A tat used properly can enhance the look and feel of the character. I prefer a sublte look and a single tat if available. This can give an extra dimention when creating a background for the character. I.e Clan, Trials, Convict, and Destiniy are all possible background highlights to be added as a reason for a tat.

I would agree generally tats can be good for background reasons and general color but shouldn't be over used.

And for Dragon Age the Origin stories should be considered with relation to having or not having Tatoos. I wouldn't use one with a dwarf noble for example.

They do seem common among Dalish elves, and a city elf might have one in imitation, Common Dwarfs of course should have them though they start with a basic default tat anyway. Generally I avoid them with human nobles, and use if I think they suit for human mages.

I am not a big fan of facial tats but like other have said I have them on my Dwarf commoner and Dalish. I did however use them on one other character as I like to have a little story on characters I create. My mage has the one tat that is only on the one side of the face on the underside of the eye. A "permanent tear" of sorts

I wish there were more one sided ones or that we would have the choice to make them double-sided or one-sided. Some of them are too much, even with intesity all the way down.

Amusingly enough, I find my problem is the opposite. No matter how I crank that intesity slider, the color of the tat is barely visable.

I don't like them ... too big, symmetrical, too obvious (except for the fact, that on the portrait they are hardly visible, no matter which color and intensity way up.

I'd like some smaller ones, maybe "one-sided", not covering such a big part of the face.

I've used tattoos on quite many of my chars, but eh... I do agree with Taltherion; the tattoos available are too symmetric and simple.

Many of the Dalish tattoos are drawn with very thin lines, and the patterns are quite simple, which, while maybe fairly unique, looks dull.

The Dwarf's tats are much the same, except with super thick lines instead.

Just too plain and simple, most of them look nothing like anything I've ever seen on anyone, and that's including pics on the internet.

They should add some smaller picture tattoos and patterns that you can adjust about the face with up/down-left/right sliders. o_o

Not a fan of the tattoos either. I just find them more interesting without it.

I like the tattoos because they give new dimensions to the cheekbones, accenuate the forehead and cheeks - mainly because the Elves get no facehair, and without anything they look fairly bland.

My guy is the purist type, the same way a paladin would see things.

So no, tattoos are for the unpure, we should purge them all.

This reminds me of the girls who got some 50 stars tattooed on her face. I guess when she looked in a mirror she realized how goofy she looked, cause I think she tried to sue the artist. She said "I just wanted 3 small stars, and I fell asleep, and when I woke up..." She looks like a superhero... I laugh, but I kinda feel bad for her, too.

Like others have said... sometimes a tattoo is nice but only if it fits the character.

Most of my characters have tattoos. They make their faces look much more interesting, but they can certainly ruin them too. I'm not really a big fan of dwarven tattoos though.

You know... while I can understand not wanting half your face covered by a tattoo that was supposed to be something tiny and simple, that still looks kind of awesome.
