ME1 that runs on Vista! Why did I sell my XP machine? Whatever was I thinking?

Runs perfectly fine on mine...

Ah cool! What specs you got? Specifically, 32 or 64-bit? I missed ME1 somehow and I'm dying to see what it's like.

Far out! [I'm an old hippy] Almost the same as mine - except for the graphics - 2 GTS 8800s in SLI. I'm off to Amazon to get me a copy now.

Thanks for that!

"Epic Community Event"

If the countdown was on the forums page only, it might make sense - but to have it on the main Bioware site? Lame.

Bioware is a Game company - not a forums-hosting company.

Of course, if it's some sort of play on words, and actually IS a game-oriented announcement then I'll be one of the first to say they fooled me. But, as it is, I'm guessing it's some sort of "social" expansion to their games - which is worthless to me.

Sorry could not resist.

I think the event is a browser game.

That's my theory and I'm sticking with it. Posted Image

Bioware: "We're moving in with Ubisoft instead. Now, I know you have.. issues with Ubi, and that DRM thing, but we need you to be nice to them. For our sakes."

That's pretty terrifying actually.

Ubisoft: Eat your peas.
Me: YOU'RE NOT MY REAL DAD

I just don't get why Bioware needed to create all this anxiousness of a countdown for something with such a limited appeal. Not that many people are going to be impacted by this at all. You've got a very small percentage of the people that buy Bioware games that actually interact or are involved in any way in the community, and of that small percentage, how many give a flying crap about the community?

I like being able to chat with other people here that enjoy the games, and get information from the devs, but I don't need to be able to do that from my 360, or have 200 features added that I don't use, it's mostly fine the way it is now.

The work should be on the games and fixing issues there and bringing out hype worthy content there. Frankly if a game company makes a big countdown and builds up all this hype, and the announcement is not about a game, the only thing "EPIC" that it can be, is EPIC FAIL.

If time does have to go towards the community, I would much rather have the devs spend a little more community time actually responding to people's questions and giving us some usefull information(which they don't do much of these days) rather than putting in more crappy features or minor distractions to lure us away from the bigger issues.

LOL. I always thought that was down to where you come from. As a Brit I'm a hippy. Anyway, we digress. I'll let you young folks get on with your speculations about the countdown now. End Of The World, anyone?

I am 40 years old. Too young to be a hippie.
And in the famous words of your brethren: "Too old to rock and rool, and too young to die!" - which is of course not true, since I am in a band and rock and roll all the time.

40! *sobs quietly into mascara-smeared tissue* I'm 51! But I suppose I'm still in a band too and gigging on a weekly basis.Posted Image

BioWare didn't create anything, all they did was put a countdown on the page. The anxiety was created by fans expecting things like an expansion or an ME3 announcement. Then when it wasn't what they expected, they blame BioWare for building it up (which is what you're doing) when in fact it was the fans who built it up.

Maybe that's all it is...a countdown clock? They just wanted to see if they could create something that actually worked, as a stand-alone that wouldn't need patches to fix...

Let's be a little bit realistic though - they could have just chosen to put up an announcement with date, time and description of the event in the news & announcements section. This would have - in one fell swoop - taken away any need for guesswork on the part of the players.

But instead they chose to put a countdown timer on the site with a vague description underneath it (which iirc wasn't even added until a few days later), and when people start asking on the forums what it's for, Bioware act all mysterious and tight-lipped. All they've let go so far are a few snippets and we still know practically nothing.

If that's not at least a mild form of active hyping on Bioware's part then I don't know what is.

That said, I agree with you that it's pointless to blame Bioware for any disappointment, as Bioware may have contributed to create a hype, but they aren't responsible for players' personal expectations, and thus not responsible if said expectations aren't met.

Wot? Yer afraid of the costs fer yer dial up modem? If it helps vs. pirates I dont blame them. Better then some of the anti-pirate crap devs have used before.

I respectfully disagree.

It's impossible to make something 100% pirate-proof just like it's impossible to make something 100% idiotproof and developers shouldn't try to achieve the impossible - they'll waste more money and ****** off more customers than it gains them.

There's a certain amount of copyright protection that I'm willing to put up with - disc checks, one-time online activation, game registration to access patches, DLC, etc - but a continuous online connection, that's way beyond my idea of reasonable anti-piracy measures. The only games I'm willing to put up with such measures for are games that are actually played ONLINE. For any other game it's an instant non-buy for me.

The best of it all is that due to Ubisoft's crappy implementation of this new constant-online DRM system, you'll get kicked out of the game at the merest hiccup in your internet connection and be forced to restart from the last save point. Apparently it was too much effort to take a few notes from online game developers on how to handle connection instability...

I agree with everything you say :) in fact, I find that the protections system (cd check and online registration for additional content) in Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2 suits me best.

Being that this countdown clock is on the dragon age site and well as ME2 kinda hints thats it's not ME specific. Theres whispers around town about it possibly being the beta starting for Star War: The Old Republic.

I dont know some of the pirates are calling ubis new DRM uncrackable after Ubi patched up their one loop hole no ones cracked it so they may have found a 100% answer to pirates

I'm kinda disappointed by the whole "Community event" thing. was hoping for a game related update of sorts.
