for me is goes a little something like this...

1. ME2 - the most addictive, complete, and all round enjoyable game I have played to date.
2. Forza 3 - Slick.  Car Porn.  Including my fav make Porsche gives this franchinse something GT has never had.
3. ME1 - A revelation in gaming for me.  Great storytelling, but room for improvment overall.
4. Fallout 3 - This could easily be in spot 3.  A great world. Second to none DLC.  Unimpressive ending.
5. Shadow of the Colossus - A truly unique game. Awe inspiring.  A must for any serious gamer.
6. GT4 - This game sold me on console gaming, the joy of a steering wheel, and I have never looked back.
7. Baulder's Gate SOA - classic in so many ways.
8. UFO: Enemy Unknown/Terror from the Deep - The most tactical fun I have ever had in a game.
9. Space Quest 3 - I still remember trying to get off that junk freighter.
10. Red Baron - an early player in the FPS genre in some ways.

Of note: the older games on my list (pre 2000) just can not compete with modern games of our time, but they are on my list simply because they were landmark games for me, even if I could probably never play them again).  I am too much of a graphics **** now.

Red Baron? The PC or Arcade game?

Also is this thread just a list or should we make comparisons?

EDIT:  I SEE ENEMY UNKNOWN :o:O:O:O:O:O

I can never pick my top games as they are all great in some way. In no particular order: ME, ME2, Fallout 3, TES V: Oblivion, Assassin's Creed 2.

PC baby!  I loved that game... especially when I got to join the "black flight", paint my plane, and shoot down the Red Baron himself.

list, comparo, or just complain about what we don't like in ME2 (which people seem to do no matter what you ask).

Until I started playing BioWare games, I used to skip any single-player in every game that Blizzard or Valve made (and their games were the only ones I liked).

I've played all the popular mods for Half-Life 1 and 2, but I still never got around to playing the single player.

I am your opposite then.  I prefer to play single player on my own time.  I find online annoying as it is generally people who are way more involved than me, and cheaters/glitchers.  PLaying with friends can be fun however.  My bro and I had a good time in MW2.

Well for this decade, ME2 is at number 3 for me (2. MGS3, 1. KOTOR1), with ME1 being somewhere around number 10

However there's too many great games from the 90s (mostly adventure games) that I really don't want to compare to ME2 (MGS1 is my favorite game ever)

Though ME2 is definitely somewhere in my top 10 favorite games

I feel I must contribute to this thread, so here is my top ten list of the best games I've played through all time.
  • Half-Life 2 (including Episodes)
(The character Alyx Vance is the main reason this made no. 1)
  • Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn
(This doesn't even need an explanation)
  • Dark Messiah - Might and Magic
(The character Xana and her role in the game was the light in the darkness for me in this game, I have never experienced something quite like it before or since.)
  • Mass Effect
(I distinctly remember sitting in a dark room at 11PM watching the final cutscene for this game and as the credits roll and as M4 part II by Faunts start playing, I close my eyes, savoring the moment, thinking to myself, holy **** **** this game was amazing!)
  • The Darkness
(there were a few really emotionally strong scenes in this game. Very, very well written overall.)
  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
(a classic, the characters in this game are genuine and well written, as is the plot. and it has one of the most memorable plot-twists of any game in recent time)
  • Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
(this game is an odd one, when first released, it was thoroughly broken with several game-breaking bugs, but was still a really good game and after some unofficial patches, it became one of the best games I have ever had the pleasure of playing)
  • Mass Effect 2
(Didn't quite live up to it's predecessor, but was still a very good game that certainly had it's moments)
  • The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay
(this is mainly here because I'm a huge Riddick fan, and the is about the only really good game that's based on a movie license.)
  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II - The Sith Lords
(Not as good as the first game in the series, but it still had several redeeming qualities and several memorable characters)

Honorable Mentions that didn't make the list: Portal and Dragon Age: Origins
This list is mostly based on the emotional impact these games had on me.
As you can see, Mass Effect 2 didn't do so well as I had hoped.

Well. *Puts on a tophat and monocles

I have a sordid affair with videogames. Played way too many. There are ones that I like more than the others however.

It all started with four games really. Sim City, Castlevania 4, MLB Featuring Ken Griffey JR. and Final Fantasy 2 (4).

None of those I would hold up that highly today but those four have high influence over me later on.

Specifically other than both ME games I hold in high regard are The Sims, Sim City 2000, Planescape:Torment, Morrowind, Resident Evil 4, Half-Life 1 & 2 (also the mods Counter Strike & Natural Selection), Ocarina of Time, Metroid Prime, Eternal Darkness,Starcraft, Deus Ex, MGS3, FFX and Chrono Trigger.

*rambles on incoherently in comparisons

Also I forgot about Doom :P

Well, if I'm comparing ME2 to my all-time favourites it would be somewhat far down on the list, but that's only because there are some really great games out there (limiting it to RPGs to make the comparisons more meaningful):

1) Star Control II (not a full-blown RPG, but had enough role-playing elements in it)

2) Planescape: Torment

3) Ultima VII

4) Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn + Throne of Bhaal expansion

5) Fallout

6) Neverwinter Nights 2 + Mask of the Betrayer expansion

7) Knights of the Old Republic

8) Mass Effect/ Mass Effect 2

9) Dragon Age: Origins

10) Wizardry 8

Of course, if we were to limit it to the more recent games, Mass Effect 2 would be much higher up on the list. Definitely a great game, no doubt

Image IPBThis is great, thanks for the laugh!  In all honesty, when compared to ME1 & ME2, all other games are nothing more than a way to pass the time until ME3.

1. ME1
1. Deus Ex
1. KotOR
2. Half-Life 2
2. GTA series
2. Dragon Age: Origins
3. ME2
3. UFO: EU (for nostalgia, it's actually too clunky to compete for much playtime anymore)
3. Civlilization 4
3. Sim City 4
3. Neverwinter Nights

Probably forgetting something... like Alpha Centari, Silent Storm or Age of Wonders. Loved the original M&M games too.

I ain't gonna go so far as to say ME2 is my favorite game ever, as there ain't nothing under the sun that's ever gonna beat Tetris.

But "Best Game Since Fallout 3?" Now you're talking.

Well, Blizzard and Valve are much more strict with cheaters in their games (at least, in comparison to other companies). Plus, everything they make is almost guaranteed to be addictive, multiplayer or not.

Mass Effect 2 isn't in my top ten list, I love the game and I won't sell it but.. It just doesn't have the same feel as the first one for me, I've beaten the first one 18 times and only completed the second one 4 times.. and I can't think of doing it anymore.

Now there's a name you don't hear often enough these days. Great story, genuinely original fantasy world, and some terrific characters (Franklin Payne was probably my favourite). If it wasn't for the terrible combat system and the absolute mountain of bugs, it would've definitely made my top ten.
