Okay, I have an Infiltrator that I've been working on to get to level 60, so that I can transfer to ME2.

Due to unlocked acheivement bonuses, I was able to get all the way to 52 or 53 on my first game. However, the second game only got me to level 59. At the very end, it turns out that I'm short something like 6000 xp for my 60th level.

Here's the rub: I was playing the game on Casual. Now, I figured that I would take reopen a save game a little bit before Ilos, turn up the difficulty level, and grab the little bit more needed that way, right? Wrong.

On running the same game (still on Casual), I head to the "Colony of the Dead" planet. I land, head to an area with enemies and shoot a few Creepers. I get 135 xp per kill. I then reload the save game, make sure that I flip the difficulty all the way up to "Hardcore" and I once more land and kill some Creepers. However, they are still only worth 135 xp each.

So here's the question: if you boost the gameplay difficulty, are you or are you not supposed to get an xp boost? If not, does this mean that I have to do an entire third game, just to get those last few thousand xp? What a waste!

Nope, working as designed. There is no XP bonus . (Though I believe you will still earn a bit more XP in some areas, as on some missions, like Eden Prime, there will be more/more advanced enemies.)

My suggestion: Enable cheat console, load up a save from your second playthrough close to the end of the game, open the console and type "GiveXP 7000", win again. There's your Level 60 character. :)
