I'm currently doing the Circle quest and set Wynne to ranged healer but whenever I go into a fight she just goes into a combat position and does nothing.  I've logged out and reloaded the game but she still does nothing when group enters a fight.

Maybe you accidentally turned her tactics off. Go to Wynne's tactics screen and press triangle and see if that helps.
