts, more often than I like. But the goal here IS simply recognition thereof and nothing more. People who are negatively affected by white privilege are NOT interested in our guilt, and possibly not even our apologies. Just our awareness. The willingness to engage in self-examination at all counts for a great deal.

Yeah, at least there aren't any verbally abusive drunks in Pokemon. And special shout-out to Seymour's mother, whose answer to discrimination was to force her child to martyr himself. Cid is okay, I think, though, and maybe Braska.
But it's not even just FFX. I see abusive/neglectful parents so often in JRPGs, not to mention full-on antagonist parents who are totally willing to kill their children just for being on the opposite side of whatever conflict.
