If want to, you can activate your CD key at http://activate.ea.com/. This will allow you download and install the EA digital version which uses DRM, rather then a disc check. You will have to uninstall your disc version before you install the digital version.

Activating your Key with the EA DM doesn't just make your retail version run without the disc.  To avoid conflicts with the digital version you have to uninstall the original copy of DA you bought which runs with the disc and then install the digital version via the EA DM.  It doesn't work well to just install the digital version on top of the retail version.

The activate.ea.com website pretty well walks you through what you need to do to get the digital version.
