Let's forget about playing as Shepard for a minute - if YOU were in the ME universe, who would you be? Be as descriptive or non-descriptive as you like, let's see what we get. Here's mine (can you tell I had insomnia last night, and nothing better to do?) Apologies if there's already a post exactly like this, you might have to point me in the right direction.

Name: Sarym 'Sam' Lliandri
Gender: Male
Age: Between 21 - 25 Earth years
Height: 6'1"
Hair colour/style: Mouse-brown / Unkempt
class: Tech. expert
Clothing: 3/4-sleeve jacket, blue-grey; undershirt, brown; slim-fitting trousers, deep blue; 'retro' sneakers, green

Background:
Essentially created in a test-tube by his parents (a geneticist and sociologist working with the Hanar government to help cure Drell genetic disorders) Sarym was designed to be the ultimate technological genius; his name means 'ingenious child' in an ancient Hanar dialect. As an infant, his father performed a procedure on him which involved injecting a compound containing an extremely rare, semi-organic metal named 'Follium' into Sarym's veins, which ultimately meant that a 'watered-down' form of this element began to grow naturally around his circulatory structure - a procedure which was not painful and does not hinder the flow of blood around his body, but did have various side effects, though nothing more severe than short-term vomiting and headaches. Follium's naturally-occuring iridescent quality means that the structure of veins on his left side visibly glows a faint cool blue. His father developed an earpiece which, when worn, projects a slight magnetic current through the Follium, causing it to glow bronze, and allowing Sarym to interface directly with almost all forms of technology - whether that be terminals, computers, the Extranet, and even some basic ships and AI's. As a result of this outwardly-visible feature, he was often shunned by his peers, and thus spent much time alone, often playing video games and conferring with the Extranet as a means of honing his interfacing skills.

Abilities:
Overload - damages shields and cybernetic enemies within a small radius
Neural Shock - damages organic enemies
Tech barrier - bolsters shields and protects from enemy weapon damage for a short time
Techie - higher levels reduce tech. cool-down time and increase damage, as well as health

Unique skills:

Surge
Sarym projects an extremely high-energy bronze-coloured particle beam from his left hand which ignores            shields, burning directly through to an enemy's health. Can be upgraded to deal high damage and last longer.

Assimilate
Sarym goes into a meditative state, transferring a portion of his consciousness into a nearby cybernetic              enemy. For a short duration he then has direct control over that enemy, allowing him to turn on foes and dispatch them from a distance. Once he loses control over said enemy, it instantly self-destructs, causing immense area-of-effect damage. Upgrades can result in a longer duration of control, or higher damage and blast-radius from self-destruct.

Party bonuses:
Doubles decryption time while hacking systems
    -5% party's tech skill cooldown
    +5% party's tech skill damage

Name: Mak Kurtis

Age: 21
- 25 years

Gender: Male
Hair: Black
Eyes: Grey
class: Element expert
Weapons: Sniper Rifles, Shotguns, Pistol

Abilities:

Incendiary Ammo
Cryo Ammo
Incinerate
Cryo Blast
Warp
Elementalist
-Each
level reduces recharge time of all abilities while increasing shields, can be evolved to
increase the AOE of the abilities slightly or to further reduce the
recharge time and increase damage.

Basically, he's two extremes. Hot and cold. Fire and ice. Shotguns and Sniper Rifles. He's not very good at anything in the middle, however. Mid range is severely lacking. In these cases, the allies must do the damage.

Hey guys, nice ideas! - Just realised that there's actually a thread practically the same as this one (but more popular it seems) located here. ^_^

Nah, it's different.

Create-a-squadmate is what you would like to have in your game.

While your thread is asking ppl to mary sue themselves into mass effect.

Somebody clarify to me exactly what a "Mary Sue" is... I thought it was specifically when you just put yourself directly into a story - particularly a fan fiction piece, but now I'm being told it is simply a character that gets too much positive attention/spotlights from the author...

Soo... what if I put myself in the Mass Effect universe, but I make myself utterly useless/unloveable and get myself killed off in a comically pitiful fashion? Is that still a mary sue, or does the universe implode? :P

a mary sue is basically someone in fiction who is extremely overpowered, has no weaknesses, is incredibly physically attractive and strong, all the hot girls/guys/shemales like and does everything right with no mistakes,

It is basically a sh.itty author, or a kid day dreaming about themselves being superpowered gods with power levels of over 9000, instead of making real characters with real flaws and stories

This seems like fun let's try this out.....

Name: Николай "Коля" Радаков
              Nikolai "Kolya" Radakov
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Age: 27 years old
Height: 182 cm
Weight: 90 kg
class: Technician
Weapon: Pistol

Background: Kolya worked as a robotics technician for the russian eezo mining interest, TVEL. He was just a normal employee who was in charge of the maintanence and operation of the mechs used in mining. Then word came down from management that the operation was shutting down and all the workers would be shipped off to TVEL headquarters in Novaya Tara on the planet Jarilo. Many of the employees knew that this effectively meant they were being terminated from their jobs and a worker's riot broke out. TVEL, called in their private security, mostly Blue Suns mercenaries who ruthlessly re-established order. In the chaos Kolya and a few of his friends stole a transport freighter filled with eezo and blasted off towards the Terminus systems. After selling off most of the refined eezo, Kolya had the ship's manifest and registration altered as well as giving it some "upgrades". He then turned to a life of smuggling, however his former employers didn't forget the billions of credits they had lost thanks to Kolya and his friends and he is constantly on the run from mercenaries and bounty hunters who seek him out. Unfortunately for Kolya, their contracts list him as being returned alive.

Abilities:
    Combat Drone
    Overload
    AI Hacking
    Tech Mastery

Bonus Power:
    Shield Boost

Oh also, if you have concerns that your character is a Mary Sue, here is the "official" (well you know internet official) Mary Sue Litmus Test for your character:

http://www.ponylandp...om/ms-test.html

My character to be fair scored a 29, which is apparently borderline. However the character is meant to be a proxy which isn't quite the same as a Mary Sue so I think it's all right.

Your Mary Sue Score: 15

11-20 points: The Non-Sue. Your character is a well-developed, balanced person, and is almost certainly not a Mary Sue. Congratulations!

Win.

Mine is borderline-Sue, which is fine by me. Some of the questions seem like they apply specifically to very stereotypically Anime-esque stories, it seems, and ME certainly ain't anime! Still, borderline-Sue still counts, right..?

Well Carpe, Mastice do you care to show us your characters so we showed you ours? Hmmm....

And yes bear_faced, that's kind of the point, most crappy fanfic writers are also heavy anime fans, and they want to create the uberist most awesomist character that (insert favorite anime character) would love to (hang out with/bone/fight). The test isn't meant to determine whether you have a good character, merely whether your character will be hated by all those who read it.

I wonder if they'll ever let you use custom tools to make anything of this sort in ME2 the way they have for DA:O
