I think very few (if any) games surpasses the feeling I had the first time I played "The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind". It was my first RPG-based game, and one of the few games where I switched on the PC EXCLUSIVELY to play it (at least for two weeks or so).

The next TES game (Oblivion) was good, but not as much as Morrowind. Too mundane world and simple gameplay. Then after completing ME1/2, I read some good reviews of Dragon Age, and decided that it would be my first *true* RPG. In truth, I bought the game without seeing it first, and my first thought was that I was wasting my money (nearly 90 euros, Awakening included), but hundreds of hours of gaming, and a lvl 33 (very soon 34) char proved me wrong ^^. So my list is:

1) Morrowind.
2) Mass Effect
3) Dragon Age: Origins/Awakening.
4) Mass Effect 2
5) Oblivion

...more or less. I imagine first impressions always count x2 (that's for Morrowind and ME1).

My favorite games are Half Life 2, X-Com: UFO Defense and ME2. That list spans 20 years and there are only three games on it, ME2 really impressed me.

Splinter Cell series excluding Double Agent though I acknowledge the story, the game was rubbish.

Resident Evil 4

Morrowind (for a western RPG, anything Bethesda did after sucked, well Oblivion did).

Tales of Vesperia

Final Fantasy X

Halo series (yep that includes ODTS, I am the only person in the known universe who liked the expansion.)

Silent Hill 2

Mass Effect

Fatal Frame

KOTOR

No order though Resident Evil 4 and Splinter Cell are what got me started. My brothers should have never have said I couldn't play them...They still regret it.

Wow, ME2 didnt even make my top 10, and these are only the games I played in the last 6 months. Out of all time, it wouldnt make it above 30.

Halo....lololol

My top ten in no particular order.

Mass Effect
Mass Effect 2
Kotor
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Modern Warfare 1 & 2(I only play multiplayer usually, so i count them as half, respectably.)
Star Wars: Empire at War
Civilization III
Civilization IV
Fallout 3
TES IV: Oblivion

1. VTM: Bloodlines/Kotor

2. Gothic

3. Jade Empire

4. Fallout3

5. Bioshock

6. Blood Omen 2(probably wouldn't like it as much now but nostalgia is a great thing)

7. Jedi Knight(same as above)

8. ME

9. R6: ravenshield

10. Diablo 2

ME 2 is fun but I think it's too similar (not a bad thing) to ME to get a spot in top 10. ME comes out over it because it was new universe and a fresh experience. Hard to place newer games because I haven't had as much time to enjoy them, DAO will probably knock something out in time.

1. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - This title perfects the Zelda formula, expanding upon everything that made Ocarina of Time so terrific. On top of that, Link's sidekick, Midna, is - by far - my absolute favorite video game character. It remains not only the one game that I've had the most fun playing, but also one of the very few that've managed to bring me to tears.

2. Banjo-Kazooie - A 3D platformer in the vein of Super Mario 64, but with a quirky, self-aware personality to it that makes the game feel all its own.

3. Halo 3 - An exhilarating conclusion to an [cliche]epic[/cliche] game trilogy, with the longest lasting appeal of any multiplayer component I've experienced.

4. Conker's Bad Fur Day - Simply put, it's one of the funniest pieces of entertainment that I've ever had the privilege of experiencing.

5. BioShock - Delivers an extremely convincing world, with the most engaging narrative of any other FPS. Oh, and that combat itself is pretty damn excellent, too.

6. Star Fox 64 - A classic rail shooter with some of the most memorable lines of dialogue in any video game.

7. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - An epic, open-world adventure with a surprisingly considerable amount of emotional depth, as well as what is possibly my favorite video game soundtrack.

8. Mass Effect 2 - A title that trumps its predecessor in virtually every way, with an almost Gears of War-esque style of combat, an enhanced moral-choice system, and some incredibly endearing characters. Mass Effect 2 is not only the most cinematic video game that I've ever played, but is also - in my opinion - the perfect sequel.

9. Diddy Kong Racing - Combining adventure aspects with racing, Diddy Kong Racing is unlike any other title of its genre. On top of that, the game has one kickass soundtrack.

10. Star Fox Adventures (tentatively) - While hardly a true Star Fox game (and, in fact, wasn't originally developed as such), this game is a blast to play, and an excellent companion to the Zelda series.

1) Freespace 2

Great, great game. Still going strong ~eleven years after it's release. Seriously, is there anything better than seeing two massive space ships slicing each other in half with gigantic beam cannons? (Immah chargin' mah lazer!)

2) Max Payne

The story, the action, THE BULLET-TIME. My favorite shooter game. So many awesome one-liners. Too bad the movie was absolutely HORRIBLE.

3) Command & Conquer: Red Alert & Tiberian Sun

Can't decide which one is better, Red Alert or Tiberian Sun. These games introduced me to Real Time Strategy. Lots of good memories from these two games. Still have a copy of Tiberian Sun lying around somewhere...

4) Mass Effect

My opinion: ME1 and ME2 were both just as good. ME2 had better characters and combat, ME1 had a better overall story. Yes, there are flaws in both games and neither one is perfect, but they sure are better than most of the more recent games. Just my opinion though...

5) Tekken 3

A blast from the past. My favorite game ~10-11 years ago. Heihachi was so damn frustrating though... Still play it from time to time when there's nothing else to do.

Fun fact: To this day, I have NOT been able to unlock all the characters.. I'm missing ONE.

6) Crash Team Racing :D

Lots of good memories from this one. Used to play it all the time as a kid. Beat my dad at it quite a few times too :D All the other Crash Bandicoot games are really good too, but this one is my favorite.

Funny how most of the games on my list are ~10 years old or even older.

I didn't list all of my favorites, because I thought it would be better if I just mentioned one shooter, one rpg etc.

The opening scene reminded me of Starfox 64

Joker: Brace for evasive maneuvers!

Shepard: Do a barrel roll!

Joker: We're going down!

Shepard: You missed a gold ring!

1. ME2

I'm really hyped for it right now, might go down a couple of seats in a few months.

2. God of War

It didn't even last 10 hours, but those 10 hours were the most awesome 10 hours in a video game. PERIOD!

3. KotOR

My introduction to Bioware, I will never forget it. The universe, atmosphere, feel, moral choises. It was more than enough to make up for the incredibly poor prequel trilogy that was running at that time.

4. ME

Really Good. Introduced me to the goodness that is the Mass Effect universe, but in between the awesome universe there were some really tedious missions. Only a handful of really well-done and long campaign missions and incredibly boring side quests, that is what makes it inferior to the sequel.

5. GTA: Vice City

Best atmosphere in a game to date, the pastel colours, the music, the hawaii shirt. The fact that the story was ripping off several awesome movies, most notable Scarface, just made it even better. The story was not award material. But it was awesome. I never get bored of this game.

6. MGS3

Damn you Kojima and your emotionally engaging games. MGS3 was the peak for me.

7. Fallout 3

It suffered many of the faults that kept Oblivion far from this list. But Fallout 3 had the atmosphere, the artistic style and the timeless 40's music. Spiced with a lot of awesome moral choices and in general a better story. It was just really, really great.

8. Ocarina of Time

I played this a lot with a childhood friend, when I was about 9, I picked it up again many years later. Describing the game is hard. It's just pure love.

9. Dragon Age: Orgins

I had not expected the awesomeness that was DA when I bought it. I only bought it because it was made by Bioware and I was waiting for ME2. The trailers had been horrible. But I couldn't stop playing the game, in a month I had played it for almost 100 hours. Pure awesome.

10. Rome: Total War

Best war simulator ever. Civ-series ain't got nothing on total war and rome is the best one of the bunch.

11. Red Alert 2

Pure nostagia. I loved this game.

12: Final Fantasy VII

Same. Pure nostalgia. The story and the characters... Well, they were great.

13: Portal

No cutscenes, all gameplay. But the story is one of the most entertaining ones I've played through.

14: GoWII

It was GoW a bit prettier and a bit longer. Awesome, but just more of the same.

15: Evil Genius

You can be a James Bond villain, with all the cheesiness of same. Awesome!
