LMAO.....

Being a cynic....I tend to take articles like this with a grain of salt.  This article happens to be written at a time of global recession and market downturn.  Everyone looks for reasons for low employment etc....in this case blaming internet piracy for part of the problem.  Also where did they come up with this arbitrary number of 1.2 million jobs lost over 5 years...these are projections based on a biased period of time given the economy.

In the case of music, a lot of artists support the downloading of music because it gets the word out there......especially new artists.  And many people end up buying the albums if they like it anyways....I know I do.  There is nothing worse than buying an album only to discover there is one good song and the rest are crap.  I do think that a lot of those against it are executives with the major labels.

And if calling it piracy makes me sexy....who am I to argue.Posted Image

Nope doesn't make you sexy..makes the pirates sexy according to this article.   I just thought it was an interesting view of things....I personally don't have any data other than my own ..which is..right is right and wrong is wrong.

Personally if I walk into a store, see something I like..I buy it.   I don't put it in my purse without paying and try to leave. :P

Thats how I see piracy.  Anyways...those that approve of these things will always do it...despite any repercussions or backlash to the people they are taking from.

Why pay for the milk when the cow is free...kind of attitude.   IF they do pay after having already played it...well I'll bet its a tiny minority of the ones that actually pirate ...that actually reach into their pockets and pay.

As for try before you buy games...all you have to do is go to Direct-to-Drive..they have betas you can participate in (FREE) and a "try before you buy" program..in other words free demos.    So,  I don't really see an excuse to pirate here.

Your point is valid.  I was really just joking with the sexy comment anyways.

I don't advocate piracy by the way but if I see something worth paying for I do buy it.  I have been known to download music and Canada is pretty lax in this department.  But I pretty much by the album if I like it.  Also now with itunes and what not it is easy to download this stuff cheap anyways.

Is it wrong...I would say yes......but is it going to be the reason a million people are out of a job?.....I find that doubtful.  Movie piracy happens all the time and they still make millions of dollars and the movie industry is not that hurt by it.  Studios still make movies and still need actors and cameramen etc....

Jobs that get lost are the ones that are not necessary anyways and likely would have been cut regarldess of pirates......YARR

Pirate: Avast!
Pirate: MP3s off the starboard bow!
Spin: stere clear of ye porn pop ups rollin in from tha east.
Pirate: I have mah trusty Opera browsa to help me fend em off.
Spin: encrypt the data holds, batton down thar security patches, argh thar be spyware abound.

Now I understand why they installed a "Don't ask, don't tell" policy in some places.

Truth be told I only adhere to 3 rules and prinicples. There are others I take up time to time when they can serve a purpose.

The only way to prevent piracy is to hit it at the source, not by laws and regulations. This is the internet, people.

The only way to stop it is better methods of copyright protection.

Pretty hard to hit it at the source, when there are potentially thousands if not more that do it :P

on top of what MerinTB said I'd like to respectfully add two things:

The Game industry can stop making Quake 2 over and over again before blaming poor sales on piracy.

The Movie industry can stop making Uwe Boll quality film before blaming poor sales on piracy.

This is just my opinion but I find it fits at least to the hollywood industry these days. Quality is down by 90%+ and ****ty cgi-explosions is up by 100% and they blame piracy when their turd on a 35mm roll is boxing 2 nickles and a gumball on opening weekend.

Aye. 'Tis the only way. Close the internet. :?
