I wish I could play Mass Effect without any vision problems. :/ Normal video is waaay too blurry for me and hdmi is making my screen go black every few seconds. restarting my computer & software does nothing to remedy this.

But it's practically brand new, I got it when I bought my recording equipment.
...it WAS $6, but that shouldn't have any effect on how well it works.

Checking the cable by changing it is the simplest thing to do , so you should do that first like David says.
Borrow one from another device in the house temporarily, preferably a better quality cable, and see if you still have problems.
Hopefully that'll fix it.
