I know we aren't friends (I'm checking All Updates) but I do believe you can now follow forums, which is actually quite a good thing. You may have to go to your profile settings and go to notifications. If you tick all the left hand boxes, you'll get notifications of things in the top right hand corner. It SHOULD be all the things that your friends do, but I'm still working it out.

I've actually tried to follow them but it won't add them, the only ones there are the ones I had subscribed to before the update:(
