Crimea going to Russia, is on the short term, a loss. Howver, longterm, it sets a very interesting precedent. Imperialism via democracy. Why battle it out when you could just vote? I say the west should support their descision in the interest of the hope of supporting democracy.

Well, it's not exactly democracy when Russia invades a country and justifies it with completely false reasoning (like ethnic Russians being in danger - I mean, puh-leeeeeeze). I'm basically resigned to just rolling my eyes at the whole situation in the Ukraine. The fallout from this isn't going to be pretty for anyone (except maybe for Putin and his image in Russian eyes).

True enough. But the vast majority in Crimea voted to join Russia. Granted it was with a gun to their heads, but honestly the threat didn't seem to be join us or die, decide or we will for you. The distinction being, if Russia accepts responsibility for Crimea, they have to accept that this was a democratically obtained end. The rest of Ukraine has voted the other way. Ignoring that fact and invading will surely leave Putin in a much weaker position in the world, the region, and very like...
