The wish fulfillment stuff bothers me less for whatever reason. It's more how certain backstories are only worthy and interesting when handsome male characters have them. (See also: Velanna is a crazy bigoted witch, but Fenfen is totally justified in his anger and hatred.)

The ceremony went Really well. All of us were dead on with our parts and I received many many complements on how "absolutely perfect" it was. *smiles* I was just sad no one was there to videotape it. We'll all only have our memories. My brother and his wife did such an amazingly excellent job on their vows. They were very truly perfect, rawly filled with their love. It was beautiful. :')

I think it stems from "gated" being used in the sense of walling off and/or restricting certain areas. Anyhow, maybe one day an official answer to this question will come up on America's Secret Slang (on the H2 channel, Saturdays). Yep, there is a show devoted to exploring to origins of American slang terms (like the origins of "looking a gift horse in the mouth" and so forth).
