Now I'm starting to want Bioware to just get rid of romances

I'm more inclined to wanting romances more tailored to be tied to the story in a sense - like in KOTOR. It depends on the story obviously, but I found that was one of their "better" romance arcs in any of their games (Bastila), but then I would want another character like Jack cause well, Jack. I really want them to have the balls to develop meaningful friendships outside of "pursing" romance.

The problem with KOTOR is that you can only really do something like that with one or two characters. I thought in DA2 you had pretty meaningful friendships, but the romances felt tacked on (well more than usual anyway).

Yep. Bastila was male Revan's only love interest and a focal character. They could do more with her. It's harder to weave multiple love interests into the story equally.
