If this is your initial trip, simply let the fat old drake rest until later. No need to fight it until you must. Then aquire gear and abilities needed to extinguish the flaming serpent for good, and return at a time of your desire.

I'm having problems with it as well, the only thing I can really recommend is that you return when you have leveled up much more. Thats how I'm going to do it. But if you are already at a high level say 15 or higher, maybe refine your strategy, avoid fire attacks, but do use frost weapons and have Morrigan use ice techniques. I found when my mage used cone of cold it was quite effective.

It's an easy fight if you take it slow, there are much more difficult overall fights later in the game.

Have you gotten the Force Field ability for your mage? Probably the most useful spell in the game. Either takes an enemy out of the fight for 60 seconds, or protects an ally for 60 seconds.

For the High Dragon, get your tank to beat on the dragon for 10-20 seconds, then pop a taunt and then have your mage force field your tank. Should be fine from then on.

An easy way to fight him is to equip everyone with ranged weapons. Stay out of meele range with your tank and use a fire resist potion. The dragon will only use his pathetic ranged attacks on you.

control your healer, have that character out of combat range and heal as needed, reviving those that need it, auto attack with the rest, a high level is definitely needed and the dragon will be a suit of armour in no time

It's how I did it, as well.  Plus just let Morrigan pummeled the damned thing with spells until dead.  Nasty wyrm!

I wanted to see if I could kill it with a level 13ish party (before the second class spec.) Main PC was a warrior. Went head-on with Zev and PC on melee and Leliana as the ranged fighter.

Was able to do it by just controlling Wynne and using fire resist pots. No deaths.

The way I beat it was by using Kolgrims horn and standing in that semi circular ruin thing on the very edgewhen it comes down it will (hopefully) get kinda stuck in the wall and make sure you put characters on it's side under it's wings DON'T put them behind or it will lash out with it's tails and hind legs this way It won't take flight and turn around either also make sure you activate modes so that your characters areinvulnerable to knockdown/stun

P.S I used Morrigan, alistair, me as DW rogue and shale I didn't use any skills against it not sure if it will take flight if you do good luck

I killed the archdemon flemeth and the high dragon all you need is the wardens dlc armor calins dlc armor juggernaut armor make sure all your charaters are armored up in effective full sets. Use wynne as a spirit healer and make sure to have inferno with 3-2 warriors and 1 mage if leliana has high cunning and song of courage it will help you deal damage then put leliana far away and use slayer arrow its over so fast for me the dragon cant really do anything.

Also when i mean i killed the archdemon i mean getting in close :P not the cheap ballista way. But the trick is to make sure all your Specialzations support each other. So if you want to take my advice make sure you got 1 champion ,1 bard, 1ranger for a third mele charater, 1 spirt healer. That should do u some good remember to make sure you customize your partys combat tatics too. Thats a easy mistake that can get  you killed if your team mates duno what to cast and when.

I dont't think the ballista attack is cheap. I mean I actually do more dmg hitting it directly.

However, it is very helpful when your party is full melee. Ballistas also cause a special animation which cuts down it breath dps during 2nd phase (where it is unreachable by melee).

Alright maybe not cheap but cheesy i dont feel like ive had an epic battle. i like the slow mo moments where you jump on the dragon to finish him off feels more rewarding then killing him from a great distance and then walking up to him as he falls dead.

I faced this dragon at lvl 12 w/ Shale Wynne and Morrigan. As long as the dragon stays focused on Shale its a breeze. Shale was equipped with fire crystal of course.

As a side note, I have noticed that a lot of people use Morrigan over Wynne. Just noticing. I happen to prefer Wynne.

Having played a healer in WOW for ages I found the High Dragon fight very easy when I took control for my healer vs my rogue Warden. I just ran her out of the range of the dragon did Regen, Heal, Group Heal, Lifeward, Mass Rejuv and then Spellbloom on myself. I had to chuge a lot of pots though and make sure the companion's tactics were set up decently.
