I think they both influence each other - remember, back in the day, when hauntings by demons affected places in Thedas? The example was a sloth demon making city residents not give an f if crime, poverty, suffering, etc., was all around them. That's the sort of feedback situation that gives control engineers heartburn, so TBH it makes the Veil tear less surprising to me. Thedas/Fade system went unstable or something.

"Harellan" is a new word on the Elven language page; I'm guessing from the latest book with all the elves in it. Hope they don't get too deep into it, because I'm already headcanoning the hell out of harellans and how they function in Dalish culture.
