So, upon finishing the sacred ashes and reviving Arl Eamon, imagine my surprise when Jowan was brought out, alive and well, before Eamon to have him sent off to the circle.....
WTF? Anyone else run into this? is this a bug, or is there some way for the game to register Jowan as very much dead?

I came upon an interesting bug/glitch in my mage playthrough. After the Connor issue was resolved, my mage took it upon herself to execute Jowan herself, to at least give him a quick, clean death.

It's a very interesting bug - when my mage executed him, he stayed dead. A pity the game won't let your mage tell Greagoir where Jowan is.

I shall have to replay the game to make sure the bugger stays nice and cold.
If not, than it really is a shame you can't recruit him. Looks like he learned some things about blood magic Uldred would envy.

Was this with the Xbox 360 version or PC? On my Xbox, I had that happen to me each time I chose to personally execute him with my mage. I bought the PC version recently so I have yet to see if that happens for me in it or not.

PC version. You experienced it to? Probably a game bug, I think. Weird. I'm in another mage playthrough right now, just executed Jowan, but haven't gone on to retrieve the sacred ashes. When I heal Eamon, I'll let you know if it happens this playthrough. I'm playing on a new install with only my favorite and common used/proven mods. Though if it happened on a console, that wouldn't be mod induced anyway.

I just revived Arl Eamon, and the supposedly dead Jowan was brought up from the dungeon. I don't use any mods either. Ah, well.
EDIT: Just recently, I picked a different dialogue choice when I executed Jowan; instead of picking "I'm sorry [kills him]" I picked, "I hereby execute you for your crimes." I just revived Arl Eamon and Jowan stayed dead.
