I was born as one, so thats an option if it already happened. If it didn't, marrying a Princess who would then ask one to be a Prince would work. If not that, coming into the position as chosen by peers works. Blood, Relation, Position. But a Prince is really less of a title and more of a responsibility to be a good person who does what he can for the sake of the people, so to be perfectly frank, anyone can theoretically "become" it simply by being wonderful and doing good things...

Another thing is, if you can't do something, find someone who can. So, if I'm incapable of helping someone in a particular set of circumstances or scenario, they still deserve the aid, and so I gotta know what to do in that situation. Again, all about being there for fellow humans.
