Krogan: The Cute and Friendly Badasses of ME2

But I think they added more depth in ME2. Krogan, Turians, Asari, etc... their cultures are overall what you would expect from their characterization in ME1 but now we get to see that there are variations - just like humans - we're not all the same, thank goodness. Every race in Mass Effect has differences - no surprise really.

I never said I was complaining:lol:Heavensrun wrote...
I find it amusing and ironic that the OP is complaining about the Krogan stereotype being debunked, and that he is doing so by holding up a quote from the first game where Wrex sarcastically dismisses the Krogan stereotype.
I assembled a collection of videos on YouTube about ME2 Krogan and I wanted an informative discussion about it. Mass Effect 2 definitely made Krogan the focus of NPC characterization. Asari and Turians were put on the backburner, but it was for a good cause.
Krogan plush toys for all!

Do you think so?
I mean, yeah, Krogan are depicted as far more varied as we would have thought in ME1. And i agree on the Turians. They mostly stand around as guards and sometimes as bar tenders.
But Asari are shown in very different roles and characters. I especially like the evil genius ones like the captain in Miri's loyalty mission.
With Mordin and others we certainly get our view on the Salarians expanded.
Then there's the Batarians, the Drell and the Vorcha of course.
Volus and Elcor didn't get much facets added, or none at all if i think about it.
What i miss are the Hanar...

I've always thought Krogan are cute... those little squishified faces and smiley mouths. They're the snuggliest army of intergalactic louts ever. Making half the wildlife of Tuchanka equally cute is just icing on the cake; deadly as all hell, but you still want to cuddle them while they're chewing your limbs off.
That's why it's all so dangerous there - you're too busy awwwww-ing to draw your weapons!
They're on my Christmas list - cuddly Urz and cuddly Wrex. Take note, Bioware!

True, Asari did get a lot of different characters, but it felt like only few really stood out. Every Krogan I linked was very unique and memorable in his own way.SimonTheFrog wrote...

Or maybe there were too many Asari in the first game to make a difference.:innocent:

Since Krogan faces look very similar to another race from a specific game, this is probably the closest it'll get:Solomen wrote...

I like the new Krogan a lot more. It makes them more believable to have a personality more than KILL-DEATH-RAGE. It also makes sense for the Krogan to be multifaceted on their homeworld. Most of the ones delt with in ME1 were mercs, criminals, and thugs.
There ARE Krogan citizens. To think that members of a race are all identical in temperment is somewhat unrealistic.
I think Bioware wanted the Krogan to be a "bad guy" race, but with Wrex as a squad member and their awesome appearance, people liked them too much, so eventually they made the ugly ass Batarians and Vorcha and made them as despicable as possible.
Actually the Vorcha are kind of cute, like goblin cute.
EDIT: perhaps the extent of watching their people fade from a great powerful empire to near out of existence is making the Krogan more weary and, dare I say, compassionate.
Actually Batarians were around from the beginning, they are in the prequel novel.

Wrex's sarcasm said it best.
I thought that's something Ecael made up. Does Wrex actually say that?
He'll say it to Ashley and Garrus too.

This is one of the reasons why I loved ME2. Bioware went very deep into the cultures of other aliens, while they did't focus on the story as much as somepeople wanted, in my mind ME2 just expanded the ME universe and it did it very well. I love Urz ^ ^
Urz: Shepard.
Shepard: Urz.

I am staring with horror... is this thing real? Wait, no! I don't want to know...
Back to the original topic - no, and don't think they went too far. As a matter of fact, stereotyping of sentient species in sci-fi is beyond cliche, it's an unbearable story mechanic of presenting something foreign in an easy to swallow manner. Really, I would expect not only wild variations of character, but also of cultural values, religious practices and such between various Krogan tribes.
