I was curious about the difference between creating a Stand Alone Module and an Add-In Module. I know how to create both, but I don't understand the functional differences between the two. What are the advantages/disadvantages of creating a Stand Alone Module vs. an Add-In Module. Example (assuming the bug with custom maps gets fixed) can you do your own custom map in an Add-In or only in a Stand Alone Module?

Extending the game via the "Single Player" module or using your own (in the drop down) is one thing I really don't get. Why choose one over the other?

it's quite simple do you want to extend a existing module or create a stand alone module.

making a stand alone module is easier because you don't need to think about making them work together but you will have todo all the work yourself. ie you can't piggyback on the main campaign and just add a few new features. you need to offer a fully playable module that the player can enjoy.

if you for example choose to extend the singleplayer campaign you must make sure your changes doesn't screwup the singleplayer module in unwanted ways and you need to hook the new content into the singleplayer campign somehow.

A lot of what is needed for a Stand Alone campaign is usable when doing a Single Player extension, since you don't want your extension to be incompatible with other extensions if at all possible. So basically you need to decide if you want to make it so that it is a new area or quest line that should be accessible from the official campaign or not.
