They were denied council status for their involvement in creating the Geth. Their species was viewed as irresponsible and ultimately primitive to the civil council races. Each race has to prove themselves worthy of being a council race, the Quarians squandered that by proving that they created one of the galaxies biggest problems.

What about the raloi? What did they do to earn their spot among the galactic community?  All they did was make a space telescope that spotted an asari warship.  Hardly what I'd call earning your place.  And Hindsight is 20/20.  Until this stuff with saren the geth weren't considered a threat.  They did nothing threatening besides maintain their borders.

Maybe I'm missing something, but what are the raloi? Never seen them mentioned before...

Thats why A.I. research is illegal.

Your conversation with Tlai in ME1 implies that the law was in place already. After the uprising the law was probably made even more strict.

My point was the implies part.  From what we know now there may or may not have been an actual law in place.  That was all I was saying.  My stigma point was supposed to address this but oh well.

Is the Cereberus News feed canonical? Or is it like some random dudes writing stuff while the real writers go on vacay?

Obviously for being incredibly advanced.

Seriously.  Man those guys sure are a threat, lets make friends before they attack and wipe us out.

I'm sure they deserve it, damned space birds.

What!! they're birds?!!! all the more reason to wipe them out, I don't trust anything whose head can be higher than mine.

That's terrible. I imagine that would make for some truly original and 'fun' DLC.

They told the heretics to stop shooting Quarians. Fat lot of good that did. 5% of the geth managed to literally to kick the crap out of the their creators after the rest achieved liberation.

What are you talking about? there were no heretics during the morning war, all geth were in agreement.

The geth who INVADE and kill anything not bolted down are heretics, who apparently comprise 5% of the total pop cap. The orthodox geth asked politely for the heretics to stop, they don't. Notice I say after liberation, ie after the MW.

5% of the geth managed to nuke anything that came near them until super spectre showed up.

I'm confused.  The heretics haven't ever attacked the quarians.  The council has never comunicated with the heretics.  What the hell are you talking about?!

Your liberal interpretation of the word "they" in a post that isn't a quote post is confusing. The context that has been established for this thread is they=council. If you were introducing a new line of discussion where they=heretics you should have used the noun instead of the pronoun.

Quarians aren't even in Citadel space. Why would they be on the council or have an embassy? The only quarians you see in Citadel space are ones that are on their pilgrimage.

We're talking about immediately following the Morning War, when they were kicked off the citadel by the council. That all happened about 327 years ago, when they were still in council space.

If you've played Tali's loyalty mission you know for a fact that A: heretic Geth have blown up Quarians on a regular basis (Tali's father wasn't going to Toys'R'Us for parts), B: as Legion states any Quarians shooting at ANY Geth will be on the receiving end of a pulse flavored butt whooping, Legion has no compunction shooting Alarei geth: Heretics.

The heretics no more targeted Quarians then they did any
other race. They exist for no other reason than to mess up someone’s day, be it
Humans, Quarians, Turians, etc. Heretics are by all counts of reason insane
since their beliefs have all biological life in the galaxy ending. Had Tali's
father been messing with true geth the outcome would have been much different.

I have played through both games a dozen times but I would like to
clarify something. The geth encountered on Haestrom were indeed heretics
correct? We do not pass the veil at any time in our missions in ME or ME 2
correct?

We definitely did not pass through the Perseus Veil and it does seem that the geth who were on Haestrom were heretics. It is on the edge of "geth space". The "true" geth are much further in.

Right on, I am pretty sure Legion stated that the Geth have "never" passed beyond the veil and that he was the only one. That means that all fighting has been with heretics and not the true Geth. I was just making sure that we did not pass through the veil, I would imagine that if/when we do the story will let us know. (Kinda like how we know that Turian councilman will "Dismiss" any claims we make in ME3 as well) =p

The Alliance did not create an AI in Revelation. They did however AI research in a top-secret facility on Sidon led by Dr. Qian in order to better understand the geth. But as Kahlee Sanders said, they where far from creating an AI. Most of it was theoretical data... I don't want to spoil the book too much but after the council found out about this, ambassador Goyle, Udina's predecessor, managed to downplay the originally intended repercussions to monetary sanctions.

I too hope that we can end the quarian/geth conflict in ME3, diplomatically if possible. The quarian's are dying slowly. Many of their ships already break faster than they can manage to repair. Captain Ysin'Mal vas Idenna says this in Ascension that if they do not manage to either find a new world or can get back to their own, their ships are beyond repair in 80 years...

In any case, the Council shunned the quarians for breaking a sacred law. Aside from that, they could actually have kept the geth on friendly term were they not such idiots, and showed the rest of the galaxy that AI does not necessarily have to be a bad thing.

They played a dangerous game, they knew the possible consequenses and they lost.

I'm pretty certain it was established pre-Morning War, as Tali has a quote in Mass Effect that goes somewhat like this: "We were skirting the bounds of the law but we were hardly doing anything illegal." Of course referring to the fact that they didn't just outright built true AI, but kept upgrading their collective VI until it eventually became an AI.

Ok, that may be true, but that doesn't dissuade from the fact that the alliance has an AI.  I guess I mixed up a Codex Entry and the book.  I must have assumed that the story in the book was when the Alliance made an AI.
EDIT: Thanks for the correction.

AI research was only banned after the Geth incursion, not before.

You all know why the council didn't help them take back their homeworld anyway...

Ah yes, "Geth". The race of self aware machines allegedly rebelling against you and purging your settlements. We have dismissed these claims.
