If it is implemented in the form that's in AC2 and C&C4, then yes. But in reality, you'll still need internet connection for Cerberus Network's free DLC items. Most players will have internet connection, but it's the requirement of constant connection that makes it too much of a hassle, and for many, it is a matter of principle too. Why should legitimate players be penalized just to hinder the pirates?

We might not even get to pirate ME3. I could be wrong but Assassin's Creed 2 hasn't been cracked yet, has it? So it might just come down to buying it with the DRM or simply not playing it at all.

Yes, AC2 has been cracked. Amusingly you could download a cracked version before the release date. You might have trouble find the crack other then on some torrent as AC2 can be played without the disc; all the big sites that 'collect' cracks do this so that you can create a back up of your legally owned games.
Those sites already operate in a legal grey area, so if they also start providing cracks to games that "just" use an online activation they will look way to much like an illegal warez site.

Those two games has already been cracked and torrented all over the internet LOL!

You know when you're getting old when you remember no DRM of any kind.  First time I ever saw a CD Key request, I was, "What's a CD Key? Image IPB"

It's becoming more ridiculous with each year it seems.

Hopefully EA will stay the hell away from DRM with Bioware titles. I do not wish to give up on Bioware, only reason I'm still gaming. They slam DRM, forget it.

BTW...

EA proudly declared that C&C4 has "NO DRM" but clearly this is not the case. C&C4 will boot you if your connection drops, making it no less insidious than Assassin's Creed 2 and Silent Hunter 5.
Electronic Arts is trying to justify the DRM by saying the game updates
user statistics, but it's a poor excuse given that other games simply
wait until a player is back online to update stats.
Very poor form, EA. It seems every time that particular publisher
comes close to removing its old reputation as an evil entity, it takes
one step backwards into the dark ages. For shame.

Is THAT true? O.o
This is lawsuit material.

I still remember the days when the manual was the copy protection. One example would be that the NPC with plot-critical information would suddenly started speaking in some code and you had to use some cipher from the manual to understand it. Ah, the good old days.

Hmm ... I'm wary of having to use torrent to download cracked games. Anyway, on a related issue, has anyone noticed if the box for the PC version of AC2 and C&C4 warn potential buyers of the DRM used and the constant connection requirement? I know that many MMOs inform the consumer of the need for internet connection to play. But it seems that most consumers would not even be aware of the DRM used for the games before they buy.

Or a bloody paper wheel where you had to align it a certain way in order to answer the questions.

This is more of a PC specific problem.  There are DRM on consoles they just hide it.  This does not apply to disc based games however.

Oh ok so console users don't really get this problem except the Cerberus Network, which is still pretty damn stupid

I'd only buy if it's an Bioware game, the rest from EA generally suck.

Riiight.  Man!  I wouldn't have even remember that unless it was brought up.  Good old days, indeed.

Now all we need is some pipe smoke, fancy casual wear, a butler, and a British accent and then we can tell tales of past glory!  What do you say, old chap? Image IPB

They ****ed up the whole C&C series by releasing that last awful game. Also i have read that a group called Reloaded cracked the C&C4  entirely and people can play offline now. So in fact people who bought it are screwed and people who pirated it have a fully working offline version.

Also i will never buy a Ubisoft game in the future, they plan to add that DRM crap in every game they release now for the pc (including the new ghost recon game).

I wanted badly Assassin's Creed 2 to continue the story, i love story telling and this crusade/templars/assâssioune story really got me.
Still, i didn't buy this game because of the DRM, **** you Ubi, and i don't plan to buy it til it comes out stripped of this **** (neither did i download it, because i am loyal).
I don't mind DRMs provided they don't hinder my gaming experience and, being online + saving my game online IS an hindrance.
Heck it is not a MMO, still it forces me to play a way i don't want to.

I loved those things.  They usually made the wheel look kinda snazzy so it almost looked like it fit the gameworld .  All the old gold box games used them.  Ah the fun i had on my apple 2e.  Back in my day we had 22 disks to switch in the game....

I won't buy any single player game that forces me to be online when I play, doesn't matter what the game is or who makes it.

Thankfully I'm sticking to Bioware then. But if EA pulls this on me then oh well, bye bye gaming for me and my family, and everyone I know.

As long as Bioware's contract holds, I'm sure we have nothing to worry about folks.

Having to have an internet connection to play a single player game is why I didn't buy AC2 and CC4 last Thursday night. When I was looking for a new game to play single player(only real way I play) I saw the listing on the box and said, H@LL NO! I don't care what the reason is, if I have to have the connection to play then I just will not play new games. I will dig out my oldies and play until I am sick, then find something else to do.
